I'd go with a dead lambda sensor... That'd make the car run rich which would explain your petrol smell and black smoke on start up... :?
-
well, after 7 months of being up on axle stands and being bone dry, now that the car is 90% completed, I've got a wet passenger rear footwell... Damn... I'm soooo glad that this thread exists... ;) 8)
-
yup, it's width in inches... 8)
-
usually does, it just confuses the control unit and stops it from sending the auto up and down signals...
-
yes, you should be able to pop the bonnet open from underneath using a long bar or screwdriver to get at the release mechanisms... 8)
-
I've gone throught 1 MOT with the G60 and 3 with my old 16V and neither ever failed... 8)
-
BIG thanks go to G60>Storm... Just picked my new leather interior up from him... Exactly as described, and came with paperwork for the door builds and a repair to the zip in the rear seat! 8)
-
I did my headlining with Autoglym interior shampoo (from halfords on their 2 for 1! ;) ) and it's come up like new... 8) I did do it while it wasn't in the car though, which helped!

The speed sensor wire for the stereo in a Corrado is blue with a white tracer... Don't be too suprised if your spoiler stops working automatically once you've connected it up though... :? Most people just tape this wire up and keep it well out of the way as it tends to be more hassle than it's worth... ;)

take your time, and tighten the head bolts as recommended by VW ... Go easy, nice and smooth when you're putting the final 2x90 degree turns on the bolts, and you should be fine... 8)
-
So that's how they fit... 8) I never could work it out on mine (wrong type of bonnet!) Looks good... 8)

Sounds like a wheel bearing to me.... (and having just driven 400 miles with one that's dodgy on my golf, I know the noise rather well now!  ) Loss of wheel weights makes the steering wheel (and often the whole car!) shake at speed and feel like something's about to fall off... wheel bearings rumble like a constant droaning noise that gets into your skull and tries to make your brain melt...

that's http://www.gpcvwaudi.com ;) 8) You could also change it for a Passat rear one if you've got a local breakers yard that's got an 88-92 model Passat in it. That gets rid of the keyhole so that would be theives are confused by it... 8) Use the search and put in "Passat AND handle" for more info... 8)

I'm afraid I'm gonna have to lock this thread as we cannot be seen to condone Software piracy on the forum... :| I'm sure that someone may be able to help you, or PM you with any suggestions for where you can buy a copy. Thanks

Much fun... That's basically the engine conversion I wanna do to my MKI GTI when I rebuild it.... ;) Loadsa grunt with very little lag in a car that no-one will suspect of being that quick... 8) Lotsa laughs.... ;)

YAY! someone who's in my school of thought for tuning... 8) Torque is well helped by balancing the input and output pressures... If the gasses can get into the engine nice and cool and quickly, and then the burnt waste get out as easily, you'll get some nice increases (hence gas-flowing and porting)... Capacity helps (size IS important! ;) ) and having a nicely balanced, lightened and setup bottom end is helpful too.... 8) How far are you willing to go to get your torque? Getting high BHP figures is easy, just sling a small pulley onto a G60 and rev the life outta it will do that... but it'll cost you when the bottom end bearings and supercharger give up 'cos they've not been spec'ed for that kinda punishment.... (there's a couple of members here who are finding that out at the moment! :? ) Torque from idle up to a decent redline needs a series of well planned mods, some of which include gearbox mods to make sure that your box ratios match the power band of your engine... ;) As for top 5 mods? I dunno.... I set out on my project with the specific aim of stump-pulling torque from WAY low down on the rev counter, so I've lost count of the mods I've done to get this achieved.... ;) Having the map written for torque not BHP figures helps a lot (ask H100VW, or G-man who's just bought his old G60 golf) ;) Hope this helps, although it doesn't actually entirely answering the question you asked... :? Keep an eye out on my members gallery to see if my plan pays off and I get the torque curves I want once my new engine is bedded in.. 8)

Oooh, that's nice... 8) hmmm, I've got 2 sets of clocks in bits on my dining table at the moment.... time to play! ;)
-
change the rotor arm and dizzy cap and see if that helps... Also check the earth strap from the battery to the chassis and then to the gearbox... if this has gone green then it needs replacing... :?

I don't think that the DVLA do, but the old MOTs will have the information on them, and you should be able to get these from the garage which supplied them... Also ask at your local VAG dealer and they'll let you know it's service history, what milage it was last serviced by them at (about 60K by the sounds of things) and more importantly when that last service was due... ;) That's how I confirmed that my car had been clocked, and roughly when it had been done... from there it was pretty easy to work out what the correct milage was... 8) Has your mate got a copy of the advert he used to sell the car when it had 150k on it? That'd help too! ;)
-
get the sod!!! Having bought a car that's been clocked, it's not a nice experience... If you can prove that the milage is wrong, tell the trading standards people ASAP and they should do something about it... 8)

What's the law on removing the indicator from a UK wing?
Henny replied to biggerbigben's topic in Exterior
Is that legal? I thought there was an area (height from floor and distance from edge of car) that they had to be... surely at the top of the windscreen is well outside this area? :? -
Very, very, very nice photos there... Wanna do some of mine if you're ever in the area? ;) yes, I know it's a long way to travel to take some photos of my motor, but if you're ever passing! ;)

Henny replied to biggerbigben's topic in Exterior
Hummmmmm, no indicators, therefore not fit to pass an MOT, therefore insurance is invalid... :| Likelyhood of an accident increased by lack of indicators + invalid insurance = stupid thing to do really if you're gonna use that car on the road... -
Oooh, Abt's... bet they weren't cheap and I'd also bet they're nice and light too... 8) they're a stunning wheel... 8)

If you've bought a car that's been clocked, report it to the police AND to trading standards ASAP. You've only got a certain ammount of time for comebacks (21days IIRC) after buying something.... If it's someone selling one, tell trading standards and they should be able to do something about it... 8)
