As for the rattling window guides and leaky membranes. Get a good adhesive, stuff for bonding glass, and use it on both and you'll not have to deal with it again.

Yeah that engine got broken up. I still have the empty block but my melted piston scored the bore. I might get it rebored at some point. If you can measure your bores and are within tolerance then it should be fine. Aslong as there was no excessive oil consumption. You planning on rebuilding it? The ridge isn't much to worry about if it's in minimal.
-
Bores spec should be 81.01mm +/-0.08mm according to Bentley. You'll always get a ridge at the top and it's usually not huge.

And make sure the bolts go in from the top and nuts at the bottom as in the unlikely event they come loose the bolts have more chance of staying put rather than falling out the bottom.

The thing is with it all bolted up like that then any issue wouldn't have been easily spotted. The bolts were in place as was the ball joint. The tracking was also likely set up to compensate this anomaly in the suspension geometry. Count your blessings though, as that could have been a whole lot worse. Looks like you were one heavily loaded right hand bend away from a serious disaster. Atleast it's your own doing and not a shoddy repair by a proffesional or previous owner. My corrado when I bought it was a death trap, body filler holding the front subframe together.

Yes oxygen sensor doesn't cut in until upto temp. Try disconnecting then running it, connector is situated on top of the rear engine mount.

Cheers mate yeah I was just reading up on barcoat there and it appears that's what i need. Will pick some up tomorrow. I'll prob just take all the primer off beforehand to save any other hassle with it. Might just get it done in time now. Thanks again.

Basically need a bit of advice regarding bad reaction i'm having. I usually spray my own stuff with no issues but now and then take on the odd job. I'm prepping and painting a front bumper and sideskirts for a mate. The problems began with sanding the bumper smooth, it had been temporary rattle canned a few months ago really badly and just came off in wee chunks and being a plastic bumper I couldn't take it all right back without spending huge amounts of time on it so reccomended the owner get a another bumper but they'd done smoothing work on it previously so wanted it done. I said I could run some stone chip over it, flat it and filler primer it to save time which i've done before. However I never had any of my usual stuff for the shultz gun left so got some aerosol tetrosyl. It went on fine and left to cure for 2 days. The problems began when i applied some cellulose primer to the equation, despite only using thin dry coats to begin with it reacted in numerous areas opening up like wounds and it's a mess. Any ideas to work as a repair without taking it all back? I doubt that's even possible and the bumpers as good as scrap. If I got 2k primer to seal it all in and then repair the reacted areas before blowing them over would that work. I think the reaction is the thinners in the cellulose but it appears to have stopped and is dry. I've got 4 days left before it all needs to be finished.

I cleaned my valves up on my G60 with a bench wire wheel. Aslong as there is no pitting on the seat surface and you'll need to spend a bit of time lapping them back in ( as you will with new valves too). The exhaust valves are always in worse shape than the inlets. It's a good idea to measure the valve stems and the guides for wear as if it's excessive the stem seals will wear out again quickly.

Looking at the pics in the add it looks stunning but, regardless of the mileage, if it's not mot'd and barely been driven there is potential for unknown issues that will put many off paying top money for it. It's not as if there is a huge market either. Get a ticket on it and I can't see it taking much to shift. Good ones never take long to sell but without an mot it's basically project car money if you want to shift it quick.

Thermostat housings on vr6's a pretty rubbish and prone to leakage but should be fairly obvious if it is loosing a fair bit. If you can't see any leaking then could be the head gasket on it's way out.

'I'm a proud nonreader of books' Naw, you don't say. We all compared your intellect to that of Number Jonny 5's up until now. 'I'm a proud owner of a face that looks like it's been skelped' I wish these types would disappear and gee us all peace.

A mentally deranged, attention seeking ladies under-carriage to put it as kindly as possible. All the mainstream noise makers are but that gimp is right up there. They all live in a place where the buses don't stop. And numpties still pay to watch and listen to them.

Hi, Possible the belt slipping after a certain rpm. Weak tensioner maybe. Jamie

Oh Dear..... why do they feel as though they even need to try?

I must admit though when I was a lad I thought I could take on anything in my 1.1 Mk1 Golf. And pull off over takes I wouldn't even dream in the G60 nowadays. Even if i had a 400bhp subaru i'd still not attempt them lol. I remember having a go at an escort cosworth on a road I knew well in my Mk1 and although it obviously had me in the straights I still managed to get past it as we approached 3 slower moving cars. The cossie backed out of the overtake but just kept the momentum going and done him and the 3 cars in one sweep and drove off into the sunset. Well until two minutes later when we all backed up behind another row of cars. But I cruised into town in front of that cossie so job was well done in my opinion. Nowadays I just see it all as pointless and find it amusing the risks people take to shave 30 seconds of a journey. -

I don't really entertain young boy racers as the're more hassle than the're worth and generally can't drive and take unnecessary risks. I had recently a young guy in one of those new fiat punto arbarths something or other. Right on my rear end as I cruised along in my G60. Let it go past and he still couldn't pull away from me and I remained in 5th gear on the bends while he was taking wide lines into them and really struggling to keep his fat french piece of scrap on the road. I think jealousy causes these people to do irrational things when they see a corrado. -
Yeah of course. It's always best set up correctly and the shaft being in it's correct position. There is not much adjustment at the dizzy due to it's wiring anyway. Also, as I mentioned the idle switch, check the WOT switch (wide open throttle) as obviously if that is stuck closed it'll over fuel. Although more than likely all the time as oppose to just on idle. Worth checking them both with a multi meter anyway. Once all that is done it'll probably be worth while getting the emmision checked and a basic tune up by a vw specialist as they are such temperamental animals when trying to achieve optimal performance.
-
My money would be in ignition timing since you mention the recent belt change. Could be a dodgy oxygen sensor also. But only if the issue is related to temperatue. Like it is fine on initial start up but starts mis firing when it's gets past 50 degrees or so. The ecu doesn't consider the values from the sensor until it is warm and instead uses a base map for fuelling.
-
Typical G60 issues mate. I had a hell of a time sorting mine out. It's sounds like it's only running rich on idle. I'd check the fuction of the idle switch on the throttle body. Ignition timing also as if it's had a recent belt change and the auxiliary shaft has been incorrectly aligned then that will throw timing out as the distributor is run from that shaft. You may be able to compensate for that by hooking up a timing light and trying to set it up. If it is set up correctly via the shaft, the rotor arm (when cylinder 1 is at TDC) should line up central with a slot in the distributor housing. Normal method is to highlight the 6 degrees before TDC mark on the flywheel with tippex. Have it up to temp until the fan has cut in, disconnect blue temp and rev engine 3 times above 3000rpm to engage service mode. Slacken 13mm bolt holding the distributor so it can be turned. (Mark it's original position just in case). Have someone hold revs at 2250rpm while you line up the 6 degrees before TDC with the pointer on the gearbox casing using a timing light connected to the ignition lead going to cylinder 1 ( revs will fluctuate as it's moved so whoever is controlling revs will need to compensate and have it remain at 2250rpm).Tighten distributor bolt, reconnect blue temp and rev 3 times above 3000rpm to come out of service mode. If it is overfuelling on idle revving it will usually emit black smoke. Mine burned through 20 quid of fuel over two days just sat on the drive trying to sort but mine had loads of issues.

Mainstream television is full of porn. Except it's on a less obvious subliminal level. It's what has subverted and demoralised the current and previous generations. And people are still paying for the pleasure.
-
I'd never pay for anything on television these days, not when you have the internet.

97 in a 70, what's the probable outcome?
Gti_Jamo replied to Roger Chatfield's topic in Off-topic Chat
Well for these cases of excessive speed the police have 6 months from the date of the offence in which to send papers to the court and you will recieve a court date some point after that. So you may not be quite out the woods yet. They are however supposed to keep you informed of progress along the way. -
It's amusing seeing Guy Martin being constantly being linked to TG. I mean in what world do the two resonate together. Guy's not a tv presenter, he can barely string a sentence together. He's an engineer who's best left to doing factual, hands on programming. Your not going to sling um in some make up and have him interview some moron trying to plug their latest film, song, or book on some mindless entertainment show. Chris evens is an expert in dumbed down tv and radio, he fits the bill perfectly. And will keep the x factor and hollyoaks crews tuned in to help ratings.
-
If he can read a script and talk copious amounts of sh*te for an hour then he'll fit the bill perfectly. That programme is in a league of it's own when it comes to innacurate and blatant made up info it shouldn't be even allowed. I would watch it if it was a a proper car show with proper car people with past experience in racing in some format.
