20vt? :D does the 2.0 16v have a MAF? if so it might be worth checking that out. My only other thoughts are an ECU problem or a dodgy relay. When its lumpy and dropping a cylinder do you hear a 'click' coming from the fusebox area?

nah, their cheapo range does the job just fine, just takes an age to heat up. you'd be suprised how many times you'll use it too. I bought mine for one job and its seen a fair bit of hot solder on solder action since.

shouldnt matter if its not the same colour, and buy a b&q solder kit, they're about a fiver!

I'm that used to finding info on the internet now I forget about simply picking up the phone and asking! once I find out I'll let you know what the score is once and for all.
