my g60 finally started on it. bare shell rebuild.
16VG60 replied to blenkj's topic in Members Gallery
I have a carbon roof on my Corrado which I fitted back in May this year. My car was fitted with a sunroof previously and I can tell you the weight saving is 27kg. Well worth having if of course you intend to do as I have done and strip out the interior and go for light weight alternative components. As an aside are you going to fit a headlining to reduce interior noise? If you are I have two OEM non sunroof headlinings to offer. -
Not driven as yet Yan, I am still waiting for my JE pistons and block to be sorted. Hopefully this will be with me by week Monday in time to rebuild and install. First out will be for the Goodwood breakfast club meet on 7th November. Will give you guys some feed back on the drive changes after this.

I am in the process of converting my hubs to take comp' spec' wheel studs in place of the standard bolts. In so doing am wanting to achieve all the obvious benefits this brings, but also to reduce unsprung weight by using Alluminium or Titanium wheel nuts. My dilema is, search as hard as i am, i can not find a supplier for M14x1.5 closed or open ended alloy nuts. I could have steel items by the bucket load, or M12x1.5 alloy nuts which clearly won't fit. Can any of you guys help me in my quest for a set of lightweight M14x1.5 wheel nuts, i can't believe these items do not exist :?

Refering back to a question posed earlier on this thread pertaining to the fitment of a Quaife LSD into CTN box. It was believed to be possible, but nobody seems to have written any detail to confirm this as yet. As i have just finished sorting my box i can confirm it is all entirely possible. I have fitted the internals, including the shift tower, of the CTN box into my CBA and retained my Quaife. Conversely i could have just transfered my Quaife into the CTN box, but would need to remove the green extended output flange seal housings, and fitted seals direct to the casing, to make possible the fitment of CBA spring loaded output drive flanges. This conversion was childs play to carry out, the only ass ache being drilling out the CTN diff gear retaining rivets. I hope this compliments all the hard work fed into this and other gearbox related treads.

I am reading with interest all your comments on 280mm rear brake upgrade onto the Corrado. I first carried out this modification to my own 16VG60 about 6 years ago, owing to the need for both the front and rear brakes to generate suffficiently greater effect with the engine mods in place. I have since this time fitted many of these conversions to various Dubs utilising the same stub axle configuration. I hear what you say about the taper bearings and how some of you would prefer cartridge units, but in my experience if good quality genuine parts are used and correctly fitted they present no problems. In order to utilize the later bearings one needs to fit the later style stub axle which involves some much greater engineering. Sadly this is not just a bolt on gesture. I did consider this as an option but this would make the conversion too pricey and beyond alot of enthusiast DIY mechanics ability when it came to workshop facilities to fit. Also the gains of all this work i deemed to be unecessary given that the OE bearings are plenty good enough. Originally it was necessary to have 17" rims as minimum wheel fittment in order to accomodate this conversion, but i have since carried out further redevelopement work to allow 16" rims to be used. I prefer to fit the kits at my workshops because this way i can ensure the conversion encompasses all aspects of works required in order for the client to get the best results. Given that the youngest Corrado is now 13 years old it is often the case that this conversion also requires a complete rear beam re-furb. This having been said i have supplied kits for DIY fitment. If any of you would like to make this your next mod i would be happy to supply works as required for your individual needs.

If you are still wanting to locate a cage for your Corrado, then you could call Richard at Venom Motorsport. Richard has a Wiechers alloy bolt in full cage with door bars, in stock, and furthermore he is very keen to clear it from stock.

Your problem will most likely be that your voltage reulator on your alternator is faulty. Check the output of your alternator at the batery terminals with a voltmeter the reading should not exceed 14V max. The cure will be to fit a new alternator, or if you can access the part a new voltage regulator. Beware however that it is likely that there may be other deffective areas in your alternator and replacement of the whole unit is the best bet in the long term.

A common cause of oil loss in the area indicated by your picture is the oil pressure sensors, mounted on the top of the filter mount, leaking through the lucar electrical connector at the top of each sensor. Clearly you will need to check all the other oil related joints and gaskets as a process of elimination ie oil filter, filter mount. oil cooler, sump gasket etc. It helps to thoroughly clean the area, dry it off and then observe whilst engine running for the leak. Not the most excuiiting diagnostic process but it usually yields a result.

I have retro fitted a number of late Corrados with brake cooling ducts, and can confirm that any concern VW may have held over this fittment is unfounded. If you experience any difficulty in obtaining one of these let me know and i should be able to offer assistance.
-
All early pre 1992 model year Corrados were fitted with brake cooling ducts to both nearside and offside front. Your car being a 1991 car should have cooling ducts therefore on both sides. The cooling ducts were deleted from the specification on post 1992 model year Corrados due to concerns over damage to the ABS brake system, which was added to all 92 model year production.

Kevin, Thankyou for your comment. If you read what i have said and not what you choose to interpret you will find that i am only too happy to accept freedom of speech. I was meerly expressing my freedom to do likewise, and suggest that one person's experience was not the cause for slighting the whole product. My comment was made to calm the situation and to reassure, Dan and others that this condition is not terminal and a simple conversation with me would bring about a resolution. I am not threatened at all by any persons comments in any way whatsover, moreover just concerned that all those with whom i have done business should get the best i can offer.

Out of all the numerous sales i have made with regard to Milltek systems, in all this time i have only had two systems display faults with fracturing. In all i have seen warranty issues with only 4 of my customers all of which have been dealt with efficiently and respectfully to a satisfactory conclusion. It is human nature to dwell upon the negative, because we somehow find it to be more news worthy and sensational, but lets not loose sight of the bigger picture which shows, in my first hand experience, this product to have given hundreds of owners a very satisfactory result. I hear what you guys have to say in this thread and fully respect the need to discuss such matters freely but can we resist the temptation to condem, based upon on the strength of one persons experience. Clearly we are all going to have our individual allegences to particular products, the world would be a very boring place if we all chose to do the same. I do not profess Milltek to be the the only option, but it is one of the top brands and well respected worldwide for good reason. DAN please do give me a call as i am the person with whom you need to discuss your problem. Indeed in the light of your concern i would like to offer you a replacement system inclusive of free fitting, i would hope that this will relieve not only your concerns for the life of your system but also the inconvenience of of your apparent travel costs. I look forward to hearing from you.

Atn: G60 Corrado owners (don't know about the others)
16VG60 replied to Tempest's topic in Engine Bay
This is a common fault with the fuel lines on our now rather older Coupes, and i have been replacing these on my customers Corrados for a good two years now. The ends of the rubber hoses perish and crack internally along the length of the hose, this in turn allows fuel to weep from the hose irespective of how much one tightens the hose onto the conector. Do not be tempted to cut back the hoses thinking that you have resolved the problem as this only serves to put extra strain on the hose due to lack of length and the cracking will reoccur. The problem usually starts with the owner reporting the smell of fuel being apparent. The fault is not easily allways detected at this stage as so small is the fuel loss it evaporates instantly. If unattended to, this fuel loss becomes more profound and fuel will be observed leaking out onto the manifolds!! My advice is not to wait for any signs of the problem but to replace these hoses now. The dealer items are not cheap but are the best fitting and have benefitted from being made now from a different compound of rubber. These hoses have to follow some very sharp bends so i have my reservsations over using unshaped replacements. -
It is with great sadnes that for the first time ever in some 25 years of dealing with VW enthusiasts, that i have had a fellow enthusiast and Corrado owner stop a cheque in respect to a part sold by me in good faith. The only conclusion of this persons actions is that this was their intention from the start. Stopping a cheque is a calculated course of action as opposed to insufficient funds. The part was a brand new Reiger 2 slat grille and eyebrow sold for £60 at Stonor Park meet last weekend. Clearly Mr E. BAXHAKU wished only to pay his bank for the stoppage fee, making for him a real good bargain! If you are the perpetrator of this deed and reading this thread i hope you enjoy the fruits of your dishonesty and revel in the breaking of an unwritten code of conduct amongst enthusiasts. I am not grieving the loss of £60, but moreover the errosion of a trust enjoyed for many years. A sad day indeed.

I have been selling my JMR solid alloy front mounts for about a year now and they have been widely and well received by all, both on and off the forum. I have had one fitted to my 16VG60 for all this time, and a little longer besides, and have not seen any signs of deterioration whatsoever. Given the torque output of my engine, and the fact that it destroyed a Vibratech mount i would suggest that JMR mounts are up to the job and thoroughly tried and tested. I personally have not experienced any undue vibration from my own car as a result of this mount, and i know this is also the case with the vast majority of my customers. I continue to sell these mounts as fast i can replenesh stock, so this allone tells me that they are a valid and well thought of component when a replacement is required. The asking price of £70 (plus £5 P&P for mail order) i feel is both fair and offers exceptional value for money, especially when the other options are twice as much! Fitting of JMR front mounts is simplicity itself and indeed made all the more easy through being a far less bulky item than the OEM mount, a deffinate plus point when you consider how crowded the G60 engine bay is in this area. I wellcome all enquiries on this subject and am happy to offer assistance with fitting instructions.

Car: Corrado 16VG60 Exhaust: Milltek Custom built with twin exit rear tailpipes on Custom rear bumper, JMR ported and flowed 16V OEM cast exhaust manifold and JMR HiFlo Stainless Steel front pipe. System fits well, compliments engine breathing superbly, Affords my Corrado uniquely different styling at the rear, and sounds great. I have found Milltek to be extremely professional and capable company who give 100% of themselves to every aspect of their product and customer / supplier relations, and back up this dedication by offering a lifetime warranty on all their products.
