  1. 55w - anything higher is illegal (over here) and the extra heat will damge the reflectors
  2. Yeah, the VR fan is a big unit but a nice beefy bit of kit and not bad for £100 if still being sold, my mate got one and it's deffo genuine VAG... Worth checking the bearings on the second fan tho when changing as his were shot, new belt is about a fiver.
  3. Hi Angela, you can get the brushes from an autoelctrician for pennies but best let them solder them in as it's an arse... The other option is to replace the diode / brush pack, it may have a 10 digit Bosch number on it, if you look on the Bosch website you'll find your local dealer...
  4. You need the 9 inch from a passat / corrado / mk2 (don't think a mk3 ones will do) Also - becuase of the pedal position sensor, you can't use one from an ABS car...
  5. A litre every 1000 miles either means wrong grade of oil, a leak or an engine that needs some attention soon! VW stick that in the manual to cover themselves while the engine is running in, IMO a good engine should use no more than 1/2 Ltr every 3-5k's and 1Ltr per 3-5 max.
  6. Best not to ever let it get below the reserve, the lift pump will struggle and the fuel also helps reduce noise and disipate heat...
  7. yeah, chips don't like static... hopefully the ECU will be ok tho!
  8. Hehe - I think he meant in terms of you posting stuff to us :D His sigs tiny on my 24" wideboy! Yeah, we are mainly UK based but obviously everyone is welcome, i think in terms of german's tho, there are various Corrado Forums already set up for their language so they are less likely to come onto here reguarly...
  9. Yeah - you need to stand there and watch it / feel the pipes while keeping an eye on the temps to work out what is going on... Big fuse - not sure, it's not like a normal blade, just a metal strip so not sure if it's standard or not... I have a few tho so can post you one if needed - if it has gone tho it will be caused by the motor burning out / dead short or similar as it's a bloody great thing, worth checking the wiring to the fan plug!
  10. You stuck the chip in the correct way round didn't you Carl? :)
  11. Remember there is a big fuse in the engine bay if you have ABS (black box near expansion tank) If your warming up from cold, keep an eye on the top and bottom hoses, the bottom one should be cold to slightly warm until you hit 80c then should get as hot as the top one in about 2 mins... if not and the top one is rock hard with the car fully up to temp the its the stat stuck closed and he rad will never get hot enough to trigger the fan... If it appears to work ok in terms of the above but the temp gets to 110 then the fan comes on it will be the thermoswitch only working at stage 2...
  12. Sheeet! I hope you have something superb lined up to replace it!
  13. Worth hanging onto the closed one for the winter, especially if using a Mocal cooler mounted at the front...
  14. Have you seen the fan working at all??? maybe a fuse?
  15. Welcome to the forum They where free up until a couple of years ago, now about £15 I think (dealer only) Really best to fit the MK3 matrix tho as this comes with the valves built in...
  16. Hmmm - depends whats been spent on it, I heard it needed a fair bit of work doing...
  17. LOL, I think the copy he is using actually came from a local dealer... they really don't care and the guys at my local TPS much prefer me ringing up with a list of numbers rather than 'i need a.. for a ... ' and then them having to ask for year . chassis etc...
  18. VAG bolts for alloys have a rounded countersink, you need to check what the BBS's are as they may be flat and also how much thread potrudes compared to an original wheel as you may need longer ones... The thread is M12 x 1.5mm for 4 stud and M14 by 1.5mm for 5 (VR6)
  19. LOL - Kev, you've got Variant 3's now! what happened to the Gaz's ?
  20. Yeah, I tried the MK3 one but it's huage... Just blew my Jetex one out with the airline, looks cleaner but whether it will still work as well or not remains to be seen...
  21. Yep more AutoBild (Autoexpress) bollox - I don't believe any of there pics, just wait for the actual car to arrive!
  22. Yeah, I (stupidly) cross threaded one a month ago but it wasn't too bad, ordered a thread restorer from Snap-on (£2) and sorted... nice to have new hubs tho as they do corrode with age etc... £25's cheap tho, I thought they were more like £75! I think you'll need a new bearing kit tho with it along with the 3 bolts for the bottom ball joint as you need to take the bearing carrier off to release it - unless anyone was a way of extracting it on the car and not replacing the bearing???
  23. Ok - do you mean the wheel bolt thread? if so you could sort it by using a thread restorer (Halfords / Snap-on) If you mean the thing the Hub nut bolts too tho that is the outer CV joint...
  24. Not really tbh ( or you don't want it to get to that stage really) If it is a 63mm then 20k Miles is about the max you want to do before a rebuild for peice of mind... G-Laders are reliable, they just need regular maintenence!
