Good effort Rob. I too have realised the Same thing. I took my lump out to fix a few things, and just tidied up everything as I went along. I was getting a bit frustrated it wasn't up to the standard of some of the others on here, but then remembered it was never the intention for it to be concourse. A nice solid and clean example will more than suffice mate. :thumbleft: What did you do to get rid of the rattles then? I was just gonna get some felt and renew all the contact parts on the trim, and ensure all nuts and bolts are secure etc.......

Thanks Theo, yep for anyone reading in future, I clamped the crossmember wrapped in a load of rags in a vice, used the base of a screwdriver handle against the bush, whilst pulling on the shaft. All lubed up with washing up liquid to aid fitment. That sounds so wrong!

I'd crank it over with fuel pump relay removed or something, so it doesn't figure up, just to ensure oil pressure has built up properly. Unless it has minimal fuel, a bit of fresh would help too, otherwise you should be ok.

Specific upholstery brushes will be fine, or a shoe polishing brush which is absolutely the exact same thing, can be had for a quid in your local supermarket! As long as the bristles are soft, it'll be fine giving em a light scrub.

I got mine from a mk3 Golf. Much more available.

Halfords Chris, £1.99 or £1.49 with trade card. I can't remember the diameter sorry. There were two in stock, and it was the smaller of them. It should be obvious when you see it though, the other is much too large. One pack is plenty enough as well mate.

Martin, just had a look through my photos but don't have any clearer than already in this thread. The pipework comes from the reservoir and bends 90° down to a T piece, then runs forward and aft down the chassis leg. Aft to the rack, and forward to the hard pipe across the crossmember that you saw yesterday. Nothing more to it than that mate, just a case of chasing it back, and seeing if the sleeve will shift up to expose the splice between rubber and metal pipe where is obviously a typical weak point.

Finished the prep work in the bay now. Had to wrap a couple of small parts where there had been some chafing, but luckily none had gone through any of the wiring insulation. All existing looms and plugs have had a good clean, and cross member is in with all mounts in place ready to accept the engine. Replaced the washer pipes as they were very discoloured and brittle, just need some in the correct size for charcoal canister now. Interior has now been fully prepped ready for paint from the furniture clinic kit. Don't have any photos though sorry. Forgot in my "high" state from breathing in the fumes from the prep solution! :scatter: Where do people get their spark plugs from? I'm loath to pay for 8 from Halfords, even with trade discount! Couple of pics but not much. Old vs new Lump in on Monday if I'm allowed out to play!

Agree with the above comments. It relatively low mileage but he says it's had a poor respray, and Said extra for the 'special bits'. Seems relatively avarage to me.

As long as you keep on top of cleaning them, and seal them properly after polishing, I can't imagine more than every couple of months or so. It won't take long to give em a quick going over with general washing anyway. Again as long as they're not too bad, any reasonable metal polish will be fine.
