Evening all, please see link for a load of parts I need to get rid of. Preferential prices on some items for forum members, and I'll do bundles and combined postage for anything that you fancy. :thumbleft: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/seanl-2007/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=

Apparently the black ones are prone to failing too. Heard a few reports of the pressure relief valve in failing to open causing a build up and much bigger problems. The blue one was supposed to replace it due to this.
-
Yeah this is similar to the one I have. Works a treat!

Good effort and thanks for sharing! It's always good to find this sort of thing out as I'm sure lots of other parts are shared with VAG group cars of similar vintage, especially as its like this are becoming nigh on impossible to find. It's all well and good DIYing some things but always preferable to replace with original parts. :thumbleft:

Certainly sounds electrical. Start with checking all plugs are seated in the fuse box properly and the retaining bar is pushed home. Also check ECU pins and plug to ensure nothing is amiss, and give it a good vast over with electrical contact cleaner. Could also be an earth problem so check all points and straps are intact, and give em a wire brush and blast with wd 40. I assume it's cranking ok?

I agree with the last comment on that thread. It's not like we need to travel mega miles in the UK, even to most major shows. Also with the advent of the 'internet', it's pretty easy to just whip your phone out and call a mobile tyre fitter for side of the road assistance, or use the space saver to get you to the nearest shop. One thing I will say though, tyres are supposed to have a 5 year shelf life. How long has your spare been on that rim in the boot for!?
-
Ah thats fair enough. I'm hoping to go to a few shows this year. I'm registered for the Corrado display at VW Festival but its hard to plan too far in advance unfortunately.

You'll need to do the entire system, a vacuum pump is recommended as the cars are notoriously difficult to bleed. Ensure you do the pump as well (bleed nipples on the top) and the master cylinder last. Just open the bleed nipple on the master cylinder and let it drain out by gravity mate.

Alright Rog, inlaws are coming here now so no. Probably be down around February though mate, I'll let you know. :thumbleft:

Cheers Rob, how you doing Theo! :thumbleft: All good here mate. I didn't get to drive it far, about 1/4 mile from the garage to the drive! It was a bit lumpy at idle but revved fine, so I gave it a very quick blast and all seemed fine! Fuel is probably a bit stale though as well so hopefully a fresh tank full of Super and a good long run and she'll be singing! :)
-
Sounds like you've been busy Theo, taking it to the next level as always! Sounds like you had a bit of a mare bleeding the brakes too, I feel your pain! Got it all to do again when I change the rear beam hoses and put the mk4 calipers on. Not looking forward to that! Glad your keeping hold of it too, LCR looks good though!

Pretty sure its the 1st Jan mate.

Well, 10 months later and the car is coming back out! I've had to bring the car home because I need to give up the garage, and due to the fact I've accumulated so much crap I'm gonna have to sell a few bits as I don't have the space to store them, so standby for a few sale threads. Car was running rough when I bought it home, and a quick VCDS scan threw up MAF and ISV. Car ran better as soon as I unplugged the MAF, so I took it out and gave it a thorough blasting with electrical contact cleaner and went over the element with a cotton bud. A good blast through the ISV with carb cleaner, all left to dry out a bit and the running issues are now solved. No more fault codes anyway, but I may get spares of both just in case. MOT expires today too and I need a couple of tyres for that. The ball joints and track rod ends were advisories last year and I've had them since a week after the last one, but didn't get around to fitting them before I left so I'll get that done pre-MOT too. Still have the Bilstein B12 Kit and the Mk4 rear calipers to fit which will probably wait until Easter now, or at least when its a little drier outside. Thats all for now, hopefully a few more updates in the coming months! :thumbleft:

Got to be better than the rubbish plastic one too!

Don't think there is anything as far as the shift cables go, but you may be able to replace the bushes to tighten it up. The shift tower from a mk4 and the selector mechanism from a Polo have been used to good effect, so google that to find some of the old related threads. I've not done either so can't elaborate on which year cars they came from and can't remember sorry. All reports as far as I'm aware have been positive from those that have done it though. Edit: You can use the mk 4 cables too.
-
Where are you located? I have front and rear door cards and a load of trim pieces in black, but not seats.
-
I've not seen that low. I've seen 6.5 but most seem to list it as 6.9 which I don't think is too far off the mark.
-
I'd recommend getting the stainless fixings rather than zinc plated too. I've heard the zinc ones corrode quite quickly if the car is being used regularly in wet conditions, so worth spending a the little bit more if you can.
-
Don't mean to hijack the thread, but can anyone recommend a place that can do custom hoses? I have the 288 front and mk4 rear braided hoses but I bought them both desperately. I now need the rear beam flexis making up as I don't think they're sold separately. Also, what are the fitting type if anyone knows off the top of their head? Thanks all!
-
Ian (Gloucesterox) offers that service on here, cheaper too! :thumbleft: Edit: Ian's are zinc plated, but still come out like New and a great service. :)

That seller has changed his ebay username a few times too. I know to look at the location, and last time it was due to a bout of negative feedback. Its a bit hit and miss with them tbh, sometimes prices are fair, others not so much.

Mere Christmas and I hope Santa empties his sack for everyone!
-
Alright buddy, sorry I didn't reply previously I've just seen it, but glad you've got to the bottom of your problem. Its a relatively cheap and easy fix at least!
-
That's correct, its just a potentiometer i believe.

I sold my spare a few days ago and can't find it on vagcat so don't know the part number sorry. Its located on the brake servo directly under the master cylinder. Its possible to refurbish them too as its usually the electrical contacts that break internally, that is if you're comfortable pulling it apart as its bonded together. Also, the VR6 I sold at the beginning of the year had the 2+2 connector and it communicated with vagcom ok.
