  1. So if you want to go for stock for footwells Front Bottom layer x2 grey cell in each footwell (four all together) Partnumber: 321 863 863 https://www.volkswagen-classic-parts.de/en/daempfung-5600c3.html Middle layer 18-20 mm depth insulation Top rubber layer with adhesive backing layer 2mm depth Part number 323 863 950 Rear footwell Same as above but without the bottom grey cell layer. Glue them all together and you have a stock sound absorber.
  2. This is the grey cell like material I have in the front foot well that is glued to the floor pan. You can still get them . Mine are fully intact so no need for them. They only came in the front footwells from factory. https://www.volkswagen-classic-parts.de/en/daempfung-5600c3.html
  3. Did you template the old stock insulation ones you got out the car mate ? Think you have to do this as the stock ones have different depths to go round the floor pan pattern. Mine is the OEM carpet chap so not to worried about.
  4. Hi, Please may I ask what is the white push rod above the battery that is located on top of the wing inside the engine bay, I see it has a cable attached to underneath. Must be some type of switch to indicate the bonnet is open or closed ? Its basically in front of the power steering reservoir. Thanks
  5. Great the Heritage stuff should work fine then if doubled up (deluxe set) If you're looking for a 2mm sound absorber to get that little bit extra, I looked at the Corrado part number and this is what is has been superseded by . You get 6 sheets and is described as sound absorber. Probably cheapest place to get it would be the stealers. You could use this as the membrane on the top. Part number 323 863 950 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PACK-OF-6-AUDI-VW-SELF-ADHESIVE-SOUND-ABSORBER-INSULATION-SHEETS-323-863-950/192995761122?epid=645164362&hash=item2cef719be2:g:YjsAAOSwXYpdJajX Also part diagram of insulation http://www.oemepc.com/vw/part_single/catalog/vw/markt/RDW/modell/COR/year/1995/drive_standart/76/hg_ug/863/subcategory/173010/part_id/3686226/lang/e#sec_4
  6. Thanks for the photos. Is that one piece or two pieces of the Heritage stuff that you are comparing to the VW OE insulation thickness. If it is one piece looks spot on if doubled up Thanks
  7. The heritage under bonnet insulation is like a vinyl it is so far from been oem, It is not even the exact shape either you have to trim it. I had my under bonnet spotless and fitted it with the glue they supplied. After I fitted I just looked at and thought that just looks horrid, ripped it off and threw it in the bin- the glue they supplied its like a hard glue that I couldn't get off, was really p,,,, off to be honest waste of time and money. I'm not sure if the group buy was the stuff Heritage is selling , have a look at your under bonnet insulation and if it looks more suitable to make a gimps mask do not use it. Do yourself a favour and buy this stuff UK buyer. Has option of 10mm and 20mm https://dreadnoughtcustoms.co.uk/products/vw-corrado-bonnet-lining-2?variant=12562635915349 If the Heritage stuff is just crap for floor insulation and the measurements are not correct i'm just sending it back. By there measurements 2 pieces will be the same as OE as I have measured mine and the insulation is 20mm - must war you the oe insulation does not got right to the edge of the floor pan probable at least a 5 cm gap from the sill. Problem with some of these aftermarket material is exactly that it does not look the quality of OE . I found the C pillars where my major rattle, pulled them off and put some new cloth around the clips that house it, major difference.
  8. It looks great but I couldn't justify spending that much money. You do realise its 325 dollars just for the footwells not including shipping and customs ? At the end of the day factory insulation has lasted 24 years and would of lasted longer if it wasn't for my matrix, it has also protected the carpets Im sticking with OE style. Im glueing the Heritage insulation to the rubber once I've stripped the old insulation off. Also you will see the insulation on the back is glued in several sections with different depth, which you can also use as a template for the new insulation to fit round floor pan pattern. I actually like the rubber as it stopped the matrix wrecking the carpet and the insulation under it mopped it up. Storm Warning please may I ask what is the Heritage stuff like, if it is anything like their under bonnet insulation Im going to shed a tear ha.
  9. I stripped mine today. The insulation depth total layer was about 22mm. Was cut in some places to go over the floor pan pattern in the rear footwell. I had a very thin plastic grey insulation pad that had cells that was glued to the floor pan, then about 20mm of insulation with a rubber topping. They were smelly and damp with pink coolant from a previous heater matrix leak, so glad I pulled them out. The drivers sides were still mint to be fair so just left them, no point strippping out trim unless you have to as always a risk of damage to them. My carpet was pretty clean and didn't feel the need to remove it completely as the top layer rubber of the old insulation had protected it. So I just stripped enough interior so I could lift the carpet up from the footwells. In other words I didn't fancy stripping the centre console . I gave the carpet a detergent clean with a VAX dry and wet and came up great. Just waiting for the standard 12mm insulation from Heritage and going to double up the pieces (glue together) as only doing the passenger side that was wrecked by the evil matrix spewing. I would use a flexible insulation that you can cut out to suit any non flat surfaces in the floor pan. Purchased this from Heritage but I would look elsewhere as probably not great. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1613/6135/files/CORRADO_UNDERFELT_KIT.pdf?6289193082729557112 This looks good stuff and will leave you room for a couple of mm for a thin base sound absorber. Also seller has loads of other materials. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1m-x-1m-20mm-Classic-Car-Insulation-Restoration-Floor-Sound-Proofing-Deadening/252376923704?hash=item3ac2d63e38:g:e6wAAOSwGpBdssMe This is where you fit it same as factory. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1613/6135/files/CORRADO_UNDERFELT_KIT.pdf?6289193082729557112 This is Corrado factory insulation which is the same I removed from my car. Insulation with a rubber top. https://gramho.com/media/2175337963016226635 I'm going to remove the destroyed insulation off the rubber and glue the new insulation to it as will be a perfect template and has also insured the survival of my carpet over the last 25 years.
  10. Here is a helpful picture. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1613/6135/files/CORRADO_UNDERFELT_KIT.pdf?6289193082729557112
  11. Good stuff not sure a domestic washing machine will do them any good then due to size.
  12. This probably much better stuff then Heritage, Flame retardant as well if your ever doing some welding up on the sills or floor pan. I would guess the Heritage stuff is none of this sort of regret buying lol. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-0m-32ft-Car-Insulation-Self-Adhesive-Foam-Sound-Deadening-Vehicle-Floor-UK/254371043759?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D40733%26meid%3D5efea0792ae9425b93e2921806a1e606%26pid%3D100290%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D303377411805%26itm%3D254371043759%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2060778&_trksid=p2060778.c100290.m3507
  13. FLA do you have to glue the first layer of insulation to the internal floor pan ? Thanks
  14. Thanks mate I just went for the standard 12mm version and the car has all ready got a skin of Vinyl/rubber around 2/3 mm above that which is in very good condition which I will be able to reuse , looking like the job will only cost me £40.00 (cost of 12mm insulation. Im pretty sure its only average stuff to be honest, Heritage are not known for supplying anything quality unless it has the VW OE stamp on it in most instances.
  15. Can I ask has anyone ever tried putting the carpets in the washing machine on something like a wool wash 30 degrees. Did they come out OK or shrunk or damaged.
  16. Thanks that does FLA.
  17. Great write up FLA from an old thread. I have the confidence to remove the carpet myself now and complete the job. I have a rubber level of about 2 mm and some insulation of about 10 mm at present so just going to replace the 10 mm insulation and keep the rubber as it gives good insulation and a nice even finish under the carpet. i think its been covered quite widely so have a search. Anyway, in the meantime heres a little summary: Pull off plastic trims by the door Unscrew teh rear doorcard screws (one each) and carefully pull the doorcards off remove the rear seat bases - push hard at the front of teh seat and the bracket will pop out remove the black plastic seat runner covers (either side of the tunnel) remove the front 10 (iirc) bolt at the front of the seat and slide it back - if you ahve heated seats, remove the connector from under the seat itself Remove the seatbelt securing bolt (17mm) and pull the bar out - make sure you secure the bar in the rear slot when refitting!! Remove the centre tunnel - two pieces, need the handbrake handle off first Remove the plastic covers in the footwells By the pedals, you'll see where the carpet has been fitted to the floor - remove the plastic nuts there Check if there's anything else holding the carpet in place Take the carpet out. Not tricky, or difficult, just allow yourself some time and keep a tu
  18. From what I can see Heritage do two versions. deluxe double layer 24mm in total Standard single 10-12mm deep in total Has anyone fitted either does the deluxe fit sounds a little to deep. Any advice would be great. Thanks
  19. Ok by the sounds of it chap youll have to test all the other possibilities and rule them out before going forward with your claim so you can be sure. Can anyone recommend a good insulation , is it meant to have a rubber side to it so it stop damp coming up to the carpet. mm depth for insulation ? Does the carpet have a rubber backing mine seems to have carpet at the moment and under that is a rubber layer and under that the insulation wrecked through coolant. Do I just need to buy insulation and the carpet has the rubber on it all ready? Thanks in advance.
  20. You got me leak paranoid and just checked my car thoroughly , annoyingly the last owner had the heater matrix replaced and I can still feel damp coolant on the underlay/ soundproofing, i think its coolant has like a slightly oily /silky feel to it. Looks like they didn't bother to strip the carpets and replace the underlay on the passenger side that got soaked when the leak was present on the old failing matrix grrr. I'm just really hoping its not your windscreen again after all the hassle you've been through and costs.
  21. Yes mate I have seen it but it looks like the drivers footwell I thought it was the passengers ?
  22. water has a habit of reaching places and settling far from where it actually leaks because of gravity. Before you start ripping things out. I would test the sunroof drains asap. Then I would consider taking the plunge on these door seals and make John an offer off here who is selling a roll of door seal to cover x2 doors. I would also be tempted to look at the door card again. http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?110024-Corrado-parts-for-sale
  23. Hi rob , Have you thoroughly tested the sunroof drains chap . The drain pipe flows out to each corner of the car roughly where the A pillar comes down to the sill on the front of the car. Open up the sunroof and get a jug of water and pour in each corner, especially the front corner of passenger. I imagine there is no chemical smell in the water as you seem to have no concern that it is the heater matrix leaking. Hopefully its not the windscreen chap as it could be more then the window fitter it could be the fabrication of the new piece the seal does not quite house correctly. If its not the sunroof I would take the plunge and buy a new door seal as really you need to eliminate all the easy stuff first before going to the body shop. Im pretty Sure JonVR& had some for sale off here.
  24. Rob does your cassette holder fit under the ashtray where the VDO gauges go ? This is a bizarre diagram from VAG, it shows a cassette holder next to the handbrake and also a bulb in the rear ashtray, not sure even in the States they had a cassette holder by the handbrake. Anyone ever seen one of these cassette holders where the handbrake centre console is ? Part number 25 is showing bulb for rear ashtray which mine does not have. Part number 26 shows a bulb for cassette holder in handbrake console. http://www.oemepc.com/vw/part_single/catalog/vw/markt/RDW/modell/COR/year/1995/drive_standart/76/hg_ug/919/subcategory/214010/part_id/0/lang/e
  25. Rob have you checked to see the heater matrix gasket is in place in the scuttle . Where the two pipes enter through the scuttle. Also noticed soundedning is on special offer at Heritage clear out. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gasket-Bulkhead-Heater-Matrix-Pipes-/362719282695
