I fear its going to slow down again Rob. I'm back to work on Monday but away during the week until March, so only really have the weekends so it'll be the odd hour here and there between family time.... No huge rush though as I don't plan on taking it out until late spring anyway.

Engine support arrived on 27th so subframe is now off. I've removed everything from it including the PAS rack which I'll paint myself, though I am considering having it rebuilt. Has anyone done it themselves - is it difficult to strip down as surely its only the seals that need replacing? I've got the ARB off and have a BNOS one to go on, and the wishbones are off and luckily I had no issues with front captive nuts breaking off. They've obviously been off in the past as the rears were poly bushes so that may have helped, along with about a dozen goes on them with some plusgas over a 48 hour period. Most of my parts have arrived; ball joints, inner & outer CVs, track rods & ends, brake dust shields, rear bumper heat shield, front ABS sensors, brake hoses and various nuts & bolts. Had a lot of the parts from previously (hubs, bearings, bushes, clips etc), so all I really need to do now before I put it all back together is get the drive shafts, hub knuckles & subframe powdercoated, give the rest of the underside a good clean & patch repair a few bits of underseal, get the calipers refurbished (keep meaning to send them to Bigg Red so need to get round to that sharpish) and get all the brake lines made up. I have already made a lot of the lines in kunifer, but although I've done a pretty good job if I do say so myself!, I just don't thing I'll be completely happy unless they're perfectly formed as the radius's on mine just aren't close enough to original with the pipe bender I have. As volksworld13 is only a couple of hours from me, I will probably have him make me the set in the original green steel and go and pick them up. I'll post up some pics at some point as well. :thumbleft:

Awful description and awful pics. Maybe message the seller for some more detailed pics but that's a lazy advertisment to be honest.

Front MK3 Golf 288mm calipers & carriers, rear MK4 Golf calipers, and a full set of goodridge braided hoses including the rear beam flexis, which are brand new. The rear hoses are used but in good order, and the fronts look a little more used as the clear cover has yellowed a bit but are perfectly functional. Calipers are currently painted yellow, all move freely and are ready to fit straight away. Price is £100 + postage. I also have a good set of Jurid disks and pads for the front with tons of life left, which I'll include if they're collected or postage is paid fore these as they're obviously pretty heavy. I can send pics if required, just PM me and I'll send them via phone or email. Also advertised on CCGB Facebook page with photos. https://m.facebook.com/groups/746458145534377?view=permalink&id=1414055288774656 Collection from North Devon or I'm in Portsmouth between 6th - 24th Jan (Weekdays).

If you want the bonnet sound insulation, you can't go wrong with the one that sprinter on here sells. Self adhesive and a fantastic replica of the OE stuff. Is it as good an insulator as the OE stuff, I'm not sure but I don't see why not.

I put mine in a large industrial drum washer. Washed quite well though some of the grit stayed inside which needed hoovering when dry. No noticeable shrinking or anything on a 30 degree wash. I gave them a bit of a dry scrub after to loosen the pile as it felt a little stiff as well.

Bugger, hope you get to the bottom of it Rob. If you remove all the carpet and sound deadening etc from the passenger side, dry it all out in there and blow some talc around to see if you can trace where it's coming in mate

I am indeed mate. Gonna spend the day on it tomorrow too. :thumbleft:

Ian, sorry for late reply. The correct ones have a part number ending in 2002HA which is what I have fitted now. Incorrect ones end in 3002HA. Good comparison from SeanJaymos old car below including pics and full part numbers. http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?80155-Corrado-Part-Duex-24V-Aqua-Blue-She-s-gone&p=1091997&viewfull=1#post1091997

Seems to be the way everyone is going Rob, me included. Can't bring myself to remove all the Storm bits, but I've got everything required to change it back should I ever want to. House is all good thanks mate. Just got to finish the garden off which is just some turf, a bit of fencing and a large wooden gazebo to house a hot tub and a bar, then it's complete! Well... apart from the kitchen but that's being done in about 2 1/2 years time. Is it the rear plinth you're referring to?
-
Fingers crossed for you Rob, such a pain given its something that could have been designed so much better even if it is a relatively easy fix. Just a shame it has the potential to cause a huge amount of damage (including catastrophic fire damage!).

Well, 2 years on and I've finally had a day on the car! Not a huge amount done, more of trying to reacquaint myself with it and remember what I'd done previously, and check the parts I still need. Got the front brakes, hubs & driveshafts off, but had to destroy the ball joints and track rod ends as they wouldn't come out without using the splitter. The O/S brake dust shield bolts wouldn't budge from the knuckle either and one sheared, so I'm soaking them for a few days before trying again. I've ordered an engine support, so subframe should be off before the new year as well hopefully. Calipers will be going off to Bigg Red next week, and I'm off til 6th Jan so hopefully able to make some decent progress.

No no no. It's not really cheddar if it's Canadian. You can make it in the arse end of Timbuktu using the same ingredients and process, but it'll never be true Cheddar despite the name!. Taken from a staunch Westcountryman!

Ah, but it has to be the right colour from factory with correct leather too. I'm at max efficiency as the badges and wheels were actually put on by the dealer, even though it's not a "real" Storm.

What 80's - 90s cars for sale have caught your eye recently.

It was 16v and VR6 IIRC. I've seen them in a UK car, but can't be sure if they were from UK release cars or were sourced elsewhere. The car was black, but again not entirely sure if they came in specific colours..... Sorry! -

The MK3 Recaros are from an 'Edition' rather than the 'Anniversary Edition'. Pretty rare actually. I had an 8v AGG MK3 GTI. It's what I cut my teeth on learning about car maintenance and mechanics. I paid £200 for it, and thought that if I mess it up, it doesn't really matter for that. It had a few choice mods when I bought it, which made it a bit less squidgy but not a particularly quick car by any stretch. It was a good daily though, and I would recommend one to any youngish lad looking for an affordable and solid motor where spare and aftermarket parts are easy to get hold of if you want a starter project -
:thumbleft: Fair play to him mate. Good opportunity for a solid career whilst seeing the world. I'd recommend it to anyone, especially the youth of today as a lot of them have no concept of life outside their little box, and the fact things don't revolve around them. Not saying your son is anything like that! But far too many snowflakes who don't understand what a big bad world it really is.

I've been hiding! Lol. No mate, not been at sea, just long working hours (commuting actually) and concentrating on finishing the house. 100% on the car in the next few months. I've squirrelled away some dosh for replacement parts, though in the 2 years mine has been off the road, prices for parts have risen massively! Will be starting around Christmas though as I am off to sea shortly, until then.

Rob, just seen this mate. Sorry to hear about more rust troubles! Maybe time to think about renting a local authority garage to keep it tucked away and dry in. I did it a few years back. Cost me £50 a month, but the peace of mind and probably cost saving in the long run for rust repairs must surely be worth it. I was lucky and had a pick of about a dozen within 5 minutes walk from home. I picked the best lit row, slightly elevated to avoid standing water (but not too elevated to scrape as I went in and out!), and one in the middle of others so rain water couldn't get in at the sides. Worth considering mate.
-
Yeah, still feel a bit guilty about your indicator lens Chris, sorry!
-
Some of Hardwood House and Bruntingthorpe. I can very vaguely see myself and car in a couple of the pics. None focussed on either of us though thankfully! I'm still here loosely and still have the car too.
-
Me too. Higher power output so it's like a more modern starter and turns over/starts much quicker than a standard sluggish one.

Even the newest AGU or AGN is almost 15 years old now so very few will have low miles and/or be in good shape to stick straight in, even if you did want to risk it from what would likely be an unknown source. As mentioned, get another 9A and refurb at your leisure. -
Possibly caliper but also likely the rear bias valve. If you handbrake cable is at the max adjustment, probably worth replacing both of those too. Remember when bleeding the rear, you need to ensure the bias valve is open so either weight on the wheels, or cable tie it open whilst bleeding.
