When will it end? Man killed by thieves in his OWN car!
corradophil replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
Agree with Jim, couldn't help imagining if it was my dad. When you just think some old bloke got killed it doesn't mean much, but if you think about it being someone you know it puts a whole new perspective on it. -
I say keep it too, I tried to replace mine with a Seat Leon Cupra, which is a lot more fun than a Diesal run about. The Seat has gone and I use the Corrado every day again. I don't miss the Seat one bit. I do around 300 miles a week by the way.

 F ing C*&ts. What the hell is wrong with em? -
RW1, cheers, your the man!!! Once again providing a lot of very useful information. Just got to get one now...
-
Yep, that was what I meant, to see just how bad the fit is. I "may" be getting somewhere with a supplier too, but nothing definate yet. I'll keep you all posted.

It would be interesting to see a photo, although I suspect it wouldn't look great. I have just spoken to GPC, they say these are obsolete and cannot be obtained from anywhere new including Germany.

Is a C more like a mk2 or like a mk3 to drive?
corradophil replied to mk4steve's topic in Drivetrain
I would say it's more like a Mk2 to drive. I'd buy a VR6 if I were you, or maybe if you fancy doing a conversion get an 8v or 16v and convert to 1.8T. -
Hmmm, obviously the more people who are 100% definately interested, the more buying power we have. I'll give GPC a ring and ask for 3, see if that makes em more keen to push to get them. Might also phone the bloke in Ireland and see what he has to say about it too, maybe he could offer a discount on a higher quantity. I got in touch with VDO, but they are not allowed to sell manufacturer specific items due to tight controls by the car makers.

Ice White Socks, The bloke I spoke to was called Steve, although he was in touch with Dara and mentioned him several times. He originally said €140, but checked with whoever had to supply him and got told they have gone up. mgbv8mike, Beleive it or not I've not even seen any LHD ones for sale. RW1, I'll give GPC a ring, and see what they say.

Would that be Pierse Motors VW(Tipperary)? I have spoken to them, and they beleive they can get them, but a around £180 just for the pod!!! Alot more than they were earlier this year. If you know of any VW dealers who will do them at a lower price, please let me know.
-
Definately rare, I've been doing some research and they do appear to be available brand new, even though UK dealers say they aren't, but they are priced very high. My last resort is either 52mm gauges from an Audi or none at all, but I've not given up on the originals yet. I have a business contact in Germany, who I may ask to try and help me if I can't find them on here.
-
As above for a late interior right hand drive Corrado. Idealy I would like the complete kit including oil pressure sender, and it's plumbing, but would also be interested in the gauge pod only.
-
I've not tried Optimax etc in mine yet, the extra cost puts me off  Not sure what the fueling is like on mine. I cannot do the WUR mod because mine is a factory fitted 9A with KE-Motronic, although hopefully it will adjust the fueling to suit via the lambda. Oh yes mine still has a cat too.
-
Hmmm, maybe I'll have to have a play with my throttle body, it's standard at the moment. I had a fiddle with the ignition timing last week, when it was on the rollers it made 162bhp at 6deg BTDCon 95 octane unleaded, I've advanced it to around 8 deg and it's noticably more lively.
-
Are you going to change the block for a 6A or 9A, or are you going for a complete new engine?
-
From my experience. 1st gear - Noticably more lively. 2nd gear - A liittle more livlely, but not alot. 3rd gear - If there is a difference its very small. 4th & 5th gear - No noticable difference from standard. I do like it better with the lightened flywheel, but don't expect a big difference.
-
I've left mine on my licence, I've had two SP30s, both are invalid now, but they ain't getting another penny out of me. Anyway I earnt those points, and had to pay for them, so I'm keeping them By the way once SP30 made no difference to my insurance.
-
Mine is from race power motorsport in Kent. It was about £80 exchange. They machine the originals down. No downsides as yet, but if your going to remove the gearbox just for this, I wouldn't bother, the biggest difference is in 1st gear, which you don't use for long.
-
The lower swivel joints are new on mine, too. Only things left are track rod ends, track rod to steering rack joints, steering rack, or possibly the shock absorbers, although the fact it's a common problem and we all probably have different suspension makes me doubt its the shocks.
-
Well, mine has new suspension bushes all round including top mounts, and it still does it. No other complaints though, it drives very well, so I'm trying to think of it as part of it's charm and character  otherwise I'll drive myself insane and waste hour upon hour underneath the car trying to work it out.

9a is what was fitted to the 2.0 16v Corrado and Passat. 6a is the Audi 2.0 16v. ABF is tall block 2.0 16v in Mk3 Golfs and Seats etc. You can get the complete engine code for your car from the log book, it will be 9A followed by several numbers.

You don't need that for the firing order. Stand at the near side of the car looking at the dizzy cap. Firstly the the firing order is 1-3-4-2. From where you are standing this sequence will be anti clockwise. So find the HT lead from number 1 cylinder (Furthest away from gearbox), then anti clockwise from that the next lead should be going to cylinder no. 3 etc. Can't remember on a valver, but suspect its the same as an 8v, when you remove the dizzy cap there is a notch cut out of the outside dizzy where the cap goes on, its approximately 10mm long, the cap has a corresponding lug which locates in it. IIRC this is adjacent to the No. 1 lead.

Mine was pretty covered until Sunday, it normally gets a wash about once a month. I hate washing cars, I'd rather be working on the engine, suspension etc. Still it got a good waxing too, and looked lovely. Its now dirty again because it rained yesterday.
-
Just remember if you leave it un plugged your fan will not work.
-
Sounds like the fan switch to me. I had the same on my Golf a few years ago. It screws into the N/S of the radiator, unplug the electrical connection to it (either 2 or 3 pin) and see of the fan stops, if it does thats your problem.
