1. How to change bulbs. http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=46064nWithout the hassle of removing the instrument cluster.

3. I've never understood this really. Lower your car till it can't be used on public roads. Fit 3 foot wide tyres so you can't turn corners. Put on illegal number plates and moan about getting fined. Make a decision. If your car is an ornament park it in the drive and put fairy lights on it, if not, keep it legal or sensible and just drive the bloody thing.
4. A bit earlier this year but here we go again. Or it's a very poor attempt at an Alpine White respray.
5. Some money probably. Whatever a buyer would pay for it. Anything between £30 to £30,000. Why not have a look at others for sale on here, Pistonheads, Ebay or wherever and see where yours fits in the grand scheme of things.
6. Just had a look at a tilt handle. There are no screws or other clips to hold it on apart from some ribs inside where it fits. Looks very much as if it's a pull off/push on affair.
7. The belt is tensioned by rotating the tensioner in a clockwise direction. There are two holes in the face of the tensioner which are used to rotate it using a peg spanner. Some alternative suggestions here :- http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=5169
8. Agreed. Go with the Fusion Reactor.
9. Had a further thought on this since I posted, I think the external drive pulleys all need to come off. Again these are Allan bolts and are best freed while the belts ae in place and tensioned. All should be obvious when you stick your head in there.
10. Memory failing a wee bit her but basically. Remove timing belt covers. You will have to take off the ancillary belts and possibly one of the pulleys. water pump I think. Line up the spotty dots on the pulleys. Slacken off the tensioner. Remove timing belt. Replace timing belt and re-tension so that you can just twist it about 90 degrees. Check timing marks are still aligned. Rotate engine by hand a couple of times and recheck timing marks. Shove back all the other stuff and covers. Job done. Just a thought as I type this, the water pump pulley is retained by four allan bolts, undo these through he wheel arch before you do anything else. they are wee buggers to get off and the tension from the drive belt will keep the pulley from turning.
11. Found this which refers to D3. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/archive/index.php/o-t--t-345422--.html The part number in that thread leads to this http://www.quattroforum.com/index.php?threads/the-quattro-owners-club.16106/page-5. See post No 87
12. Mines non sunroof. Looking at the number of threads about sunroof problems and replacements I'm quite glad about it.
13. Oowee, I'm off the scale!!! Off my bleedin head more like it.
14. I had a Polo CL1.3 Formel E as well, my first Volkswagen. I loved it when you had new people in it and you could pretend it was voice controlled. Drive up to the lights, say "Engine stop" and slip it into neutral and the engine would stop then when the lights changed say "Engine start" put it in gear , it would start again. The look on their faces was priceless. OK, I'm easily amused.
15. I'm not aware of these products being corrosive so wouldn't think any damage has been done unless there is obvious signs of erosion on the surface such as pitting or rounding of previous sharp edges. You could check the face with a straight edge, see if there are any gaps between the edge and the cover. I have in the past used a sheet of plate glass and grinding paste to resurface joining faces on obsolete covers. Beg a piece of salvage plate from your friendly neighbourhood glazier, or get a mirror from a charity shop large enough for the cover to sit on with a few inches extra all round. Support the glass/mirror on a smooth surface and smear some grinding paste on the mating surface of the cover and shuffle it about on small circles. Keep checking the face and a matt surface should appear where the grinding paste is doing it's job. When the whole face is matt it should be job done. I used this technique on a Sunbeam S7 engine and it was oil tight after, more oil tight than factory actually. If you get plate glass you can also check the face by lightly oiling the valve cover joint face, lay it joint face up and place the plate glass on top and press gently. the oil should seal between the glass and cover, any deformity will show as areas where oil is not forming a seal against the glass. Don't use window glass as it is not absolutely flat. If you are totally skint a brick through a shop window can provide free plate. Only kidding of course, wouldn't dare suggest anything illegal.

Disaster Today

So true. They did not have valve guides per se. The valves ran in the head.

Disaster Today

Ah memories. I was unfortunate enough to own an Aggro estate which looked like a mini hearse. At least it was easy to lower, just let the fluid out and drive on the bump stops. On the original subject, I have never quite understood the whole stretch thing. Fitting wider wheels, yes. There's something about a wide wheel AND Tyre that looks good and probably the wider dod of rubber on the road gives greater grip. But fitting wheels that are basically to wide and as a result you fit a tyre that is too narrow for the rim just seems daft, looks stupid and can be dangerous as displayed by this thread. But then I'm old, have a bus pass and confess I had a Talbot Horizon.

They are listed on the fuse box cover. If that's missing this may help. http://www.a2resource.com/electrical/CE2.html
20. There is definitely alien life. I married one. On a more serious note this was in the news recently http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/10321227/Alien-life-found-living-in-Earths-atmosphere-claims-scientist.html Personally, given the scale of the universe, we cannot surely be the only lifeform. Also we seem obsessed with carbon based life but why shouldn't it be based on something else.
21. All taxed up and on the road again, yaay. Just spent an hour wheeching around the country roads. I missed the wee bugger so much.
22. Check the corrugated rubber elbow just before the throttle body. They tend to perish with age and you get cracks in it, usually underneath where you can't see them.
23. You sir must be in league with the devil. :evilbat: I came in today to find two large tins of emulsion and a new roller. Ah well, It'll give me something to pass the time till Tuesday.:cheers:
24. Yaay, pass with no advisories. Now, do I waste three weeks road tax or wait another week. Decisions, decisions
