OK. As many of you know I have installed absolutely everything from a MK4 Golf into my Corrado. This along with the wiring loom, engine etc.. includes the complete brake system, servo, master cylinder, pipework, ABS unit, calipers (front and rear). This is where my problem lies. The system will not work. I can get a semi firm pedal when I bleed it, but as soon as the engine runs and there is vacuum assistance the pedal goes straight to the floor, which is the tell tail sign of an air lock. I tried everything I could, using Vag-com, not using Vag-com, pressure bleeding, manual bleeding, cracking pipes at different parts of the system everything. So for the first time in my life I booked one of my cars into VW. I thought, they have the proper machine, the knowledge (ish) the instructions everything. They bled the brakes this morning. Exactly the same problem!   So I am stuck. They could find nothing wrong with the system as such and the electronics side of things worked fine. My next step is to remove the ABS unit completely and just bypass it. If that works then I will try and find a MK4 Golf breaking where the fluid has not been drained from the ABS unit and then fit that in place of my old one, as I am fairly convinced it must be the ABS unit that has the air lock in it. If that doesn't work, I give up!! Jay

And the rest with that kind of lardy lump! :)

A VERY dissappointing day at the drag strip.....
24V Renshaw replied to PhatVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Stick with it Paul. I totally agree about the 4WD, not built for drag racing at all. My mates rallye used to light its front wheels up something cronic. What 2.8 ECU are you running it on? A MK3 one? Having seen how many little bits and pieces there are all over the place on the MK4 loom for the engine I would try and install everything from a MK4 if you can. Its a sh1t load of work, but means everything is where it should be and can be checked to make sure its all working properly. You have pointed out the problems yourself, so you know whats wrong and know it will run better so just keep on it mate. Jay -
Well Paul, you have confirmed my suspicions. That is exactly why I did not bother with the 4WD and stuck with the Quaife Diff instead. The syncro system has an 80% 20% bias off the line, so the front wheels always light up just like a normal FWD. The 4WD is awesome once your rolling in the wet, but I would rather not have all the weight for the rest of the time. Someone needs to dump a quattro system in there, then we are talking!! Jay

Blue Joe - I managed to get the FKs to fit the original lamp cluster just by cutting out the holes for the clips in the FK lamp. There are actually even moulding marks for where you need to dremel out the holes. So the lamp clusters clip in just like factory, no gaffer tape required! :) Jay

I think they would go rather well with the angel eye headlights. As they both look awful! :) Jay

Chris, when you removed the speedo needle did you lift it over the 0 - stop pin and let it stop naturally. If not, when you put the needle back on it will not be in the right place, hence the over reading. Jay

Lee - True they are never finished, but the engine install is nearly finished. Everything wiring wise is MK4, literally everything. I have only used the last couple of inches of the Corrado wires if I needed the connectors, for the rear lights etc.. There is not one bit of loom from a Corrado. Nick - yeah I just got the MMS, nice. What car is it? Jay -

PeteJ The porka wheels and adaptors were sold to Biggerbigben a long time ago, otherwise I would have given you them for £7. :) I have something new coming... Jay -

Cheers Blown. I decided I had taken the G60 engine as far as I wanted to go with it before it started to lose its smoothness. I also was hankering after all the toys of a modern car, so decided to fit everything from a modern car into the rado! :) I am dying to get it back as my daily driver, the old MK2 16v I am driving at the mo is OK, but its been long enough now!! I actually prefer it with it on. Will be a bit tight under the bonnet though, so may take some work to get it to fit. :) I like the clean factory look it gives when you open the bonnet. Jay -

Kev- It looks like a 16v when its just a bare block, very clever engineering. I will post some piccies when its all screwed back together properly and is all clean!! Jay -

Thats the trouble with having MK4 air-con, MK4 ABS, MK4 cooling, MK4 wiring and then squeezing a 24v V6 in the middle! At least there are no boost pipes.......yet! :) Jay -

Bit of an update. After 12 weeks of being up in the air the car is now on its wheels!!!! Engine is running up to temperature no problem and everything seems to be working. Need to get the brakes and clutch bled but today I got all thee front and rear lights working as they should and progress is good. 8) Still a hell of a lot to do, but its coming on. Loving the engine cover, but some work may be required to get it to clear the bonnet. Jay -
That is the radiator fan control relay unit, so I assume the fuse is for the radiator fans. Jay

Its only the bottom spline that is different, the top spline (which connects to the column) is the same on both types. Jay

The rpm is sent from the ECU to the dials, it will be picked up from the pulse on the dizzy or the coil. The speedo sender is a hall sensor on a gearded shaft which screws into the gearbox. Its the connector near the back of the gearbox with three wires going to it.

LOL. There are so many responses to that which I can't post up here! :) Jay

Coullstar, Don't know why my PM did not get through, but hopefully there is one there now mate. Been stupid busy on the car, hence I am only really on the forum around lunchtime at work. My leg is fine, it was painful as was my foot for a while, but I am now developing a nice 50mm long, 4mm deep scar in my shin. I am thinking of getting Worthersee 2005 tattooed under it! :) Jay

I only have pics of the dials in the car. Jay

It can be done. I did it. The TT and MK4 clocks will both work but if you don't get the earlier type, i.e without the FIS screen in the middle the rev counter will not work. The reason for this is the later type works on a CAN data bus, basically a serial data stream which feeds the dials with RPM of the engine etc.. so if you want the rev counter to work you need the earlier type. Dubster - I am not sure exactly what you mean about the immobiliser, but if you just want to get rid of the flashing light on the dials, open them up and stick a bit black silicon over the LED. There is no heat so it will just get rid of it from the screen. I never did it on mine as I didn't get chance before I got the MK4 engine and loom. Jay

Because it was so sudden it sounds like an air leak to me. Has one of the pipes come off? Have look over the engine and make sure all the air pipes are still connected.
