How much are they direct from Classic parts though, as thats where Heritage get their supply from. Maybe the price is dictated by them...........

Wow, that was quick considering how much it was listed for! I don't doubt that at least a couple of grand was knocked off it, but that's still a huge price! Just goes to show there are people out there willing to pay top prices for the right car!

SeanJaymos dropped to 295mm from centre Hub to bottom of arch when it settled. If you have a look on his members gallery the new buyer posted a pic of them side by side. They have different markings on them but not sure if that's definitive, as I have the same markings on mine as his originals, and I haven't suffered that problem. Mine sit 330mm at the back.

Change the 109 relay, it'll rule it out for very little outlay. The fundamentals need to be checked first though. Drain and renew fuel with fresh as suggested. Then check to see if you're getting fuel to the cylinders by removing the plugs after cranking, and you should smell fuel and see the spark plugs are wet. If that all looks good, are you getting spark? with the plugs removed, earth the threaded part of the plug on the block, and turn the car over. Do this at each plug. If you're getting a strong spark, its probably an electrical problem. If not, work your way back with leads, coilpack, or ECU. Its a process of elimination in some cases unfortunately, as the primitive On Board Diagnostics don't give a whole lot of options in some cases. Where are you based? I'm sure someone local would be willing to give you a hand if you ask nicely, and they may even have vagcom to scan it if you don't.

Jon, yeah you can powdercoat them, but they're just plain metal straps without the curvature in the middle of the stock ones. If you go down this route it just seems a little pointless by not getting your original ones done unless they are too far gone. Rob, sorry mate, no I'm not honestly! I did think about getting some myself, but they're quite visible and obvious when approaching from the rear, so I personally wanted it to remain a little more stock looking. :thumbleft:

There are a few that do stainless tank straps and they're quite well priced if thats the kind of thing you want (A little bling for me tbh). Unless the ones you can get look identical to the originals, I doubt there would be much interest to be honest mate.

Hey Megan, they are indeed the brackets that lift the trim when the Sunroof is in the tilt position. Not sure you'll be able to reattach them without removing the whole cassette though. There should be springs on the bottom too. Have a search as I'm sure there are pics somewhere of how they attach.

yeah its very common on all VW's of this era. The studs that the handbrake bolt to are attached to a plate, that has spot welds in the four corners. The front two welds fail after time due to stress of pulling it up so often. A couple of new spot welds and all should be good again.

Just testing the replacement new aftermarket isv (which is also useless) and a guy comes over saying what a beautiful car, with the usual "don't see many about these days". Says he always admires it when he walks past. Seemed knowledgeable about cars and new a bit about the VR6 and how he'd always wanted one. Also asked a few questions about the BMC. Apparently a guy approached a work colleague on Thursday too asking if he knew who owned it, and enquired if I'd think of selling! He's apparently gonna stop by next week to talk about it. - No, not unless the price is too good to refuse!

If you do find a reasonable price set mate, just bare in mind they differ slightly from early/late cars if you didn't know. The early ones have a lip around the lock barrel where as the later ones are more flush.

I think a bit of thinners on a sponge would get it back eventually Rob. You could try to rub it down a little bit first, but just be careful you don't damage the slightly textured plastic.

Wow, really sorry to hear about such an experience. I didn't even know they did mechanical work, I thought they were just suppliers. I bought my VT mounts from them about 18 months ago, and they seemed very friendly on the phone (not sure who it was I spoke to), and they did me a cracking deal so I was pretty happy. Obviously times change and you can never take things at face value which is such a shame.

I've got an embroidered set for best too. I think the quality is pretty good thanks. Much better than the brand new BMW ones Ives recently bought anyway, as the old ones had a hole in after 4 years and 60k. I have a printed script set I use normally, and a rubber set in the shed but they obviously hold water and look dirty all the time so I don't like them.

It's a pain in the arse Rog! I put 4 litres through it the other week and still wasn't happy. Paid a garage to do it and Mot it, but it came back exactly the same as before, but with a fresh ticket. Think it may have been because I'd been driving the Bimmer for a while but I could have sworn they were better before!

Blue/white wire is for us market, to do with increase volume/speed control iirc. Don't connect it, it'll stop your spoiler raising at speed Chris.
