Does look in good knick, and can't imagine shipping to be too cheap from Poland, but jeez.........

Does it warm up whilst sat idling, then go cold again when cruising? How is your coolant temp on the display? Could be a duff thermostat......

Just re-read that and think you're right Matt. Best bet would be to Jack it a little as you say mate. Just taking up a little bit of the bushes tension will give you enough like I said earlier. :thumbleft:

Handbreak tunnel problem, not the normal plastic cover probs.
seanl82 replied to st4stokie's topic in Drivetrain
It would be obvious if the bracket welds failed. It would stop clicking after only a couple of clicks, but you'd be able to pull it up quite far further. It would feel obvious too mate. -
I just stood on one end at a time with my toes, and managed to get a couple of turns on with my fingers. Once both sides are done like that you'll have no bother mate.

Care to elaborate/link in said item David!?

Fired up for the first time tonight, unfortunately the missus turned up stressed out with the kids just at that point, so had to leave it. All is not well though. Vagcom scanned before first start with fuel pump relay pulled. All seemed well. Turned over a few times to build oil pressure and everything seemed good. Started up after that but sounds like it's running on about three cylinders Also have an unknown water leak but that's probably just a hose clip not secured properly somewhere. I scanned again whilst running, and it came up with wiring fault, but I didn't write down the code. I'll change coil and leads tomorrow for the originals to rule them out, and go from there. :(

John Hurdy on Golfgtiforum has done his mk6 R with uprated turbo, wmi, remap, and DSG remap, weight reductions, and is pushing 500 bhp. His is doing 11 sec quarter miles and 0-62 times of around 2.5 seconds. Unreal! He's spent around 12k on upgrades, although he bought it at 18 months old with 8k miles for 12k less than new price. I know which one I'd rather have!

I saw this but couldn't link it in on my phone. I'm sure they are available cheaper than this from Heritage!

I'll have the fog if uncracked please Rod! If you have the other side uncracked I'm after one of those too....

Haha, just repeated what has already been said really! Should read posts before replying.

The oil is simply for attracting tiny particles of dirt that are airborne, and could be missed by the filter itself. To that end, oil the air side ONLY. Remember, this oil kills MAFs pretty regularly, so stick well clear of oiling that side mate.

Elsecar mega meet + uk rallye golf show 2014
seanl82 replied to macvwnut's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Understood, fair enough. I think with the Rallye they're out of reach for the vast majority of those with I'll judgement, and being so rare, there's a stigma attached to messing with them too much unless it's of the highest standard. They seem to stay in tight circles now too so only pass from one enthusiast to another that have been around the various forums for a while. -
Thanks again gents. There are a few bits I'm less than happy with, but I'm trying not to get carried away. Had a few hours last night, so should be ready for first fire up tomorrow! Need to attach drive shafts and downpipe to mani, fill the cooling system and attach rad hoses, then fingers crossed all is well! I'll scan it before firing anyway. Had a bit of a mare and sheared half of the starter motor/earth securing bolt putting the nut on, but think I've saved it. Bought a few of the little bits that need refreshing as well. New door strikers as the nylon straps had disintegrated, some caliper paint to touch up in a few places before 288 conversion later this year, a knackered set of dials. Hoping this will, fix my spoiler not going up at speed. It goes up on the button though, so will chop these about with my current set if it works. If not, they only cost me £3.01 anyway! Lol. I've also got some plastic film and tigerseal. I'm gonna attempt to redo my door membranes using the old split ones as templates when I move onto the interior. Oh, and a set of Lupo wiper arms and blades to finally go on. I've never really been keen on the shape of them, and think they stick out like a sore thumb when on, but it's a kind of necessity now. Original ones are actually quite dangerous so until a better alternative is found, these will have to do. A couple more pics.

Is other motorists "checking out" the Corrado ?

Elsecar mega meet + uk rallye golf show 2014

Two phrases; 'Don't try and fix it if it's not broken', and 'you can't improve on perfection!' Ok we've all made a few mods, but I think the reason most prefer the relatively standard look, is that it really doesn't need changing. Personally I'm glad there aren't more daft bolt on body mods and garish paint jobs. That coupled with 18" bling rims and air ride, really doesn't do it for me. If the rest of the VW community want to do it, more fool them. Again that white one looks good and is different, but that seems more the owners vision for the car, not following like sheep that a lot of other VW owners seem to be within the "scene". -
60 + postage for a full six hose set zinc coated. £98 for SS, and a couple of quid more if you want a coloured sleeve.
-
Good work Matt! What's the plan for the front end then? Are you bringing the front axle up like the rear I take it?
-
So the cylinder problem turned out to be a dodgy lead.......... that's a he'll of a mark up for a set of leads and an MOT, lucky chap!

Where is the best place to order Corrado specific parts?
seanl82 replied to j_s14a's topic in General Car Chat
If your a CCGB Member they generally give you 10% discount. TPS are cheaper usually but for these I'd just go with who is nearest. I think I've lost one as it happens removing my interior, do you have a part number, or could you post one up when you order please. -
I've just had my engine out and inspected the chains whilst at it, although they were replaced circa 6k ago. Tensioner pads were like New, but as mentioned my top guide rail had snapped in half, with the middle (lower of the two) bolt securing part broken off. May well be due to over tightening imo. I didn't notice it at a glance with the top cover off, only when removing the lower cover as its obviously held in place by the chains. I'm pretty sure it's the cause of the increased engine noise I've experienced over the last couple of months, so I'd definitely recommend having a really good look around it if you have the chance. http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=79984&p=1020551&viewfull=1#post1020551

It'll be rusty and filthy again in six months though! I too have got carried away with, the wire wheel a few times! That and cleaning with petrol, which could pose a problem on start up............ Meh, I've got 30 litres of the stuff contaminated with diesel from the SECOND time the missus filled the TID up with petrol.

Please don't laugh, I didn't pass my test until I was 25 as the missus was preggers, so decided I needed to learn really! With that in mind, I missed the whole growing up first car thing, and didn't get into it properly until about four years ago. 1. Citroen AX GT. Bought off a family friend for £300 when I was 17, and was supposed to give me the incentive to learn to drive. Alas, it sat on my parents drive for over a year before my cousin bought it. 2. First driven car - mk3 Astra 1.6 Duo! It was a duo as it had twin airbags! Remember the wife was pregnant so needed a reasonable sized car that was cheap to insure for a first time driver! 3. Saab 9-3ss 2.0t Vector Sport. Only 9 months after passing my test, it was surprisingly very cheap to insure! MOT had shown the Astra to not be financially viable to keep on the road, so got this and really loved it! Unfortunately after 18 months, fuel prices rocketed, I had a heavy foot so fuel consumption was shocking, and the missus off work on maternity meant I was struggling to run it. 4. Pug 307 1.6 Rapier. I absolutely hated this car! Fault after fault, and shockingly poorly made. Lasted five months. 5. Mk5 Golf GTTDI 140. Great car and wish I'd kept it longer. Zero problems, but I was kind of getting bored again after 18 months, so sold it privately for the exact same price I bought it trade! 6. Mk2 Focus 1.6. Dull dull dull. Didn't like it so sold it to my sister six months later. 7. Mk3 Golf GTI 8v. I was in a real cushy job but the novelty soon wore off and I was bored. Saw this locally for £200 with no T&T but looked solid to me, so bought it as a project. Still had the focus at the time so wasn't needed for daily duties immediately. A few problems along the way, but I owe my knowledge to this car. Lots of tinkering and an engine swap, introduction to forums and their wealth of useful info, and local VW meets - which led to my love for the Corrado! 8. DBP Corrado 1.8 16v. As above, a white Corrado was following me from Plymouth to Exeter in convoy for a meet. That's where I fell in love really! Couldn't keep my eyes off the rear view mirror and 'had to have one!' As Sig, it was a great car and cemented my love. Unfortunately rear ended whilst Sat at lights 9 months later and written off. 9. Skoda Fabia 1.4 8v........... the missus had learnt to drive a year earlier, and had already had three accidents! So I put my NCB on the line and bought this, putting her on my insurance to try to keep costs down. Was a good wagon and served it's purpose very well, but was slower than an arthritic snail! 10. Current VR. After the valver I had to have another, and it had to be a VR! Read my members gallery if your interested. 11. Saab 9-3ss 1.9 tid. Really liked the first, unfortunately this hasn't lived up to its predecessor. Chuntering on though I suppose and at least now it's reasonably reliable. Had a few in between as stop gaps, mostly Corsas tbh as they're available in abundance, and easy to sell on afterward. Never lost a penny on one either. And that's that.
