  1. I think he posts random answers to random threads, just to get his insurance company advert seen on a daily basis.
  2. It was weird when I came to visit you a few weeks back. It just didn't seem big (well, tall) enough for a car, so when I saw it on the drive I had no idea what it was. I guess you forget how low the Corrado is sometimes! Even though I'd just turned up in one...

    Quick hello

I would have sworn that any 16v's on a J reg would be 2.0 16v's... but then early style bodywork and Sebring alloys seems to re-affirm it's a 1.8... be interested to see a shot of the engine bay?

    VAG F1 team?

Who wants to watch a bloody Ford Escort sliding around on mud? ;)

    VAG F1 team?

It's not just you. I like that F1 is basically as fast as it gets. Top speed is only part of the story - massive acceleration and deceleration, cornering forces, and only the smallest margins for error. It's really about the only motorsport I watch with any real interest. Don't get me wrong, I wish it was far less commercial and far less of a media scrum - I get sick of cut aways to various F1 drivers glamorous girlfriends and Rolex logos EVERYWHERE.. and I have no time for Bernie Eccleson and his cronies, but I admire the engineering of the cars a great deal.

    Quick hello

Welcome aboard! Look forward to seeing a few pictures of the car and as others have said, there's a lot of Corrado owners up that way so should have no problems with getting help finding parts or advice on where to take the car if things need doing :)

    Leak

Does sound like it could be the dreaded heater matrix, but the scuttle foliage cover is certainly a possible culprit. As Jon says, check for coolant around the heater box by removing the tray under the glovebox and feeling around in there.
  8. Heh... Would be happy to deal with you of course John but think I am going to put my Corrado away next year, so won't be something I get around to for a while I don't think. Will be in touch when I come to look into it though :)
  9. Thing is, there's a lot of snobbery about suspension sometimes, even on this very forum. But the reality is a lot of people simply don't have £1,000 (or more) to blow on top end suspension and you need to find a fair compromise. I've only heard good things about the AP coilovers - indeed have been considering giving it a try myself for some time.
  10. I had this on my last Corrado some years back after fitting cheap wheel bearings. Swapped them for proper VW ones and the noise went away though I can't say for certain it was the bearings and just the process of removing and refitting everything just eliminated the squeak!
  11. Worth mentioning that there are companies around who can refurbish reflectors, if you struggle to find a complete unit but can source glass... google for a company called Dual Metallising :)
  12. Not sure if DG would still do this, but certainly worth giving Graham a ring!

    VAG F1 team?

Heard the same rumour a couple of days back, though believe they wouldn't be starting until the 2016 season. Would certainly add an interesting dimension to F1, no doubt about it. The total combined engineering might of the VAG group is quite substantial now.
  14. Just hope no-one on here gets suckered into buying them!
  15. Agree with Jims comments.. VR6 radiator fans are a known to sieze and set on fire so I would avoid using it until you can get it replaced!

    Head gasket

The original gasket has probably lasted 20+ years, and I'd guess 150,000 miles minimum... as the other guys have said, there's no need to think about an uprated gasket.
  17. I looked into them a while back, when I ended up buying an Octavia VRS and read they'd struggle to best high 20's even on a steady run - which honestly did put me off a bit.
  18. No worries at all :) I knew you only posted it to be helpful and might not have known some of the hoops we have to jump through to offer such things to club members. In the ideal world I'd have got the club magazine out a bit sooner with the discount code in.... :|
  19. Hi mate - sorry, I had to remove the discount code link you posted. If folks happen to find a code on the net somewhere, then that's up to them (sure it'd be easy enough), but it's a condition by the organisers of the show that in order for us to offer the discount, it has to be to our club members only in exchange for them advertising the event in our club magazine - and that we're not allowed to just distributed it out to anyone we like on a public site. Which is why to access the discount you need to sign in to the CCGB site. Cheers. Rog - it's the first link on the front page of the club site :) Have you got the correct website?! :)
  20. Yeah that's the type - very similar to that. The only difference being it has a bit of a collar between the nut at the top and the shaft of the bolt.
  21. I can't really describe them, but they're just these kind of unusual quite chunky bolts which are sort of plain metal half way up, and then switch to being threaded, that screw through the splitter and into the retaining bits on the metal bar which are threaded. Would be really surprised if they were not still available from VW.
  22. Do think they're in dream land with that 16v. All it has going for it is that it's a clean low miler. Otherwise it's a generally undesirable engine, with grey cloth, and no options whatsoever! And the alloys don't have the original finish and have just been refurbished to a generic finish.
  23. Wow - it's pretty weird seeing a different carpet colour on a Corrado, to the ones we're so used to! Pretty cool!
  24. It just ****es me off that people seem to sell these cars to dealers, rather than finding enthusiast forums like this and advertising them directly. I mean why do these low mileage, great condition cars always turn up at dealers?! And you can guarantee that the dealer would be stood there with their hands on their hips sucking their teeth saying "No one wants to buy these old VW's any more... I'll give you £1,500 mate" and then sticking it up on their website at £6,000 as a 'rare future classic' :|

    Corrado coilovers :)

I suppose the only problem is, depending on the car, whether the spring rate etc would be correct for the car? The Corrado is a lot heavier than a MK2 Golf. So I would try and at least get the correct suspension for the car.
