  1. no need to stick to 205s for winters Wendy, you should find a lot more choice in 195s i think (as you do for summers often too)
  2. Other way around, Mr. Boost monkey! :dorky: 190kw ~= 250hp I'm afraid not, my Scandinavian friend. My 1.8 16v engine is 140hp or 100kW. 1 horsepower = 0.745699872 kilowatts from the Google.[/quote:1ukgm232] yes, but you were still wrong the first time oh simian one :)

    Tyre Stretch

when you say which company, are you talking about tyre fitters? if so surely you're best off just having a word with any local fitters near you and seeing how they are with it? i dont suppose you'd get a straight answer out of any of the national firms unless you spoke to the branch direct..
  4. i would think 2-2-5 is plenty mate
  5. not sure why Ollie is saying that, the 6-line kit for the late Golf Vr6 is exactly what you need (normally £70ish) but if you just want the fronts then DGs kit is your alternative yes.
  6. but thats the thing, there shouldn't be any palava about it?? my brother in law just had to pay around a grand for the belt and a couple of other bits to be changed at 70k on his audi allroad (and not at audi either). so, to check chains at say 80k and change them (on average lets say) every 120k sounds like perfectly reasonable effort vs maybe changing a belt every 60k. if it costs £5-600 (excl the clutch) i dont see that being any different to say £300 for a garage to change the belt on an old car twice as often? i dont see what people make a fuss about - its really a non-issue to the extent that your car needs maintaining at sensible intervals and if you dont do that then you run the risk of it breaking. its only a topic of discussion because for the last few years most of the corrados out there have been reaching the mileage where it should be done. i was sceptical about the thread at the beginning because anyone buying a VR should already have taken everything thats been said here into account. all it does is to make people think its a problem for VRs when really its just normal maintenance.
  7. Is the spacer relevant to this question though? You only put them on TTs to get the rear centre cap on right? The calculator in my head says these will sit 1-2mm further out than non-spaced TTs, ie. not noticeable.
  8. So few people ever have (or report) chain failure that I don't think you're going to get much from this thread. If you're after a recommendation as to when to check or change them it's been covered many many times already.
  9. They'll sit almost the same as your TTs so go for it!
  10. I did ask Neil to see if this was still valid and he was going to check but given that it was not for cars over 16 years old he didnt think it was going to be covering many corrados any more anyway.
  11. its actually been being discussed for a few hours already this evening and both those ideas, among others, have been suggested, so you may see some developments before too long. cheers for the suggestions.
  12. ah, I'm still on standard rear calipers - that must be the difference? hmmm, was about to put some mk4s on too..
  13. i would just add an additional point to be careful to specify the condition of the parts you are after so you can call people out afterwards if something's not as it should be. i think its often easy to imagine that people will have the same opinion as you about what's good nick and therefore will be an improvement to your car, but all too often it happens that something you assume will be of a reasonable quality then isnt. for the money you can waste, buying new from VW almost seems like a better option sometimes.
  14. yup, all fine for me Kev?
  15. Yes they do! Are you confusing yourself with the fact that you said the spare didnt fit over them Kev?

    ..

thats a broken link to a show pic mate?
  17. yup, 57.1 across the range - you should be all good.
  18. Great news Paul, hope you're happy with the end result!
  19. not sure where you might have seen a Corrado on 225 tyres before? anyway, all the information you should need is in the tyre thread here
  20. when you say its never had a heater matrix what do you mean? the 2 flanged pipes that stick through are part of the matrix itself so if they are there then the matrix is there. you've basically answered your own question but if the coolant pipes have just been connected together then the matrix has clearly failed and the previous owner just couldn't be arsed to fix it. you bypass the hoses to keep the car running otherwise all your coolant will end up around your feet rather than in the engine.
  21. i'm a bit confused, surely it was Vettel that was crying like a girl over team radio?! :)
  22. hardly much information to go on! what makes it feel scary? is it in a straight line, round corners, over bumps etc etc. but in general, no, it should feel pretty solid.
  23. no idea :) just cant see how they can say you're partly liable and therefore say you've lost your ncb until they've somehow settled with the other ins co?
  24. if the claim is still open then how can they say that you've lost your no claims until a final agreement is reached? i would be having a proper go at flux to say that until they sort out your claim then your circumstances are no different to when the policy started last year.
  25. hmmm, just when its the first time i have a full tank for weeks..
