Friends VR6 Fried with a 24v forklift truck jumpstart
GrahamU replied to Michael'durham''s topic in Engine Bay
Seems strange they replaced the fuse box, that should take 24v no problem. Most of the car should be ok, alot can depend onwhat was switched on when it was connected up. When you say its dead, how dead do you mean? Does it turn over, fire etc -
Dont worry, its not an advert to go make you buy something. To promote the company they did a time lapse video of one of our guys making a TPMS harness for an Aston race car, thought someone might be interested

To answer your first question, I changed my cluster to go to a digital speedo from a cable. The cluster I put in had alot lower milage, I told the guy doing the MOT who said it wasnt a problem.

I stripped a 4 and a 5 stud hub the other day, they measured the same so the 5 studhub will fit into the g60 bearing. The difference I could see was the spline for the CV. If the spline on a g60 driveshaft is the same as a VR driveshaft then I dont see the need for swapping the whole lot. The disc will have a different offset but many people re-drill discs for the right stud pattern There may be something I'm missing so someone may correct me. For the rears its just a case of changing the rear discs for 5 stud

if you get better results with the panel held rigid you could try bolting the speaker to the metalwork of the door Then stop the door from vibrating with some sound deadening, dynamat is expensive so alot of people are now using builders flashing tape, same sort of stuff but cheap as chips ;)

Sound to me that you do have 2 problems the vss is not connected to the engine ecu giving you the error message, join the wires as vince says and the spoiler system module may not be working The vss must be working for the speedo to be working

we need to play 'spot the mistakes' in this program. This weeks mistake: he changes the MANUAL fuel pump thats bolted to the engine then gets in a says, 'right lets prime the system' he then pumps the throttle and turns on the ignition saying 'get that ignition on, let that fuel pump do its work' leaves the ignition on for a couple of seconds says 'fingers crossed' then starts the car. Not really how a manual pump primes.

I beleive the spoiler speed control is generated of the speedo itself and not from the vss I assume the speedo itself works ok?

Looks good, enjoy it

Received the eyebrow today, spot on, thanks -
I'd stick with the OEM ECU, theres plenty of people and places that will map it for the k03s and there isnt alot to the wiring if you have a complete harness from the doner car. Have a word with either rubjonny or andyout on clubgti. Andyout sorted the immo on my ECU

Do you have late grey door cards with interior handles, speaker pods, mirror switch and the brakets that hold the cards to the door.
-
How much do you plan to lighten your flywheel by? The g60 fly is already alot lighter and I've heard it can cause problems with tickover going to much lighter

Dont think relay 9 is populated over here have a look here http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=44637.10

To be honest, the rest of the car did what I wanted only the radio didn't so didn't think about moving any wires just adding one for the radio

Like what you've done, looks great

I can only assume its been sponsered by the good ole US of A hence the continuous dollar quotes. Best bit was this weeks when he used the word 'stoked', he looked really uncomfortable saying it

Mine had the same problem, I looked into it and early rado's didnt have the aux switched live from the ignition fitted but the barrel/switch is the same for all. I just added the wire ignition switch. I'll look it up and let you know which one to add it into ---------- Post added at 6:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 5:36 PM ---------- Position 'S' on the switch connector is the aux switched live

wheel bearing received yesterday, thanks

I think I know the answer to this but I'm gonna ask anyway. I have an oil cooler from a mk1 GTI and a 1.8T, I am curious to know if it would work by putting it in the line from the oil filter body to the turbo without the sandwich plate?

Mine is mounted in front of the 16v rad but behind the bumper, there must be a reasonable ammount of air flowing through it from the lower vent. Having said that, the UK aint that hot
