Brakes - Can't unbolt caliper carrier from hub...ideas pls ?
Supercharged replied to danp's topic in Drivetrain
Those bolts should be done up to 125Nm, soak them in PlusGas (or WD40) over night and have another go in the morning... I assume you have the steering on full lock?? - Halfords do a nice big breaker bar for £20... -
Big-ted, you don't need an 'extra' washer... GSF ones come with one already attached, the VW ones use a paper gasket...
-
Jack the wheel up and look for play, could be a ball joint, bush or CV but may be something simple like a loose brake caliper or carrier bolt so worth checking...

LOL - Like the username!

16v... heavy fuel consumption and intermittent ..EDIT !!
Supercharged replied to rayb74's topic in Engine Bay
Dizzy cap, rotor arm and leads are worth doing if never been changed before... maybe look for signs of arcing at night by spraying a mist of water of the leads if you think it's ignition related... -
The alternator belt is tensioned correctly I take it?
-
Not sure what time it will be as i'll have to dig the stuff out... If I don't appear give me a call tomorrow
-
HAHA -! Some cream should clear that up in no time...
-
LOL - I've been drinking every night this week and promised (myself) I'd have a night in... ...Adnams Explorer please mate...
-
The fuse changed several times for the spoiler, just check them all...
-
Pads are new, discs have a couple of thou on them (were off Dinkus's old car) I'd offer to help you fit but as you know, being out in the cold for an hour may kill me, lol! Gimme a call - I'm in tonite...
-
There is a metal strip underneath that goes rusty and may distort the rubber, I think you can remove it and hammerite it but i've not tried... The seal itself is £110 + vat from VAG!
-
I'll speak to Neil - I think they were about £50 + vat the pair (I assume the £26 excludes vat?) - I won't be able to get until next week tho... I've got some nearly new VAG VR discs in the garage (off Doms car) and a new set of FR pads if you desperate for them this weekend?
-
Was the caliper new? does the piston push out ok?
-
BQ means best quality but it's still worth paying a couple of quid more for a VAG one... (the GSF BQ ones used on my TDI was worn out within 2 years...)
-
I thought they were 36mm (multipoint) but may be wrong...
-
Al, check the bulb if the pattern is suspect, you may even have a LHD lense... You can borrow a headlight of my G60 if needed to get it passed... let me know... I'm sure I can get the discs for you cheaper from VAG than the GSF price (Neil may still have those ones in stock I was on about)
-
I'll move this to the GB section then...

Saw a red one in Great Yaaaaaarrrrmooouth yesterday, H** LRD I think... -
Thats too low - as I said above, change the temp senders first...
-
You need to spin and check for play in the pulley with the belt off, change that first and report back...
-
Walesy, I assume they are the normal Golf Mk2 ones as obviuosly it's the same floorpan but i've not got access to ETKA here to check...
-
It looks like I'm gonna be hanging around here a lot...

Yep, the G60 sump gasket is different, make sure you use the re-enforced one!
