  1. Yeah Pirtek are very good but also very expensive... I got some mid brake hoses made up to my own spec, with replaceable stainless ends - came to £60 the pair, roughly the cost of a 6 line goodridge kit in mild steel... Got a quote to copy a new VAG clutch slave hose I have - said this would be £70 to be the same quality but with stainless unions.

  3. the late 9A doesn't appear to have a thermostime switch...
  4. Sounds like one of the connections to the coil? (round thing about the size of a redbull can)
  5. Was8v -I looked at that but you need compressed air (which I have) but it appears to be a vacuum bleeder and not pressure unless i'm mistaken...
  6. The book you get with the car - in the document wallet!
  7. If you've got CCTV mate then thats enough to prosecute for criminal damage or maybe go thru his car insurance?
  8. The answer to both questions above is in the instruction manual!!!
  9. Yeah they'll be ok as long as they are not too old - it's oil you don't want... You should always sand old pads if re-using with different discs etc
  10. A lot of VW O rings are hard to match becuase if the thickness - just buy one from VW FFS!
  11. Maybe run it off the fag lighter socket of your car?
  12. Too tight then mate! I did the same a while back, tbh they are good kits but really only meant to be used a couple of times and the seals go after a bit, I called Gunsons and they sent me another 2 new ones out and i've not had any more probs, I also bleed at a much higher pressure than they say - 20-30PSI and as Kip said, no probs at all bleeding ABS or non ABS cars / clutches etc... just wish they'd make a heavy duty kit for about £50 which held more fluid / longer hose etc Great work Mr Kippax, it's nice knowing it's all brand new and your not going to have to hit that area of the car again for a while! 8)
  13. Rob - thats fine, feel free to start a new thread in suppliers about them to raise awareness! Did you pay on credit card?
  14. The blue / black grommets same as a MK3, peanuts from VAG
  15. No it pulls but be carefull with the clips... Use new grommets when you put it back, makes a big difference to the fit.
  16. The only thing I would say is to go thru G-werks as a supplier as Darren does some extra checks and finishing on the stuff as it comes thru... I bought one direct from CNC and was very disapointed with the finish, especially as I paid extra for the hand finish etc... it arrived painted with overspray all over the place, over the injector seals (£2 each from VW so peanuts compared to the price of the head) and also paint inside the cam caps (on the bearing surface), the water flanges had severe corrosion to the outer surface too so had to skim these with black silicon! The excuse I was given from Ric Wood was that it was an exchange head and not new and that the paint on the injector seals would help them seal, I knew this was bollocks and also spoke to my local Bosch injection centre as I was getting the injectors ultra-sonically cleaned and they agreed, also called Dave 'man in the shed' Crissell about it and he said it was unbelieveable - tbh his heads are not flow-tested but the finish is second to none and half the price, I'd happily loose a bit of gas flow for a better finished product. Mine seems a bit more responsive but is still running hotter than it did before so I'm now worried that I have a standard GTI head - ie no sodium filled exhaust valves... :? I also had to make a couple of follow up calls to get my exchange deposit back after sending the head back as 'they didn't keep my credit card details', extra hastle and not a small amount of money as the surcharge was over £400 - another reason to go thru G-werks!
  17. Haynes Passat covers the 9A engine or there is Autodata or the ErWin VW site
  18. My old one was falling apart so thought i'd take advantage of an Amazon.ca voucher and buy a new one... £44 all in / delivered was a great price so stuck the order in about 6 weeks ago... ...and today, this arrived - WTF!?! http://www.amazon.ca/Parkinsons-Disease ... 0781778816 Do you think they are trying to tell me something?
  19. Worth posting what has been changed and what work has been done recently... Ie Fuel pump relay? Fuel filter etc?
  20. New chargers are still available from VW for £2200 but they have not been manufactured since 1995 so would still need a rebuild!
  21. John - to answer the original post you need the late MK3 Golf (95on) kit to fit the 288's, the other hoses are the same (as long as your not running MK4 rear calipers) Just check you have the right banjo bolts for the calipers you have as the MK4 288's are a different thread pitch to the MK3 ones.
  22. Yeah, remove white things and it lifts up and tilts fwd, there is also a lock on the left hand side to undo in order to remove the looms, it slide across
