  1. Get a meet setup - if it was feasible, I'd try get over and say hello :)
  2. Yep. Pretty sure it's been obsolete for quite a while.
  3. It's amusing which bits end up being a bit 'grail' on the Corrado and this seems to be one of them. This piece has long since dissolved away on a lot of cars, and I've lost count of the amount of threads of people looking for these over the years! Really need to get some reproductions made up.
  4. That's bonkers. Someone should snap your hand off. Not tempted to just buy a cheap Corrado to smoke around in, and slap your killer audio setup into it just to make the commute to work a bit more enjoyable? :)

    Jims New Shed..

It really is. I'm chuffed to bits with it! I really think with some strategic spit and polish in the right places, it could turn out extremely nice.
  6. Yep stick up a video so we can have a listen.

    Jims New Shed..

Very shortly mate. And yeah.. it is rather hearse-like!! Maybe I need to start driving around with a top hat and tails on. Just booked it in with a local specialist for an Inspection II service, and investigation into some front end clunking. These cars, it seems, are pretty notorious and susceptible to worn bushes, etc.
  8. Apparently they won't ship their wings outside of the US.
  9. Welcome to the forum. Was never entirely sure on this, but my assumption was that maybe if the exhaust got too hot, it could potentially warp the bumper slightly? I don't imagine there's many Corrado's left on the road with this shield in good condition though!
  10. I know it's not a Corrado, but I know there's enthusiasts of other marques on here too :) After the Corrado went, I knew I wanted a BMW but hadn't worked out exactly what. Then, as often seems to happen in my life, I got a message on Facebook from a friend of mine looking to sell his old 5 series so I went to check it out.. couldn't help myself at £1000 :) Plan is to run this for a while whilst I look for something a bit nicer.. but I can see me hanging onto it longer ;) It's a 2001 E39 530D SE Touring.. with black leather, xenon headlights, cruise control, climate control.. motor in 530D guise is a 3 litre 6 cylinder turbo diesel. Everything works as you'd expect. But been using it this weekend for lugging a load of furniture and stuff and it's been awesome. I really bought it with the intention of just smoking around in it for a few months and generally not caring very much but already getting the urge to start spending money on sorting stuff out. I think it's a potential diamond in the rough.. interior needs a proper shampooing, leather needs feeding / cleaning, few mechanical gremlins here and there, a few bits of bodywork....

    Mk5 Gti

Very nice indeed :) Those 2.0 TFSI engines are a real peach too.
  12. Don't lower the rear beam TOO far. My understanding is you can damage the rear axle bushings if you remove the top nuts from the dampers and let it drop too far. Definitely support it with a jack and just lower it enough to clear the fuel tank.
  13. No surprise you sold it so quickly. This was the bargain of the century and reckon you could have easily got 7-8k without too much trouble :(
  14. I never got that trend of car modding in recent years where you have one massive gaping grille reaching right from the lower lip of the bonnet all the way down to the bottom of the bumper.. seen quite a few TT's modified that way and universally think it's a bad look. I'm sure it doesn't help that thing is on the standard MK3 Golf GTI alloys.. sure some decent wheels would improve the look a fair bit!
  15. Hopefully someone else can confirm but the FAG bearings and Viton oil seals are, I believe, regarded as being high quality.
  16. I guess it depends on how handy you are with the spanners? :) I've done a few jobs on my car, but with G-laders being so scarce, I think I'd be more inclined to remove and ship down to a specialist like JMR.
  17. Yeah - always found outside / ambient temperature made a heck of a difference.
  18. Exactly the same as I had on mine, as have a number of others on this forum. Like I say, multiple rebuilds, including replacement of things like lifters and even a replacement HEAD and that same noise on the belt side persisted. Specifically from the rear left hand side of the motor. Listened to rebuilt and non-rebuilt VR's that were much quieter. Never got to the bottom of it. It virtually broke me and drove me insane trying to understand the reason for it. Certainly worth experimenting with oil weights as you will find it changes the sound profile. I did find, prior to my first rebuild, Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 10w50 really did make a massive difference.
  19. Can't remember what the connector looks like, but could it be the illumination for the ash tray?
  20. Are you sure this is top end noise and not the classic VR6 bottom end 'piston slap' noise? Honestly, speaking as someone who sank nearly £8000 into two complete VR6 engine rebuilds over two years, don't let this become an obsession like it did for me. The VR6 is, apparently, pretty notorious to tame from a noises and rattles point of view. I simply couldn't see past valve-train noise, piston slap noise, and it was part of what broke my enthusiasm for the car, leading me to sell. Even a rebored block, with new pistons, and the piston slap noise from cold came back within a matter of months. I was resigned to the fact it was just not fixable though I am DESPERATE to know know the underlying reason for WHY it happens, and why it's so hard to cure. The advice I kept getting was - just turn the radio up and accept that the VR6's roots as a diesel engine are hard to shake.
