hmmm i dunno what to do then....i know jabba aint the best, but its done very little mostly carefull miles with a long screwdriver pressed against it in various spots it sounds fine..no bogus noise at all when running darren...is there an option of open and inspect and go from there?im not sure i can afford a rebuild right now is there any other checks i can make without pulling it apart
-
well i checked it yet again, the marks are spot on , i drove the car into town , it sounds normal but i didnt go much over 3k darren...what would happen if i was one tooth out? maybe im too picky....it might just be the noise of the interanls moving around
-
just had another look...looks spot on just so im sure both nothches should be "up" and lined up with the rib moulded intot he casing right?
-
what did you use to block of the vac pipes?? id like mine to look neat n tidy
-
okay ive just been out had a recheck...before you posted g man the noise is sounds like something taking up some slack...say if a keyway loose. i went ahead and started the car...sounded like it always does, and i used a long screw driver as a stethascope(spelling?) and the bearings purred as normal what will/would happen if the marks were out....i was very to check how they were before i took the belt off and then checked about 10 times after i fitted the new one
-
just went out to fit a new small belt to the charger...as a precaution i aligned the marks in the casing and fitted the belt...then turned it over a times by hand to double check the charger makes a noise inside when turned..comes from the center where it splits near the alt, best described as a clonk  i had no issues witht the charger, 16psi boost w68mm, no oil leaks , no movement on either shaft when i chaged the belt...it was done by jabba  prob less than 10 k ago

using a timing light with an advance dial on a g60
steveo29 replied to steveo29's topic in Engine Bay
oh..just realised i set the timing while holding the revs around 2k....was that right or wrong didnt seem to alter it anyway -
okay i got hold of a gunson timing light that has an advance dial l hooked it up , ran the engine until warm, then disconected the blue temp sender..reved past 3k 3 times .then i set the dial to 6 deg and twisted the dist until the tdc marks on the cambelt cover/bottom pulley lined up. is that right ? never used one with dial before, i realise the bottom pulley isnt as accurate as the flywheel
-
500 ohms across the outer pins on the co pot seems to be about right for most people timing is 6 degs at 2500 rpm with blue temp sender disconected(rev to 3k 3 times first)
-
you got his email please?? might be easier to email him thanks for your help

ok..sorry its a mk2 16v golf, but maybe you corrado peeps can help this week the car has played up a bit...radomly on a warm/hot start it will run really rough, wont rev just chugs away like a ropey lawnmower  if i turn off and restart it seems to be okay..tonight it took two restarts to get going i was thinking ign switch or fuel pump relay(its a recent one though) or what else does it sound like??? thing is id been having some other running issues which ive cured by swapping alot of parts from another car and i guess i couldve swaped over a faulty part? i did swap ecu's but they either work or not, dont they?? has anyone had those symtoms??
-
do they have a website?? its just ive ordered some old font before and been sent the new one cheers steve
-
i want some new plates, but i dont like the new font that came out with "51" reg and i also prefer the clear perspex ones with the sticker on the back any ideas where i can get em??? prefer "show" use without a postcode too dont mean to sound fussy, but the new style looks wrong on an older car
-
looks like a little rubber barrel and the sand paper is ready made into tubes
-
i used a belt sander and a dremel, you can also fit a throttle plate? if thats what its called from a 16v golf , as a g60 one has a big lump on it

steveo29 replied to billinjah's topic in Drivetrain
G MAN that 3m stuff sounds good..any idea what its part number is?? i recently did my brake pipes and found the brake pipe spanner rounded em off easily, i had best results with a big pair of good visegrips to crak it open and then used a spanner -
id go with ign switch
