  1. I've removed brake Master and clutch Master & Slave cylinders today. Brake master definitely needs sorting as there is a small amount of fluid on the shaft even though there is no fluid in the reservoir and its not under any pressure. The Clutch master doesn't show any outward signs of wear, but the boot covers most of the shaft so hard to be sure and there is a pin hole in the boot as well, so its possible that there is an issue. I had a little trouble selecting gear just before I took it off the road, and no amount of shift alignment would sort it. It seemed hydraulic to me though as a double pedal pump would sort it. I replaced the slave cylinder not that long previously, though it was an aftermarket one and its possible that it wasn't up to standard I suppose. I may get a new one of those as well, though there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it visually A bit of digging suggests that the LHD clutch master will fit with a bit of fettling of the pressure pipe in order for it to go into the front of the MC, rather than the top at a 45 degree angle as on RHD cars. VW Heritage are selling a JP Group LHD MC for £20. I've spoken to PastParts today and they'll refurbish my original for £90 + VAT. Now, at almost 6 x the cost of the JP group one, I'm reluctant to get it refurbished. Especially considering Jim Bowen had his done and it only lasted 3k miles. I'm in a bit of a quandary over that one..... The brake MC can also be refurbished for £160 + VAT, though there doesn't appear to be any solution other than refurbishment unfortunately......:confused:
  2. The rear engine mount isn't under a lot of stress due to the weight distribution over the front and gearbox mount holding the majority of it. I've got a vibratech fast road front and rear mount, and did have the gearbox one too but have gone back to OE as it's this one that causes the vast majority of vibration in the cabin. Vibratech are expensive so if it's just the rear you need, I think an aftermarket one should be perfectly fine for many years.
  3. Rob, I'd like to say early May but we're going on holiday in April so funds are being watched by the better half! It's only funds for a full set of tyres and service items not yet put aside. May have to see about brake and clutch master cylinder as well so I'll see how it goes when I attempt to fill and bleed the system. I shouldn't be deploying this year, but joining a new ship in July so will have some time at Sea from then on. Perks of being home every night which I've enjoyed for the past 18 months are shortly to be over!
  4. Hi Chris! Yeah I went with the silver electroplating mate. I wanted standard silver colour but with a bit more protection and the look great. Fronts look like new, and rears although are a little pitted in places, still came up a treat. The handbrake cable mechanism being nice and shiny really set them off too. :thumbleft:
  5. Calipers have arrived back from Bigg Red and they look absolutely stonking! I'll try to put some photos up over the next couple of days of recent progress and parts. :thumbleft:
  6. You're right there, can't say I'm overly enamored with the interior to be honest but as you say, rare indeed. The VSR is a rare beast also. 5 years ago a Shrick was about £6-700 and a VWM VSR about £11-1200. Both have probably doubled in price in that time (as have the cars to be honest). I paid £620 for a car that needed a bit of work and sold it for £1500 for a quick sale. Even poor examples are at the 2.5k + mark now. How times change after a bit of exposure from Mike Brewer & Ed China! Lol
  7. I do agree with that, but there are very few with those that were on the original order sheet and boot sticker. Remember that these are sought after due to the fact they were all quite rare items. 1 of 6, with only 4 remaining is as rare as it gets!
  8. Again I disagree. Most people don't want modified Corrado anymore. They're considered modern classics now, and as such the majority prefer standard OE spec cars. I'm not saying that applies to everyone, but I've been around the forum long enough to see the trend change that way. We all want acceptance off our fellow Corrado peers in some way let's not kid ourselves, otherwise we'd be modifying them to high heaven to suit our needs. God knows there are enough cheap kits out there to bring the car up to what would be modern comfort standards. The reason we don't though is that we appreciate the classic original styling, responsiveness and feel of the car. We don't go too far outside of this now for fear of removing all of the above.
  9. See I disagree to some extent. The back story is what makes it unique and gives it the premium. Why do people covet the first of a limited number in a special edition, or why do People pay a premium on a car that has been owned by celebrities??? It may not be mechanically any different from others, but the interior also makes it unique and they are truly unicorn cars. In 9 years of Corrado ownership and attending a fair share of meets and shows (though not in the past couple of years admittedly), I've never seen one. Granted you're making your pool of potential buyers even smaller in what is already a small market for the Corrado if your looking at it from an investment point of view, but occasionally there are some with the funds to purchase these types of cars. I just hope the winning bidder (if a sale is agreed) doesn't just keep it locked away as an investment and others get to see it. You can keep your turbos, VDO gauges and Recaro interiors, because I would guarantee that more people would flock round this than the most well kept and equipped Corrado out there.

  11. They look great! I sent mine to them (Big Redd) last week as it happens. Silver electroplating was a little more but hopefully they come back looking as good as yours. My fronts were in good order so confident they will, but the rears were in pretty poor shape so fingers crossed!
  12. Rear beam stripped back down with beam, brackets and tank straps all removed ready to go with the front bits for powder coating. Should be able to drop them off the end of next week.
  13. Luckily I replaced all of those a few years ago so dont need replacements. Most of the front subframe bolts etc need replacing, the rears are mostly ok aside from the fuel filter housing nuts and one or two others. The bumper to bracket bolts are hidden so I was happy to replace them with 10.9 stainless.
  14. I dread to think how much it'll cost judging from past experience... I got a load of old and new ones zinc plated previously, but some of the old ones are a bit pitted so I'm not entirely happy with them. Need to get a list of part numbers together first though.
  15. Thanks all! Rob, yeah hopefully be around in it for local meets etc this spring/summer. Look forward to seeing yours again too after all the work you've had done since I last saw it up on Plymouth Hoe. Mark, no real rust underneath thankfully. Just a little bit of surface rust easily rubbed down around the studs for various clips etc. With a rub down, bit of paint and the underseal on top - which I'm hoping to get from VW if still available, all should be good. :thumbleft:
  16. Cleaned up the rest of the underside yesterday. Looking nice and clean now, though may have one more pass at it as I've come this far, a couple more hours will make it spotless. Hands and arms were starting to come out in rashes from the thinners though! I'm going to remove the rear beam and tank strap again though, as I'd painted it before but as the front is being powder coated, I want it all to be uniform. Got the front bearings pressed out so everything is at the front is ready to go now. I also painted up the PAS rack in stone chip and it looks great. Received my goodridge hoses in vintage Matt black with SS fittings last week too. Calipers were sent off to Bigg Red today for refurbishment and electroplating, so just lines, powder coating and a load of nuts and bolts to get now. Oh, and service items ready to fire up and get back on the road late spring I expect! Getting excited to finally be on the path to driving it again after so long! :thumbleft:
  17. Awful write up from someone who obviously knows bugger all about cars, but some interesting VWs nonetheless https://www.thethings.com/cars-volkswagen-definitely-regrets-making-and-ones-they-regret-discontinuing/
  18. FML! Difficult to price admittedly, but more than twice that of a showroom condition standard example with all the options.... Not sure about that!
  19. Oh, I didn't realise they had an outlet in the states. I retract my previous statement then! :thumbleft:
  20. Think the OP is in the states so Heritage or CP probably aren't options
  21. Most machining companies would be able to do it. No real idea on how much it would cost though....
  22. No they won't. If they were larger you could get spigots to fill the difference, but uour only option would be to get them bored out to 57.1
  23. Think I remember that ones from a Seat Ibiza from a similar vintage were exactly the same too. Pretty sure I bought some but I'm away from home until the weekend so can't check part numbers and where I bought them til then. If you do a search it might come up?
