  1. You should have asked when you were here, I had a spare pair
  2. No, there was never a Corrado moonroof - some other cars of similar age have interchangeable cassettes, but the roof panels are specific to each car. None of the ones I've seen on Corrados fit very well, they all sit a little proud in the middle. Stock and fully working is just as good :) Stone
  3. Looks like it fell in a blender
  4. I picked up a Golf/Passat/New Beetle one at a car show for use after my respray, it's one base that includes radio, carphone and GPS antennas if you feel like upgrading your headunit in future. AKA a triplex antenna. Part number is 1J0 035 507: I'm going to use the stubby antenna off a Sharan with it (7M0 035 849 E): Beware that the triplex base has an M6 antenna thread instead of the M5 one on the stock antenna so you'll need a newer element to make it fit. I have a spare stock length antenna if you want it, I'm using this shorter one I found on a Mk3 Polo in a scrapyard. Looks a bit neater! Stone
  5. I've got one, no good to me as it won't fit with a 24V sump. I'll give it a clean and stick it through your letterbox on Monday :)
  6. Late stock-looking Flash Red C parked up on the outskirts of St Albans just now. Possibly M* KKG? Nice to see one locally for a change :) Stone

Got a cracked 70mm one (I think...it's at the back of the garage, need to measure) someone can have for nowt if they come and get it? M1 J9. Stone
  8. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?&_nkw=mk2+golf+armour ? Stone
  9. GSF do quite cheap ones too, think it was around £95 when I picked one up a while back. Ended up taking it back for a refund as I got a second-hand one to work but it was comforting to know you could still get one without getting rinsed by VW! Stone
  10. I replaced mine with standard speed nuts with no issues. Got a bag of 50 in assorted sizes from my local hardware place for £2! I think we may be overthinking this...;) Stone
  11. I believe if you disconnect it then the light will stay on and you'll (obviously) have no ABS. Brakes will still work. Should have double-checked this while I had it out the other day but I forgot! Once you've removed the three socket-head bolts holding it onto the side of the footwell, rotate the shiny metal catch up and back (in the direction of the harness) to unplug the connector all at once - the rocking arm makes sure you have it seated correctly and don't bend any pins as you remove it. Worth checking for corrosion on the pins if it's not obviously full of water, it's pretty exposed down there and the harness is huge! Stone
  12. Are you sure you have the door card fitted correctly? If they're protruding slightly (maybe the front yellow-galvanised bracket is catching on the speaker pod/window switch wiring?) then the trims won't clip in. I've never pulled on the handles to refit them, mine just slide into place if you keep pressure on them as you slide them - but they may be knackered! Slide towards the hinge to remove and towards the B-pillar to refit. Stone
  13. Anybody got any pics with smoothed underseal to contrast against skirts, then? Is it just a thick layer of filler? Stone
  14. It's not just you two. Part of the point of getting in early on a group buy is to get the item, of course, but the tradeoff for potentially getting it earlier than you need it is that you're helping other owners out by having the parts available. I was willing to get a screen because I know mine will be replaced sometime this year as part of my respray, not because I need it right now - it will just take up space in my living room until I fit it. Roose Motorsport are a good example of how it usually works - the first x orders got a decent discount and now if you want to buy a set of VR6 hoses then they already have the tooling so they can do you a set whenever you need one, at a slightly higher cost than the group buy price. If they're not going to use the group buy as a set of guaranteed sales to justify making the tooling, then what's the point? Stone
  15. Couldn't find any when fitting 312s to mine (ordered mk4 items but they don't fit...) so just left them off. Haven't noticed any difference!
  16. I installed a small stopcock on my (aluminium) crack pipe and do it from there, with a bit of hose to drop it into the bucket. VW advise draining it from the crack pipe petcock and aim the flow away from the subframe by twisting the crack pipe  Don't do this, you'll snap it at the water pump end...
  17. The Autoglym silicone hose wipes are just the bird-poo wipes in a different box! Warm soapy water and a microfibre cloth for me, it'll get filthy but a good scrubbing's the only way to get the crud off without weakening the hoses. I sprayed all my plastics with a black Krylon-style paint for plastics - it soaks into the surface almost like a dye and comes up with a great matte finish. Stone
  18. You're a year late! It's mine now...all mine :D Stone
  19. 5A is way over for a single LED bulb, does it really need 60+W?! I'd swap it for a 1A fuse (or 2A, if the 1A one blows). They don't need much power to run, that LED probably failed short...the board's current limit will be less than the fuse rating, allowing it to get hotter and hotter. Remember a 5A fuse is rated to continuously supply 5A, not to blow at 5A! The trip current is a good bit higher... Stone
  20. That's user error though! I drive a VR6 auto and fuel consumption is very heavily dependent on how you drive it. I've eked 37mpg out of it in the past and equally driven it so hard it returned 15mpg! It will always be a little worse than the manuals as the auto box only has four gears - cruising at 70mph you'll be doing around 2900rpm and the throttle response will be a little on the soggy side. On the other hand, dropping to third lets you take off like a scalded cat :D I average around 27mpg (motorway commute + smaller roads at either end) total - sounds a bit thirsty, but it's better than a mate's 2005 Fiesta! As for Sport mode, some of the early cars (non-VR6) had a Sport/Normal mode switch on the gearshift surround, but the ECU for the VR6's box determines whether you want to be in sport mode by how violently you kick the pedal and whether you're pressing the kickdown switch at the end of its travel. Accelerate gently in 4th and it will stay in 4th, accelerate a bit more enthusastically and it'll drop to 3rd, slam the pedal to the end of its travel and hit the kickdown switch and you'll end up in 2nd! The power delivery's much smoother with less gears (in Sport mode 2nd can take you from 15-80mph!) and the box is still faster than manual changes so you can drive it as a semi-auto if you like by doing the changes manually. Bear in mind you'll put quite a lot of wear on the shifter mech by doing this - I had to replace the whole unit because the previous owner drove like this! There's really nothing wrong with the auto at all, some benefits (especially in traffic jams and while reversing!) and some drawbacks (noticed most if you only do motorway cruising) but no "massive drawbacks". Make sure you change the fluid immediately after buying it, they'll all be running low by now and it will cure any rev-in-neutral-then-slam-into-gear issues. Plus there are only 50 left according to the DVLA so you're buying a more exclusive edition than the Storm ;) Stone
  21. I suspected they tried to tighten them (or remove and refit to space them out if they were adjacent) and they were too badly damaged to take it. They're not only trustworthy but a hell of a lot better than some of the other garages I've visited. The head guy used to race a Mk3 VR6 so knows what's what :)
  22. Pretty sure those are the wrong part! You want 3A0 867 301: Ben's clips are for the later door card style without external visible fixings - pretty sure my Lupo had them, but I'm quite confident even the late Corrados didn't use them. If that number's obsolete, you can try parts from a Mk3 Golf - for the side clips (the right-angle ones that the self-tapping door screws screw into) the Golf part 321 867 299B is a direct replacement for the discontinued Corrado version 535 867 299B. Best, Stone
  23. Finally got a chance to do some digging through ETKA at the dealership and ordered some Mk3 Golf bits on the offchance. They fit! You can use 321 867 299 B "clip" as an alternative to the obsolete Corrado part - they're nearly identical but made from uncoloured / white nylon instead of the black plastic used on the originals. I can finally stop my door cards flapping about!
  24. Bin it, one more thing to go wrong ;) One bit of hose from inlet elbow to valve cover, another from vacuum feed by throttle body to the carbon canister valve on the strut tower. Easy peasy.
