  1. If its a Mk1 or Mk2 manual it will be correct for your car. To be honest I would just replace the one that needs replacing.
  2. That is the costly/nice way to do it, so you don't have to worry for a long time in the future. If your rear discs are in good condition, you can remove the bearings and put new ones in. A lot of care must be taken when pressing the outer races in. You must not scratch them at all, or chances are you will be replacing them again soon. If you are sure only one bearing has gone, I would replace that one. They are only about £5 from gsf or Euro. Be very careful to adjust the bearing correctly. What Haynes manual do you have, most watercooled vws untill recently had the same rear wheel bearings.
  3. Your not getting shot of the Porsche wheels are you???
  4. Things I've considered as possibilities for making the noise are: 1. Shock absorber 2. Spring 3. Engine mount (Engine moving when going over bump) 4. Backlash in driveshaft (when the car is jacked up, you can turn the wheel backwards and forwards and get a similar noise) 5. Backlash in transmission (same note as in item 4) 6. Suspension bushes (all of which have been replaced) 7. Track control arm inner or outer joints (no noticable play on mine) 8. Steering rack (no play evident) 9. Steering rack mounts (Again no play evident) 10. Wheel bearing (none of the usual signs of wear to wheel bearings are there) 11. Brake pads rattling (had this before and it is a different sound) My car just went straight through its mot which gives more support to my finding no play in any suspension bushes, joints or wheel bearings. What I need to try is applying power when it does it, if it stops it then it looks like transmision backlash, the load from the engine takes up the free play, when you brake you isolate the transmission from wheel speed changes.
  5. Mine has a similar problem, a metalic clank from what appears to be the nearside front suspension. I have noticed gently applying the brakes stops it happening. Which to me suggests a wheel bearing, but there is no rumbling normaly asscoiated with damaged bearings and no free play. Mine has had new wishbone bushes, anti roll bar bushes, top mounts and lower swivel joints. There is no apparent play anywhere. I'd be interested to know if applying the brakes on other peoples cars stops the noise. By the way mine is not making the click click noise CV joints make, and it happens in a straight line.
  6. Car: 2.0 16v Exhaust: Magnex cat back with oval tail pipe Opinion: Very nicely made, does not fit perfectly, but better than some other aftermarket exhausts I've had. I don't particularly like the exhaust note, too Mk1 Escort for me, its quite raspy and echoey, but some of my mates really like the sound, so thats just my personal opinion. If I had to replace it I would go for a standard one. Whilst writing my post Mr Beige posted his and he likes the raspy note - Definately a personal opinion thing.
  7. Riley, Looks really good with Porsche wheels, I read you have 195/45 tyres. These are 16" aren't they? Are all 4 wheels the same width, or are the rears wider? Your car is making me seriously consider not selling mine and getting Porsche wheels on it...
  8. Maybe mine are one offs, but the warmer they get the less bite they have.
  9. I've not had any problems at all with my zimmerman drilled discs, but I'm not that impressed with Pagid FR pads though.
  10. You gain more torque at lower revs with the smaller inlet, because it is smaller the gas flows at a higher rate. But yes at higher revs you can lose out, depends on the characteristics you want from the engine.
  11. Carbs are another alternative as in e-bay link by Baz2004. Should be cheaper than throttle body injection setup. Although likely to be more hassle and less economical from a fuel consumption point of view. People do get good power running k-jet though.
  12. I have done it in the past on several cars, with no major performance change. Lots of noise which some people love and others hate. If you love it and it makes your car more enjoyable for you, then go for it and enjoy the induction noise. My air box is totally sealed except for a large pipe ducting cold air from behind the grill, which made a very small difference to performance, with pretty much standard noise levels.
  13. Yeah I came up with around £1500 for diy throttle bodies when I was considering it. I'm sure that could easily move nearer to £2000 as the project progressed.
  14. Have a look at this thread for some more reading. on tuning 16v engines. http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=
  15. I agree with flusted's comments. Mine is a 2.0 16v, I tried Schrick 268/276 cams cams and it was pretty hopeless to be honest, although others have got around 200 bhp with them! Mine makes 162 bhp with 1800 spec cams (The exhaust cam is the same on 1.8 or 2.0 engines). I put new injectors in mine, which livened things up a little too.
  16. Yep, just spray it that colour, otherwise you have to do the engine bay or live with it being the wrong colour.
  17. Good power, more bhp, but less torque than mine. That would make an interesting race! By the way I expect thats at the flywheel. Mine was about 130bhp at the wheels, 162bhp at the flywheel
  18. Come and have a look at mine. I'll be at GTI international on Saturday in it. See link in my signature for more details.
  19. There is, I'll have a look over the weekend for the link.
  20. As much as I like the idea, I doubt it would be successful and I would not spend that much. Maybe a brand new version with updated but related styling to the original, as with the Beetle and Mini. Now there is a photoshop challenge for someone clever, what would a new version look like??
  21. Definately, shut it away for a while and enjoy yourself. Once you have it sorted which you almost have, all the aggravation will be forgotten. My valver is 100% reliable and everything works perfectly on it, I'll swap it for yours if you like!
  22. Sounds fair, I used to work in a very good bodyshop, to do a proper job takes a lot of hard work, care and skill which takes years to pick up. I was thinking around £100 per panel as I read your post - £400, so £475 is not much more than I expected.
  23. Yep thats Grant Motorsport. The bloke is called Grantly though!!
  24. Also have a look at this thread for some opinions on tuning 16v engines. http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=
  25. I would speak to Bill Brockbank aka Badger Bill, his company supplies throttle bodies and loads more. http://www.badger-5.com Phone: +44 (0)1453 827936 Fax: +44 (0)8700 561360 Email: mailto:[email protected] There is some info on his web-site, but they arn't cheap!
