Ok, multimeter time, measuring resistance.... Water temp 10 degrees C = 3000ohm Water temp 80 degrees C = 300ohm The 3000 should move consistenly down to 300 as the engine warms up, if not, change the sensor!

Tut tut... Seriously, I wouldn't trust a VW dealer if they have told you you need a new Gbox, the amount of VR6 owners that have been told they need a headgasket or new engine when they have a small sensor problem... classic example today down at Stealth, P-reg VR6 Storm reading an oil temp of 200 degrees C, VW had told the owner a new HG was required, I wonder what they would have said to him if he had gone ahead with the work and then they had founf it was a faulty gauge cluster (another £800 plus VAT!) which I can't beleive even the 'technians' would have overlooked, especially as the rev counter wasn't working and the oil light always flashing  Maybe worth giving Vince a call, he is a gearbox expert but not sure if he does auto's? - he will certainly be able to change the sensors and give you good, no-bullsh1t, advice!

not another passat handle question - need an answer tho

Yeah, the fronts will fit depending on year and you may need the matching mechs... New Corrado handles are £45 from GPC -
The 'Haywire' Manual... would be VR6 only tho... On the subjest of ABS sensors I had my right front one changed whilst down at Stealth today, as the intermittent fault turned into a constant one! - they are woth cleaning first but eventually just need replacing... Not too difficult but the original ones are metal cased (the new Hella one was ABS, no pun intended, plastic) and need some persuasion to get out after years of getting hit by road dirt etc, they had to take the caliper and disc off to get at mine, useful tools are a hacksaw, molegrips, and a screwdriver/hammer to use as a chisell and some emery cloth to clean the guide ready for the new one. Maybe worth checking your rotors for distortion (could be the ticking noise) and rust etc, one of mine is slighly distorted but appears to work fine, these would have to be changed with the wheels bearing.

... and the company is called 'SAAB' I think
-
I hear some owner of a Swedish furniture company has just overtaken him as richest man in the world!
-
Agreed, If the calipers are working but not getting hot and are effectivly holding the car on the handbrake then you most likely just need to adjust the cable at the lever end.

Koni Top Adjustables with H&R springs along with new top mounts and bump stops. I have just had the above fitted to my car at Stealth Racing and the transformation from the original setup is amazing, the ride height is spot on (roughly 30mm lower all round) and gives a firm but not harsh ride with hardly any body roll at all. It also seems to improve the passive rear steering and braking is also much more positive! 8)

I would def. change the sensors as Kev says, you never know, it may give the car a new lease of life!
-
GSF are getting worse by the day, I have noticed several parts they charge more than VW for and there not even genuine!
-
Just use the silver quantum syntha from VW dealers or GSF, its 10w 40 and made by Castrol.
-
Yeah, the price is fine, I changed my drivers side one last month and it was a b1tch of a job... I got the complete rod from GSF for about £17 but it only had 2 sides to tighten up (32mm spanner) and the only way to tighten with the steering rack and engine still on the car is between the wishbone and subframe moving the rack to where it needs to be - I'm still not completly happy that i couldn't get the last turn on it to tighten it up so Stealth are going to do it taking the wishbone off when they fit my Koni kit.
-
Or, get a torch Key off a mk3 and put an LED in it.
-
I watched Stealth do Kev's, the bushes are only £12 each on the VR and I think the G60 ones are about half that... Its the work involved that bumps up the price, its a bitch of a job and they has to cut off the rear brake bias valve on Kevs altho Vince was saying this shouldn't be neccessary on a G60... http://www.vwspares.co.uk/corrado_suspension.html
-
I would try and get it VAG-Com'd first off, sounds like there is some sort of sensor playing up!
-
Its consistent then I take it?
-
Ok, cheers Mr Knight.... Yeah, Kev's ride height is spot on and his car feels superb round corners, especially since the rear axel bushes were done, the rear of the car seems to follow thru alot more smoothly now and you can throw it about with alot more confidence, It definetly has that mk2 GTi feel to it! Hopefully the lowering will sort out the body roll but if mine still feels like its going to loose the back end round fast bends I will do the bushes next and maybe pick up a rear ARB at Inters.

Auto fluid should be changed every 20k so maybe worth a try if it hasn't been done recently but if its not going into 4th at all then it probably won't fix the problem... how high do the revs go in 3rd?
-
Yeah, I've just ordered the same setup as the Jedi... I also could not seem to get any H&R's for weeks... I think the Eibachs should give a 30mm drop
-
I've just ordered this Kit as I was having probs getting hold of the H&R's, like you say Jedi, its a good price for the shocks alone and I can sell the springs on if I do manage to get the H&R's How are you getting on with yours? I read you had a slight prob with the rear ride height matching the fronts - any tips?
-
..or remove the bulb
-
If you do a search you will find loads of info - and yes, you need a new handle, theres no real viable repair option. GPC £45
-
Yeah, I was going to say - I was looking at that engine a couple of hours ago!
-
And he hadn't even noticed his Caravan was missing  :-P
-
As Kev says, whats in the handbook is just to cover VW! 1litre per k when new and being run in maybe but that should then drop to almost nothing, then as the car gets older that will then start to rise again as engine wear begins but when you get back to 1ltr every 600 miles then i'd say you have a problem!
