The Haynes Technical Data Book (.pdf file) I've got specs. the VR6 idle speed as 650 - 750 rpm so you're OK ish. Is the idle lumpy/uneven? If so could be the well known coil pack and/or O2 sensor problems, do a search on the forum and you should get loads of threads.

Traction Control - not working or just not fitted?
stormseeker replied to stormseeker's topic in Drivetrain
How so? The traction control (as opposed to the anti-lock brakes!) should work when you're accelerating, usually from a standstill, to stop the wheels spinning. If you've got your foot on the throttle, how can you feel the brake pedal? Maybe you're left-foot braking to try and control the wheelspin yourself  :) -
VR6 starts when cold, idles at 1500rpm for1 sec. then dies

Thanks for the advice. Funnily enough since I posted the thread, it's been behaving itself! -
Sounds like top end rather than bottom... Head off & new valve stem oil seals and guides??? See scott's thread(s) about his smoking habit :D :D
-
Good luck Jim! Come back from the dark side soon..... :D :D :D

With "enthusiastic" use brake calipers can get hot enough to blister high temp paint so a bit of vinyl, however thick, won't stand a chance :!: :D
-
86,000 ish ...
-
Hmmmmm - confusion reigns over slick50 in the engine. I've heard conflicting reoprts - some people swear by it, others say avoid it like the plague... :? :? :?

I reckon that's more like 90% don't know what one is! When I was looking for a Corrado Storm about 6 years ago my mate was always talking back to me about Seat Cordobas - only recently found out that that's what he thought I was talking about!!!!
-
Quote form the Karmann website FAQ:- "Is there a Mr Karmann..." (long drawn out answer.... basically) YES. It's just a bloke's name :D :D :D
-
My calipers are currently black, but the paint's blistered/cracked in a few places and looks a bit tatty - I guess if you're going for the stock look (I guess these are the original calipers after 86k miles !!! ) then go black 8) :D
-
I've heard good reports of a tube of molyslip at the same time helps too!!!

Passat Rear handles & Mechs: Drivers Handle 357 839 206 Drivers Catch 357 839 016B Passengers handle 357 839 205 Passengers Catch 357 839 015B These mechs are with child locks though - don't matter as long as you don't set them! (glue/weld them off !!! :D :D ) Have a look at this thread...
-
go with the missus (if you'll excuse the pun  ) Aqua Blue & silver are good together. (Change your red VR6 badges for silver ones too and you'll be there... never really liked the red ones. :) )

That's Oichan's legendary Japanese VR6....
-
go on then.... part no. 33 is...... a speaker??? There are also pictures on ETKA of Corrados with driver & passenger airbags...
-
Six speakers = two in the back, two in the doors and two in the dash. A speaker in the middle dash panel would be seven speakers !!!

Supplying the engine with cool air to burn has no effect on the temperature the engine runs at. It's purely to get more oxygen (cooler air = denser air = more oxygen in a given volume) into the combustion chambers. This could in fact make the engine run hotter if you take full advantage of the (tiny) boost in performance this will give you.... Supplying more cool air into the grille to cool the radiator is another matter....
-
Yep, seen loads & loads & loads like that... "If only everything generated as much spares income for VW as a Corrado..."
-
Maybe turn over the engine for a good few seconds on the starter with all plug leads removed? Or thinking about unburnt fuel damaging the cat - might be better if you can stop the fuel pump working (remove fuse?) - as long as the engine puffs out the bits without actually burning (i.e. exploding!) the fuel with the alloy bits in.... of course they'll still get stuck somewhere in the cat - the honeycomb is really fine  Hmmmmm - still sounds a bit dodgy...

Saw the one where they stripped it out - PMSL !!! :D Imagine taking it for an MoT in its stripped state  Didn't see the nitrous episode but heard about it in great detail from a guy at work - except he forgot to mention it was a 200BHP dose of NOS!!!! Now all they need to do is to try and break the caravan towing land-speed record with the NOS'd up Jag - did anyone see where they blew up the Mitsi EVO towing the caravan? Another moment of TV Gold :D Especially when the side of the caravan imploded cos it couldn't handle the speed.....
-
The previous owner of my C had to replace all the rear badges as they had been nicked (bastards!!!!). And the chrome VR6 badge is now showing signs of serious wear - the left had half of the V and the right hand edge of the 6 are nearly completely black...

There should be a thread on workshop manuals in "Common Corrado Questions"... You'll have to make do with a mish-mash of manuals, rather than everything being in one "bible" (although this forum should have answers to just about every common question...) Halfords do sell a manual by Lyndsey Porter that covers Golf/Scirroco/Passat/Polo/Corrado that does have some useful info. Also, if you can get hold of a copy of the Bentley manual on CD-ROM, and the VW/AUDI parts catalogue CD-ROM (known as "ETKA") then you will at least have some decent exploded diagrams of various bits.

Yeah - opto-isolators usually are photodiode and phototransistor all sealed in one package.
