  1. I took the seats out today and hoovered the cabin, then shampooed the carpet and all the seats, trying to remove the smell of the car, as it's very stale..... it did sit about unused for 12 years. Cleans up ok though , gave it a good blast of Fabreeze, also cleaned and conditioned the gearstick gator. The reverse light has also packed in, fuse/bulb etc are all fine so I'll change the switch on the gearbox and hope that sorts it
  2. And they have arrived, many thanks again mate 8)
  3. Ha ha, we only bought off them once as Goldie was in the states so he could bring a few bonnet cables back with him. They didn't want to ship internationally. We get the cables from a different source now :)
  4. Best things for me, the looks(smile factor), the driving position, the sound, the fact it's not a boring box with wheels. Things to look out for. RUST, windscreen area, fuel cap area, sills, bottom of A pillars, far more important than engine related gremlins
  5. I've got 4 vr's at home mate, I'll look later but I doubt any have the alteration done as I think I'd have spotted it.......but you never know? Fairly sure if you fit a new one you won't have to worry about it popping any time soon
  6. Glad you are happy with it mate :)
  7. It's a doddle, happy to help you if you pop over :)
  8. Had the same issues here before, there is a branch literally 5 mins from my work, 10 mins from the house and they just won't serve me. Then, if I drive to the other side of the city there is a branch that will(used to anyway). I wonder if the forum could set up a trade account with them that anyone in the country could use? Would be very handy :)
  9. Yes mate, I will PM you details :)
  10. I certainly do mate, I'll PM you details:)
  11. So, I got the 16v back from the garage, with a wee list of jobs I needed to do myself, so as I was off today, got stuck in. 1. Passenger door handle repair, luckily I had this from a previous time All sorted and working great, well done daves16v 2. Change the wipers to Lupo gti onescas the standard ones are very poor indeed , dead easy , stole the wipers off the twilight vr hiding in the garage:lol: Also put a little bumper gel onto the very faded windscreen trim 3. Investigate the leak at the top of the radiator.......turned out to be dead, luckily enough I had a vague memory of buying one for my old valver years ago.....quick rummage in the loft found it, delivered to me mid June 2008!!! That's proper hoarding:lol: Picture of the old one New one in and all seems well, no leaks.......yet :) 4. Fit a stereo, mmmm, found no speakers in the front door cards and the wiring is missing/hiding. Also found some strange wiring at the plugs for the said radio, no pictures as I gave up at that point because the stereo didn't work, I'll look at the fuse tomorrow
  12. Thanks mate, I appreciate that . Should be ok though as I have a parts car here ...... got a more pressing issue developing anyway
  13. That's the plan but I was just fixing what I thought was a leaky jubilee at the top of the radiator, the wee return hose. But it seems the rad is leaking behind the big top hose, seems to be coming out around the area where the black locating pin thingy goes........off to price a radiator now
  14. I've never had an early one before so unsure of lots of bits at the moment. It certainly looked like I was the first one in there, also the foam on the back of the card is complete as is the membrane without any evidence of wires ever having been there. I think they might be inside the door but I've put the card back on for just now......I'll re investigate if the rear speakers don't work/are missing:)
  15. I had the door card off the passenger side of my early 16v today, to fix the broken door handle and there is no speaker in the space for one, also looks like there has never been one and I can't see any wiring for it either? Is this normal? I'm about to fit a stereo and I guess I'm heading for a disappointment:lol:
  16. It needs to be 2x drivers sides on the lupo wipers, can't be sure about the TT ones, although I do have both set ups out in the garage somewhere. I will have a look tomorrow night and see if I can find relevant part numbers if anyone wants
  17. No mate, it's just that I have been round at Diarmaid's raiding his goodies that he is now (reluctantly) selling off. Just to me so far as his inlaws stay just round the corner and he's not exactly local
  18. Not at all mate, it's all your doing
  19. Obviously not surprised to see you've sold mate but as many have said it's sad to see you go. I'm sure you will hang around as this is by far the friendliest forum I've ever been on. I bet that after you've had a decent break from actually owning one, you'll spot one and be reminded why you used to like them so much. You may never own one again......but you might :)

Nice one, I'll try and remove one(I have a couple of spare tailgates) in good order, the clips at the back never survive removal so you(and I) might find it's stuck on

Ha ha, no, I don't have one , but I have thought about it before, so if you fancy getting rid, I may well be the guy, could swap a standard one if you like? Or buy it if you decide to sell :) Where are you in the country anyway?
