Thing is mate, there are 17 year old lads that work for me who have more money than I do the day after pay day. (When the bills come out). I did have a very enjoyable time in my younger years too though! Unfortunately I'm paying for it now..........

Not tried to post a sale ad yet, but it takes ages to load the page if going through the shortcut, and pricing seems to be a little confused for some items? I agree in that they are very novel and quite fun for a short while, but other than basic cruise control which is good on a quiet motorway, I never feel as relaxed when driving with "aids". (No big A jokes!). I find I have to concentrate more and become hyper aware with these things, and just end up becoming more and more agitated that it doesn't do what I want to do, especially even with a small amount of road traffic. Driving is usually a pleasurable experience for me, and "toys" do nothing to enhance the driving experience.

Thanks chaps. Not as much work done as I'd hoped, and tps and the powdercoaters were both close Saturday so off to revisit them tomorrow. Gearbox will be cleaned again and painted up on Thursday, so when parts arrive it should be all hands to the pump to reassemble. We are away for a week from Friday, but should have a solid few days when we get back to work on it. A few pics. Doubt it'll all be processed and in my hand for a couple of months what with easter leave commencing on Friday, but this means that I will have more than enough left over after I've paid off my debts and booked a holiday, to book the car in for a full respray and all the exterior parts that are likely to need replacing etc, which has made me a very happy boy indeed! Pull the boot up and underneath is a simple spade connector. Simply push it onto the new sensor, and slide the boot back down the wire to keep it safe from the elements. Job done!

Daves16v does some nice shiny replacements if they're beyond salvaging. Have a look in the suppliers forum.

The Jap scene love all that jazz though! I was disappointed I have to admit. Looked a good example apart from the cooling system before. Looking forward to the 2CV next week though!

You can get the seals individually from Vw spares (avs) for less than two quid each too. I just bought a set.

Obsolete from dealer now. Best option is the hella ones. Available from oemparts for about £140.

Needs more than that now apparently mate! We let that house now, and the tenant has told us it's trashed so I'm replacing it when I go down there at the end of April.

Save it mate. Mine was in a far worse state than that (although no real rust) and it's not even a real Storm! The satisfaction come the end is worth it trust me. :thumbleft:

Oh dear! We're there any symptoms that it had broken like that? I noticed on my strip down that my top guide rail had snapped in two. The chains and the lot were replaced less than 6k ago too so not good. I have noticed over the last thousand miles or so that mine had become more noisy but put it down to a worn head. On the plus side, you caught it before serious damage occurred!

Thanks for the heads up mate, I'll do that then. I've got my crossmember, fan shroud, front skirt thing, and all the engine bay brackets (apart from the ones for earthing) to go in. Ive just painted my block this evening as well actually. Just the powdercoating and an order in to tps tomorrow too, and I should be ready for reassembly by next weekend hopefully. I get what you mean about spiralling costs though. There are a few additional bits I wish I could have done at the Same time, but I just need to draw a line. It's just aesthetics though and nothing difficult to do later down the line with the engine in situ.

There are repair kits for the flexible outer ring, but if it's the cone I think he's bang out of luck.
