I ordered a febi top guide rail last night. My genuine chain "kit" has been in about 6k miles and I noticed yesterday when I took the top cover off that the middle bolt hole had broken off, and the guide had snapped in two. Another part I hadn't banked on having to replace during the "clean up".

Is that for the pair then Joe?

Joe, do you have the part numbers for these if they are different please? Only one is shown on etka with part number 357 121 210. I'm pretty sure they are different is all. Cheers mate!

There are two pieces to the intake Ray, an upper and a lower. Little bit fiddly getting the bolts out but not too difficult. It's all monkey see monkey do. There are two metal gaskets, one between upper and lower, and one between lower and block. These are metal gaskets so provided they're not too corroded, a bit of gasket sealant will suffice. Either way they're not too expensive to replace and are quite readily available. There's a paper gasket for the throttle body though, which I'd recommend you replace if you take it off. As for the lower part, you can't remove it without removing the injector rail, but it can't really be seen when everything is in place, so I'd just do the upper if your not going balls out mate.

But turtle wax is silicon based, so attracts dirt anyway rather than repel it with good beading like a good quality paste wax. The key is to ensure you have a good clean surface prior to waxing anyway. Any scratches inflicted by paste wax are outnumbered by the wash process which will inflict more scratches on a car that attracts dirt.:smug:

I'd be interested in beige too. I'd say £200 is the max I'd want to pay, provided it was very good quality and fit.

Is it definitely the isv and not the aux water pump (look similar). The aux water pump remains on after switching off for a period to continue the cool down process. Isv usually buzzes for a couple of seconds on switch on, then quietens down.

I concur. I don't believe people can continue to be part of what is quite a close knit community if they're dishonest. Name and shame Rob, like you said they had their opportunity when you tried contacting them numerous times. Bad seller thread should only be used in rare instances when all other avenues have been exhausted, but if it's justified then everyone should be made aware.

Mk 3 Golf items are all completely different I believe.

I doubt they're still available New from the dealer, so other than going aftermarket the only real option is to clean up the cowling as much as you can, and get it powdercoated. Funnily enough, I stripped mine down today and like you, the plastic rings surrounding the fans broke at the clips. I'm gonna try securing it as best I can, but I'm not sure they're essential other than as a guide anyway. I'll be getting my cowling coated as well, although mine is in pretty reasonable shape. I got my rad from oemparts which was a Behr/hella item. This is as good as you'll get as they are obsolete now from the dealer. It looks a well made item though.

Got to agree with Jamie on this. Granted I've not owned one, but those are the reasons why I don't want to.

I'd find a place locally that will mix it up for you tbh. Colour match online or from Halfords will never likely be great. I found a place where I used to live that did it all in house. He came out with a ton of Vw paint swabs and matched it to the car, then went in and mixed it while I waited. I've used paints4u on a couple of instances, one a good match, one not so good. Hope this helps.
