  1. It really is sweet as a nut. no chain or tappet noise improved oil pressure (new pump). Its silky smooth 8) . I am not 100% sure that it is a raceland (might be an OBX) but it looks identical. As for the noise its no louder than before. Has changed the sound slightly with a bit more of a v6 style rumble. Just need to save for a supercharger
  2. Have you scanned with vagcom for errors? also if try swapping leads with one of the other guys.
  3. Nice one Rob! cant wait to see the results!!
  4. I had the same as you full head rebuild (3 angle valve seats and a little porting;)) chains clutch and new oil pump also had my 6 branch fitted. I have had the car back now just over two weeks and it hasn't missed a beat. Mine's done 154k and the bottom end is fine so you shouldn't have a problem there chap.
  5. Cheese but with tuna mayo .... what a combo! 8)
  6. Could well be worn engine mounts. Which hoses have gone?
  7. I am sure I ve read somewhere that its got a 3.9 Final drive. Does anyone know anywhere online to find the ratios?
  8. Are we not talking about the V5 box though not the four cylinder.
  9. Welcome. Umm a good few "real" improvements I would do while still maintaining the standard stance is: - the lupo wipers (although I believe there are now retro aero wipers out which is alot cheaper), - Uprated head light loom, - Later golf MkIII 288mm front brake upgrade, - BMC CDA air filter, - All read rear lights, - Clear/smoked side repeaters.
  10. I am sure I ve read somewhere on here that the box should fit fine. I believe the v5 box also has a shorter final drive. Not to sure about the signal for the clocks though.
  11. safe bill, just waiting on oil feed bits then its ready to map i hear you got THE rims... gotta see yours now I saw this at Stealth last weekend after picking mine up. Should be awesome when finished.
  12. Nice one Rob! Hopefully all will go well. So am I right in saying that this has its own oil supply? Be interested in your results as I am looking to supercharge mine next year with a rotrex.
  13. mines at stealth as we speak having the chains, clutch and head rebuilt. I am also using the Mkiv top pad and tensioner. As for head gasket, standard if your supercharging it (thats what i am going for). I am also having the oil pump replaced as mine has done 154k. Thought it was best to change it, after all it is the heart of the engine!
  14. Cheers. Changed a little from the top photos though it's now on 17" bbs rx rims and the eyebrow spoilers gone. I 'll get some fresh pic's once it's back.
  15. Haven t updated this for a while so thought i'd add a quick update. Well first of all I ve had a load of parts in the garage for ages; 6 branch, clutch chains oil cooler etc etc. So after my radiator sprang a leak I though it was the ideal time to fit a few of the above. First of all I replaced the non gen rad with a new gen rad (quality is miles better). That was straight forward enough. Also fitted the guven ally crack pipe(old one was really brittle and fragile). Next was the mocal oil cooler .... bit of pain trying to source a metal end cap to fit the shorter banjo bolt. After ordering a few parts form vag I simply gave up and extended the tread on the original bolt and cut it down to the required length. Next red silicone hoses .... fitted Umm then came to fit the rad ..... ment for a golf not a corrado ... cheers Jimmi !!!! Top hose has the wrong angle Bottom hose crimps up While the car was at this stage I thought i'd check the condition of the top pad and guide. Top gide is fine pad is clearly worn (154K) I fitted all back together with a new top tensioner ... only for a bit of dirt to block the oil hole resulting in the chain jumping a few teeth .... o bugger (my fault really :( ) O well u live and learn. So book the car in to stealth for head and chains etc. Seeing as i am probably looking at a few bent valves (happened at idle, but still..) Brought a second hand head, stripped it had it cleaned valves cleaned and refaced 12 new guides and stem seels also had a little work carried out 3 angle valve seats port matched inlet manifolds big bore throttle body (with enlarged butter fly valve) and had the 6 branch ported to the gasket. Head returned: Cleaned the inlet up with the air grinder and a lick of paint. Wrapped the manifold and sprayed in high temp paint (not shown in this pic) Dropped the sump, cleaned ready for a new oil pump to be fitted. Fitted new fuel lines to replace nackered return line: Ready to be towed to stealth: Dropped it off this morning should have it back by next weekend. Cant wait as its been off the road for 4 weeks already!!
  16. Man thats sweat as! What mine would look like if I had the ££.
  17. Yeah thats right, it will flow from the top hose but then just top the expansion tank up.
  18. I used the Thermotec Copper wrap 1"x50 and 1"x15. Get loads of ties think I used 20 in total. Also its best to coat the wrap with the thermotec high temp seal spray, something I am yet to do but will do when I get it back from the machine shop, (slight porting work), before it's fitted.
  19. Yep tyres size doesnt matter as its pounds square inch. Although with very low side walls a slightly lower pressure may be more comfortable
  20. I get this problem it opens fine(somethimes have to open back before it will lift). but 70% of the time doesn't want to close with the button
  21. tonytiger - Big thanks for posting the cylinder head so quickly and refunding a few bob on the postage. Top man!
  22. I removed the original cooler and simply used a hose from the crack pipe to the block. Also be careful as the plastic crack pipe is delicate to say the least. I'd recommend replacing the plastic crack pipe with an aluminium one from guvern.

    What Oil

Hmm, just found an old thread .. looks like opieoils' sale finished yesterday .. ! :( You're right, £38 for an oilchange is *much* more reasonable, particularly, as you say, for decent oil. But bulk buying isn't something I fancy .. (small house; and low annual mileage means I won't use it for years). Unless anyone else in the Reading area wants to do a group buy? Don't worry they'll have another along soon. probably this weekend lol
