  1. They mainly tend to rust where the 2 tank halves are joint, hence the phenomenon observed by quite a few Rocco folk, that the tank leaks until it's about 1/4 empty again, that's roughly when the fuel level has dropped to just below the seam  Othet than that Roccos are great little cars, I love my 2, still think the Mk1 was just sheer heaven on earth :-) The car industry never managed to make something like that again, especially not nowadays with all those non-descript CAD-designed rustbuckets (well, OK, they may not all rust anymore, although I'd wish that quite a few did, to get those eye-sores out of the way ). 2. Exactly, how many times have I already been nearly cut-up badly by some idiot with no lane control, having to slam the brakes just when you wanted to have some fun. Flyovers instead of roundabouts at junctions, very much like motorway junctions on the continent is the way forward (expensive, but keeps traffic flying if you're in the right car, that excludes almost 98% of the population then ) Too true, I hate to admit that even in our company delivery van (even though it's my own company) I thrash the van, as it gives me no joy whatsoever, and somehow I don't care about it either, knowing full well that we're buggered if it does go wrong  Tempest
  3. Busy at work, so I'm a bit late, but everything's already been said ;-) £1000 sounds like a lot given current rock-bottom prices for Mk2s (tend to more and more be abused as daily drivers, get Golfs for that, folks, cherish a Rocco!). I'd always recommend the injected engines, but a 1990s Rocco is most likely going to be the carb'ed GT2, still not bad, but can cause probs in winter time, and generally if the carb suddenly starts to misbehave. You can still get hold of aftermarket tuning parts as well :-) if you know the right people :-), e.g. smoked or clear indicators, grille spoilers, and more general stuff like coil-overs (same as for Mk1 Golfs). Back to work I go ... Tempest
  4. Tempest

    Verdict?

Just can see a set of In.Pro tail lights, smoked and clear  Tempest
  5. *scrape* *clunk* *arrrgghhh!!* Tempest
  6. and roundabouts. We need more flyovers  I once got stuck in Coventry in a road with loads of speed bumps whilst in my Mk1 Rocco  That was NOT nice. I took my time navigating across every single one, trying as best as I could to ignore the pile of useless rustbuckets containing slightly agitated drivers (or car dimwits, judging by what they were driving) behind me  Tempest
  7. That was the best bit, I thought, apart from some other bits. Tempest
  8. Still hoping for Steve's link via GSF Car Parts, not all is lost ;-) Tempest
  9. Thanks Jim for the offer, but I already have a K&N panel filter in my Rado (almost 1.5 years by now, no noise increase noticed, but then again, my US-spec Rado seems overly well sound-proofed ). It's just that on the German forum folks increasingly are saying that given the delicacy of the G-Lader scroll it's best to use maximum filtration elements (that definitely rules out conical filters), hence the choice of a VAG oem filter element to avoid turning your scroll into a look-a-like of the moon's surface. In NA engines it doesn't matter that much, but with G-Lader'ed engines it's the G-Lader that needs protecting. See also Darren's comment above, also favouring the oem paper filter. Tempest
  10. The E-mark just means that the lights have been approved for legal use anywhere in the EU. It does not mean that they are specifically LHD or RHD. In the UK we therefore need RHD lights with an E-Mark, as the kick-up pattern is different to LHD lights (otherwise we'd be blinding oncoming traffic - yes, you can use black stickies, gets you through the MOT but the police can still pull you). I would assume that whoever is going to make these lights is aware of the requirement for RHD lights for the UK market. Tempest
  11. Timing sounds like it's out. The previous owner of my US-Rado also had a strange problem, in that the Rado juddered at around 2500 and again at 3000 rpm, took it to several garages, had dizzy arm and rotor, ignition leads, coil and so on replaced, problem was still there, when I bought it. I changed the oxygen sensor, the blue temp sensor, and ultimately after having checked the timing marks were all OK, reset the timing (was 6° retarded !!!). That finally solved the problem, oh and loads of dodgy GND-wires, that I completely replaced. Tempest
  12. That or a similar concept has already been discussed in the German AA mag, that I'm subscribed to. The problem is that although the police and governments may find it attractive, apart from old fart drivers, I for one, hjate to give up yet even more of my already limited freedom in our so-called western ultra-commercial society. I quite like to decide where I steer my Rado to myself, thank you, not some sh*tty microcontroller. Tempest
  13. The title says it all: I'd like to hear your opinions on this topic, especially from the G-Lader overhaul brigade (Darren, PSD etc.), as on the German Corradoforum that I visit, a debate has recently been started due to which I'm very unsure now whether it was a wise thing to use a K&N panel filter in my G60 air filter box (yes, I do service the filter every year) as opposed to the VAG oem disposable paper filter element (not talking about conical filters and such like  they should be fairly obvious by now as very G-Lader unfriendly  ). I don't want the scroll inside my G-Lader to look like the moon's surface after having used a K&N panel filter for too long. Tempest
  14. Very sad, I know, but all my 3 Karmann Coupes have names: The Mk1 Rocco is called Roodster (Dutch for Red Star), because of the star-shaped airbrush pattern on the bonnet; that was my Mum's idea, BTW  The Mk2 Storm Rocco is called Stürmchen, German for little storm, as I grew fond of him quite quickly :D The US-Spec G60 Rado is called Innocence because of the Alpinewhite colour  So there you have it, get the men in white to pick me up now  Tempest
  15. Correct, as on the US ones it's exactly the opposite way around (also see Bentley): Black is feed, blue is return ;-) Tempest
  16. Yup, that issue's been on sale for some time, I of course spotted the Mk1 Rocco on the cover straight away  Tempest
  17. £170 now, as I found out when I renewed the road tax on my Mk2 Storm 2 days ago. It has been in Gordon's budget 2005, which, of course, I had forgotten Tempest
  18. Sticky brakes, since you mentioned that the Rado hadn't been moved for some time. Same with mine, as I hardly drive my Rado. Tempest
  19. Personally can recommend using the VAG originals for the rear mounts and use a Vibra-Technics front mount. I've done all my mounts last autumn. Tempest
  20. He probably meant the 80s, as in 1980s  They were cool, Roccos, Rados, ahhh .... compare that to today
  21. ABD parts are sold in the UK by Impossible Performance. I already got a few bits and bobs from them in the past, eg. short shift kits for my 2 Roccos etc. Their website is http://www.impossible-performance.cwc.net Tempest
  22. A German mate of mine, has an Audi Coupe 2.3 5 cylinder, not the TQ, sporting 136 PS (=bhp give or take). He had the same reservations about its handling, having come from a Rado (which he still has), i.e. that its handling would be crap, but was pleasantly surprised. Although by comparison to his Rado it feels a bit like a boat at times, it does tackle high speed cornering quite well. In approx. 3 weeks I will be able to confirm that, as I'll be going over to visit him. Things that tend to go wrong (as my business colleague also has an Audi, albeit the meatier S4 estate, vroooommm :-) ): Clutch cylinder, gearbox (my German mate's has started to whine), windscreen wiper motor, power steering pump, door handles/locks (now that sounds familiar, doesn't it?). In all, the Audi seems a lot better built than our Rados, no rattle sounds inside, the sunroof opens quietly  Note the S2-subtleties, although it's not a real S2, folks  Tempest
  23. Of course it was designed by Giorgio Giugiaro, the same guy who deigned my 1st love affair, the Mk1 Rocco, hence some similarities in the C-pillar section :-) Tempest
  24. Now try imagining having 3 gorgeous Karmann coupes; couldn't get rid of a single one anymore  Nah, everytime I drve someone else's Vectra, Focus or other modern rubbish, it just doesn't do it for me, those cars leave no emotional impression on me. I have to admit I haven't driven a modern Golf yet, though, so hope that's different. Good luck! Tempest
