  1. Thanks Theo, yep for anyone reading in future, I clamped the crossmember wrapped in a load of rags in a vice, used the base of a screwdriver handle against the bush, whilst pulling on the shaft. All lubed up with washing up liquid to aid fitment. That sounds so wrong!
  2. I'd crank it over with fuel pump relay removed or something, so it doesn't figure up, just to ensure oil pressure has built up properly. Unless it has minimal fuel, a bit of fresh would help too, otherwise you should be ok.
  3. Specific upholstery brushes will be fine, or a shoe polishing brush which is absolutely the exact same thing, can be had for a quid in your local supermarket! As long as the bristles are soft, it'll be fine giving em a light scrub.
  4. I got mine from a mk3 Golf. Much more available.
  5. Halfords Chris, £1.99 or £1.49 with trade card. I can't remember the diameter sorry. There were two in stock, and it was the smaller of them. It should be obvious when you see it though, the other is much too large. One pack is plenty enough as well mate.
  6. Martin, just had a look through my photos but don't have any clearer than already in this thread. The pipework comes from the reservoir and bends 90° down to a T piece, then runs forward and aft down the chassis leg. Aft to the rack, and forward to the hard pipe across the crossmember that you saw yesterday. Nothing more to it than that mate, just a case of chasing it back, and seeing if the sleeve will shift up to expose the splice between rubber and metal pipe where is obviously a typical weak point.
  7. Cheers chaps, ordered. :thumbleft:
  8. Finished the prep work in the bay now. Had to wrap a couple of small parts where there had been some chafing, but luckily none had gone through any of the wiring insulation. All existing looms and plugs have had a good clean, and cross member is in with all mounts in place ready to accept the engine. Replaced the washer pipes as they were very discoloured and brittle, just need some in the correct size for charcoal canister now. Interior has now been fully prepped ready for paint from the furniture clinic kit. Don't have any photos though sorry. Forgot in my "high" state from breathing in the fumes from the prep solution! :scatter: Where do people get their spark plugs from? I'm loath to pay for 8 from Halfords, even with trade discount! Couple of pics but not much. Old vs new Lump in on Monday if I'm allowed out to play!
  9. Agree with the above comments. It relatively low mileage but he says it's had a poor respray, and Said extra for the 'special bits'. Seems relatively avarage to me.
  10. Only 233 8v's! Puts the G60 to shame...............well, for rarity anyway!
  11. Don't mention it Martin, glad I could help and it was good to see your very nice one too! :thumbleft:
  12. Tax discs will be no more later this year, but can't see how old random ones would be worth anything.............
  13. As long as you keep on top of cleaning them, and seal them properly after polishing, I can't imagine more than every couple of months or so. It won't take long to give em a quick going over with general washing anyway. Again as long as they're not too bad, any reasonable metal polish will be fine.
  14. Is it a paid subscription for panjo to host this, or whatever they do in computer speak? Just thinking maybe it's time to admit defeat, and cut and run............

    That's the only one mate.
  17. Oh and the season started with such optimism. Alas, we've probably narrowly avoided relegation. Sean O'dismall has been shown the door, and Steve Cottrell is now at the helm. Not a huge fan of his and wasn't overly pleased when he took over due to the style of football his team's seem to play, but being honest league 1 is never going to play Barca style possession pass and move football is it! To be fair, he seems to have turned things round. Made some very shrewd loan signings who are available on frees in the Summer, are making all the right noises about wanting a permanent contract at the club, and they've made a huge difference too. That coupled with a bit of enthusiasm which is obviously infectious, but which O'Dismall was severely lacking in, has turned around our fortunes. If the season had started when SC took over, we'd be fourth now! This time I'll be quietly optimistic at the start of next season!
  18. I've never owned one but had the opportunity to drive a Red 944 with not so contrasting brown cloth interior in 2.5litre S flavour. To say I was underwhelmed is an overstatement, although I had to make all the right noises to the friend that owned it at the time! To me now, the 944 cries badge snob. It was marketed as the affordable Porsche for the masses, and as such everything seemed to be pretty limp. I may have been expecting more with it being a Porsche, but I just feel there are far better cars around, even of the same vintage for less money. That coupled with horrendous parts and servicing costs will ensure I never contemplate owning one. Just my opinion mate.
  19. I got locked out with the engine running on my old valver too! Luckily I'd been in the engine bay so bonnet was up. Pulled the king lead which was still sparking like a good Un, so disconnected the battery to kill, the engine. Cost me £80 I think it was for an auto locksmith to take about 30 seconds to pull the door pin up and get in!
  20. Quite a few of you guys from the States popping up here recently, welcome! In truth, VW Vortex or TheCorradoClubofCanada are probably your best bet for finding out where to source parts over the pond. Stick around here though, we're a friendly bunch!
  21. Gents, very kind words thank you. It's certainly never going to be concourse, or even a show winner, I do however see a light at the end of the tunnel albeit very dim still. Rob, you have nothing to worry about mate, all that's done so far will be interior and out of sight under the bonnet. It's still a bit tatty on the exterior, which is where you'll show mine what it's all about! I'll be booking the full body respray in the next two months though hopefully, so maybe by the end of the year I'll have a good un' on the outside too! Over next winter will be head rebuild/replacement, and front and rear axle and underside refirb, and then it's replacing the chopped up wiring looms for uncut ones hopefully. All good plans get scuppered but something unaccounted for though as we know, so I'm not sticking to that plan fastideously. That seems like a massive and expensive list, but most of that is already budgeted for which helps. It's kind of strange that I'll then be in a position (provided I don't have any major snags) where things really don't need doing, and it be just finicky little jobs that are mostly personal preference................ Maybe it'll be time to sell up and start again with a new one but go forced induction then!:norty::cuckoo:
  22. Bit more done yesterday. Picked up powdercoated bits then set about getting everything back together ready to go in. Almost there now, just need to check a few photos which were on my old phone and didn't have it with me. Also started on the interior. Stripped and prepped most of it ready for recolour, and coloured the acoustic carpet that will make up the new parcel shelf. A few pics. Should get a bit more done Friday and maybe monday. Fingers crossed all goes to plan!
