    Piston rings

It's my understanding from conversations with Stealth prior to my last engine rebuild, and from various other sources, that simply replacing the rings is unlikely to be all that needs doing. Yes it's possible that rings are no longer sealing properly but there's other factors to take into consideration with the cylinder bores such as the bores becoming slightly ovalised (which can be corrected with machining assuming they're not TOO worn) or tapered. A cheaper option could just be to live with it.. what exactly are the symptoms / problems? Alternatively you could take a punt on a low mileage 2.8 VR6 from a breaker and have that installed.
  2. Heard it's basically a ransom. They've changed their T&C's and hiked the prices - so everyone who was using them to host pictures can either pay up, or they don't have their pictures hosted any more. https://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/3013198/photobucket-wrecks-thousands-of-sites-with-usd399-ransom-for-embedding-photos
  3. I think it might be worth mentioning here, as someone corrected me with mine, that I think the DAB aerial is slightly incorrectly installed. Apparently that little copper coloured tab should be actually be behind trim and ideally touching on something metal (bodywork) so all that should be visible is the little black box and the film aerial bit. I had mine deployed exactly the same on my Corrado (and it worked superbly) but someone mentioned it to me, so I thought I should pass it on!
  4. Fronts are a doddle... arguably easier than the rears. No bearings to replace as they are not integral to the disc like the rears. They work the same as virtually another modern era car with disc brakes. Worth having a quick look on YouTube for some tutorial videos on other era VW's like MK3 or MK4 Golf. Honestly they are a piece of cake :) You don't need to wind back the front calipers in the same way and can just lever them open with a screwdriver utilising the old brake pads which it is probably worth changing!
  5. The crazy thing is I found my original, unbroken, good condition silver one and put it on eBay gleefully expecting to net about 70 quid for it and it sold for a ridiculous £13. Guy took a week to pay me and hasn't even bothered leaving feedback either. Gutted.

    Back Again

Hey.. happy to reset your old account with your current email address and set a new password? Do you want to PM me your email address and I'll take care of it? Cheers.
  7. More comedy pricing on eBay from a serial offender.. A horrible corroded bonnet cable trumpet for £40: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-CORRADO-BONNET-CABLE-CATCH-FITTINGS-RELEASE-CABLE-GROMMETS-16V-8V-VR6-G60-/272606995451?hash=item3f78a4a3fb:g:VgYAAOSwsW9Y2NZ~ Or a brand new one for £6.50... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CORRADO-Nipple-for-Bonnet-Cable-535823555-/182142165147?epid=1317028794&hash=item2a6884e09b:g:Z4gAAOSwbPxXQXs6 Tough one! :)
  8. Hey folks - just about to sell my last two pairs of this last batch. If anyone is after more of these please let me know and I'll look at putting in another order otherwise I guess these are out of stock for the time being. Cheers.
  9. To be honest Quantum 10w40 still stands as a perfect choice for a normal or normalish VR.
  10. Ugh. Meyle stuff is generally regarded as being pretty good, but I know anything other than OE wheel bearings on the Corrado were always a lottery. Maybe they'll move over to being a Classic Parts item at twice the price now? :)
  11. Well.. I tried to sell one on eBay last week.. the buyer won it for an absolute song, but they haven't paid me yet - and it was almost a week ago so I was at the verge of reporting the buyer and relisting it. Not sure what you have in mind for a good condition example? I don't want to rip anyone off of course but similarly I'd like to get fair money for it.
  12. And as if that wasn't enough, apparently the icecream at Nardini's in Largs is supposed to be awesome :D
  13. I want to give a shout out to this guy - Duncan at Genesis Watchmaking: http://www.genesiswatchmaking.co.uk/tag-heuer-pricing.html I had a couple of Omega's worked on, and also an irreplaceable albeit low value pocket watch (family heirloom) and he just does excellent work, with excellent communication too. Only downer is you need to ship to him so you of course want full tracked / insured postage! Prices are pretty reasonable I think - watch repair, done properly, is a serious skill!
  14. No-one post scanned copies of the magazine here, please! Print magazines are having a hard enough time as it is, not to mention the legal ramifications for the forum. Just go and buy a copy. Thanks.
  15. I'm still gonna go with ignition switch. And claim credit for suggesting it ;)

  17. Welcome back to the forum after a bit of a hiatus :)
  18. Finally got the belt on the 4th visit this evening... 3 of those today! Mid way through being served, the assistant went out for a cigarette break and another guy took over.. meanwhile someone was having a furious / emotional argument with a manager outside that seemed to be more relating to a personnel issue than a problem with a car part. I think it's fair to say that branch has some management and/or morale issues. Big time.
  19. That didn't seem to be on the cards.. but maybe I'll see what's what when I go back.
  20. I'm too soft on companies when I get this sort of thing. I don't really want compensation - I just want them to know they screwed up and try and make sure it doesn't happen again. But you're right - I should give them both barrels when I go back this afternoon and I should have demanded the free delivery.
  21. I just had to post this up on here as I'm going through the most ludicrous experience with EuroCarParts at the moment. Earlier in the week I checked stock of two drive belts I need for my 5 series - they were in stock, so I reserved them with click and collect and went to pick them up. I was told the computers were down, they couldn't process any sales.. and to basically come back later. Working in IT was I amazed their whole system could be knackered in this way, but **** happens.. so said no problem and went back to work. So I left it a day, rang up to confirm the items were there and that the computers were now working (they were) so I said to the guy I'd come in first thing this morning. Duly drive over there this morning only to find out they have one of the belts in stock but the other wasn't in stock, and it would be in by lunch time. Mildly ****ed off as I thought the whole point of click and collect is to RESERVE stock, and I was told they were in stock! So before lunch time I ring up again - yep, belts are in stock, come and get them. Drive over, and guess what! They don't have the second belt in stock STILL. I wanted to smash the place up, honestly I was so angry. I politely told the lady behind the counter that I knew it's not her fault but that I was just in disbelief at this experience. So now I need to drive back a FOURTH TIME this afternoon to try and pick up this damn belt again. Rant over.
  22. A forum member put together a fairly comprehensive guide on the heater matrix replacement.. the pics seem to have gone AWOL but the description is pretty good. http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?45452-Replacing-the-heater-matrix-non-canada-style-max-pics I've got a copy of it I can upload with (most) pictures in it if it'd be of use! It's not too bad to be honest - just time consuming! Those screws you talk about are in the scuttle panel - a bit of a fiddle to access, but no-where near the screen and the screen doesn't need to be removed or anything :)
  23. Great news for sure - but I'm sure karmannski will be a bit hacked off having spent an awful lot of time and money on making reproductions. Wonder if VW will consider getting the window scraper seals remade next - sure they'd sell a heck of a lot of pairs!
  24. Also not pictured is the one off bespoke centre arm rest! Surprised we never got around to getting a replica mocked up as it was quite a cool idea for a design.
