Quality - One persons stupidity = anothers laughter
Yandards replied to vwdubs's topic in General Car Chat
Ah it's little things like this remind me how lucky I am not to be completely stupid. :D (Well not all of the time anyway) -
Stealth RR DVD - Poll Updated (Price of DVD, etc)
Yandards replied to G60Jet's topic in General Car Chat
Stick me down for one too, especially with Jim's cover it's awesome. Dinkus first of all PMSL everytime I look at 'Aye Carumba!' Next it was cold and wet under your car but it soon warmed up :norty: -
Hi and welcome. Either the G60, VR6 and to some extent the 16v can be costly to both repair and run. The newest corrado will be over 10 years old now and as you are mostly looking at motorway miles then a 16v could be a possibility. You need to look at getting a charger rebuild around every 50k or so to keep them in good condition and thats going to set you back about £300ish a pop. VR's are a bit less maintenance and some (Forum Admin Andi's) are still on there original set of timing chains with over 200k on the clock although this is probably not recommended. Have a look at the buying guide, try to get a drive of a few to see what you like (VR/G60 loads of torque and lazy, 16v goes well when you keep it above 4k) 16v does share same power plant as earlier golf gti's so bits are a touch cheaper and more available than spares for a VR or G60 from a scrappy.

Yup just another day on the Great British roads by the sounds of things..

White 2505 I agree with many of your points about driver complacency and skill fade. Too many road users in this country forget that driving is a skill that needs to be practiced and continuously improved upon. However, I still believe that many of the political policies, some of which are forced upon the police and some embraced, are flawed. Any system of law enforcement that gives the front line officers targets will results in an excessive and often disproportionate number of individuals prosecuted that would normally have been given a quick talking to and sent on their way. Speed, sorry safety, camera partnerships are a prime example of this - as they are self funding many motorists are prosecuted who previously would have had a caution. This entire situation is furthur inflammed, as the government continue to extract extortianate taxes from road users and to let the condition of the infrastructure decline. I am not going to deny they are not breaking the law but what ever happended to the 'speed appropriate to the conditions' caveat? For me the issue here is not about the law enforcement aspect of ANPR cameras; it is to ensure that as they role out congestion charging across the country there will not be any 'easy' way to get around it.

Redlimit for a valver is around 7400rpm so all the valver clocks should go to 8k. In yet another twist I plan on using the original VW RHD early gauge pod that I got from blue-joe at the weekend (Cheers sam) and having a crack at making one from aluminium when I get chance, anyone interested in that instead? Nick I am not keen on the e-bay ones it just looks a bit nasty IMO.

next 911 turbo to use 'variable turbine geometry'
Yandards replied to chrishill's topic in General Car Chat
Nice, I think the technology is also referred to as a progressive turbo? -
Best bet would be to try and get a drive of cars with both setups. I am running Konis and H&Rs now but had coilovers on before and didn't like them; but it is all down to personal preference. Budget for new top mounts as part of the work as well and I think you might new spring discs depending on when your VR was made but I am sure someone can fill in that blank for me.

In that case then I won't bother, cheers Kev. :D

G60 power steering pumps are different to the 16v or others due to the outlet being located on the back but facing up not straight out. Part no:037 145 157BX This is a whopping £300 from VAG and you will need your old one for an exchange as well. As far as I can tell the pumps are a not LHD/RHD specific its the pipe work etc that is but you already have that. Definataly worth changing the fluid first though to see if it cures it and also look to see that the reserviour has enough fluid in it to start with. If you do change the fluid make sure you only use the VW stuff as the crap you get in Halfords does some nasty things to the PAS pump.

Another thing to look it would be your flexi hoses. If they are original they will be over 12 years old now and way past their best. Would be a good idea to change them for a set of braided hoses and that should give you some more feel back in the pedal. But be aware that you are looking at a 12 year old system and aside from wear on the hoses there is also wear on all the rubber components within the braking system. I have replaced all the seals on my calipers and fitted flexi hoses and the brakes are firm and progressive. Only thing I have not changed/renewed the seals on is the master cylinder and I keep thinking about doing that too.

I bet you wish you could do this in your corrado!
Yandards replied to PhatVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Damn that looks like fun. :notworthy: Probably get the bloody fuzz appearing out of no-where if you did it in this country though :( :nono: -
Sorry guys as Mr Ots has already pointed out, when you 'buy' a private or personal plate from the DVLA you mearly become the registered keeper. No-one in this country 'owns' a private plate they all belong to DVLA and we lease them. If we break the conditions of the lease by not following the requirements to display the correct type of number plate, then they can take the reg mark back. Got to agree with MM as well, this is all just part of a long term strategy to ensure that they can start adding extra black boxes etc to your car so they know where you are, who you are and how quickly you got there :(
-
Yeah and you will need to find a member of the your local law enforcment before they can nick you for it. This is pretty lame by shoving it through under 'anti-terror' measures when in reality all they want to do is stop people dodging congestion charges. Mind you safety cameras aren't a revenue generator either :x

Damn that looks messy. Another one to walk away from though which is only a good thing.

Probably been done, but whats the worst bit of a C to clean?
Yandards replied to Yandards's topic in General Car Chat
I think its just a compact version of the home water softening kits you can get, you could always get one of those fitted instead  -
Just plain bonkers but what an achievement
-
Yeah but VW being VW you can't just order the plastic teflony bit with the slit in it for fitting you need to order the whole pin - but they are not too criminal at around £2.69 each. Part no is 357 837 034.

When will it end? Man killed by thieves in his OWN car!
Yandards replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
The lack of a Darwinian style of existence is really helping people like this to breed. That's the problem with politics these days and why most people are fed up with it; an active minority has more influence than the law abiding majority. :( -
The biggest difference between a mk 2 and a 'rado is the level of refinement. The 'rado is a much higher spec as standard and I find mine a lot more comfortable for a trip whilst driving than when a passenger in my mates mk 2. It's also a lot quieter and even with standard suspension has less body roll than both the 16v and 8v Gti goofs. As for your conversion I am currently building a 1.8 16v G60 and you will need to look at upgrading driveshafts, brakes and probably suspension before you even start on the engine. Best person to talk to is 16vG60 on here or have a good read of the yahoo usergroup.

Nice one Nick, 2cc and myself were still putting a Triumph back together at that time yesterday! (And for another 4 hours after that too)

and a bit lighter too I have found when comparing some of the pistons I have. A good set of custom pistons is the way to go although you could try that C&C head company that were on here the other day for some advice.

Most classic car insurers are about as worried about mods as normal insurers. Again my GT6 has a wide selection of non-factory bits, some because it makes it easy to run and more reliable; others because you can't get OE anymore. As long as you declare them then they are not too worried. Tempest as well as Coventry the reason your car is way up there to insure is because insurers hate imports with a passion.
-
Ironically it is easy to get a selection of lightened/alloy flywheels from the states where there are fewer 'rados running around. There is not a lot of point doing this unless it is part of a package of engine modifications or you are going to get everything balanced.
