  1. Whenever I get a knackered bolt that will just not come out I always use a chisel and a hammer. Put the chisel at as much of a tangent to the bolt head as you can and hammer it round anti clockwise. This usually gets the most solid of bolts out. Jay
  2. Sounds pretty much the same! :) I will do a vid when I can. Damn right Ben I have loads to sort out, you think you are getting somewhere then you start to work out exactly what needs doing. Focusing on making the central locking work with the MK4 alarm today. Jay
  3. Cheers guys. I just hope its all done for ED38. I am still not happy with the brakes. They work, but are very poor with way too much movement in the pedal. All I did was keep bleeding them and then drove the car a bit. I am going to bleed them again soon, but for now they will do for testing! Jay
  4. Well I finally took the car for a quick spin today!!! The brakes are working, but are still far from perfect. The engine was limited to 5000 RPM, but my god is it quick! Its the delivery of the power from right down the bottom that makes it. I think I am going to enjoy this car! After my little blast I decided to try and get VAG-COM working fully and finally managed it. I checked for Fault Codes and there were a few on the engine, which make sense as I ran it a few times with stuff not connected etc.. So I cleared them all and did another scan. 0 Fault codes!! WOOHOO!! The Engine management warning light went out and it will now rev over 5 grand, so once I have set the tracking tomorrow I will go for another blast!! It sounds absolutely gorgeous, but the best bit is when I am driving gently I can hardly hear it running, with no sound proofing, carpets or dash in the car!! Getting excited now. Lots to do but progress is good. I am confident it will be at Edition 38 in pretty completed form. Jay
  5. erm.... sort of. Actually No. They work but the pedal sinks a bit too much first. They actually really stop the car well when pushed right down, but something is definately wrong. I am going to keep bleeding it and see if things improve, if not I will start removing things and changing them. Jay
  6. Today on my Corrado I finally got VAG-COM working fully on the full MK4 Golf loom, I can now interrogate the whole system and check for fault codes etc.. Engine is now coming up with 0 fault codes, so I guess I must have put it in right! :) Got a fault code on the climate control telling me the fan motor was knackered, and it is, I love this system!! :) Jay
  7. They apparently have a weak master cylinder, but its not that as otherwise I would get no pedal at all. I get a pedal but I lose it when the vacuum comes on. Jay
  8. Unfortunately I have braided hoses so that is not an option. Jay
  9. Useful bit on the AA website. http://www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/recal ... &makeId=E8
  10. Keep em coming Kev, this is all good stuff. It has 312mm 4motion fronts and 4motion calipers. It has 239 solid rear discs with MK4 calipers. The MK4 brake pedal servo setup has a brake light switch and a brake pressure sensor, neither of which are throwing up any fault codes on VAG-COM. It is fly by wire throttle, (not sure what that has to do with anything). I may give Stealth a ring tomorrow, but I am getting some good ideas from various forums I have posted this problem on tonight. The Corrado Forum once again comes up with the most though!! :) Jay
  11. Kev I have had VW do it, but they got nowhere, so VW specifics are not working here!! I have absolutely everything and i mean everything from the MK4. Servo, MC, pipework, ABS unit, Front calipers, Rear calipers, wiring loom absolutely everything!! So I will try it with the engine running tomorrow then.... Jay
  12. dr_mat, cheers for the suggestion, everyone says the same thing but, Paul has not fitted the MK4 brake system, wiring loom etc.. just the engine. He had similar problems with the Corrado ABS system, but I have done everything he did as far as I know. Jay
  13. No, I haven't actually, not that stupid an idea, but I have never heard of it being done..... could there be any possible problems? Jay
  14. There is no "slave cylinder" and if the Master cylinder was faulty I am pretty sure I would not get a firm pedal at all. I do get a pedal it just sinks when the servo gets a vacuum from the engine running, which suggests an air lock......... Jay
  15. I HAVE HAD IT WITH THESE DAMN BRAKES!!!!!!   As many of you know I have installed the complete brake system from the MK4 4motion. Literally everything. I cannot get them to work properly. Whatever I do, as soon as I start the engine and the vacuum comes on the servo the pedal just sinks, not all the way to the floor, but quite a way down. The brakes do actually work, but just right at the bottom of the travel. I have bled the system in every way possible, manual bleeding, pressure bleeding, using VAG-COM, not using VAG-COM, gravity bleeding, cracking each union off in turn, bleeding the master cylinder everything!! even down to leaving a block of wood holding the pedal down over night. I resigned to taking my car to VW for the first time ever and they had two attempts and could not get it to work. I have had a few more goes, but still it does not want to know.... I have run out of ideas, I just don't know what to do now..... Ideas please.............help me!! Jay
  16. Everything is detailed here. http://www.thatcham.org They list exactly what is still approved, what Cat 1 Cat 2 etc.. means Jay
  17. I can take a photo of the mag if you want! :) Jay
  18. Congrats on your feature mate. Car looks damn good in the feature and its a cover car!! Nice one. So when is the Turbo going on then? Jay
  19. I had Air-con on my G60 and it sounds odd to me what yours is doing. As you said the outer pulley should spin freely until the 12v is put on the electromagnetic clutch at which point it engages and starts turning the inner part and in turn the compressor. I would suspect its more likely that there is something jamming the outer part of the pulley be it a stone or a bolt thats worked loose? I would remove the aircon compressor and have a look. I wouldn't think its the clutch or compressor at fault as they sound as though they are doing what they should do. Have you tried turning the outer part of the pulley in both directions? Jay
  20. That sounds normal, its just a gravity feed pipe down to the Clutch Master Cylinder. Jay
  21. Top work mate. The best thing is they look factory as it should be! Another one for the real modders, who wants to just buy seats that plonk straight in! :) Like the anti rattle block in the sunroof! :) Jay
  22. Bargains like that don't come along very often. Fair play mate, leaves more spare cash to do it up! :) Jay
  23. Yep the only bit that is "old" is the shell, but that has been fully resprayed anyway and it has a MK4 firewall welded in! :) I think the only thing i have not replaced or changed is the rear window glass. Will try and get some more pics up soon, things are in a bit of a shake down stage at the mo. Still trying to sort the brakes. Jay Jay
  24. Supercharged - Yes he did but Phat has a Corrado ABS unit which is different. Plus I have done everything he did and still no joy. David - Anything you can find out would be very useful. I will be having a long chat with the VW tech to find out what they have done. Kev - If I ever get it working I will let you know! This is driving me nuts!! Jay Jay
