  1. Rob, just seen this mate. Sorry to hear about more rust troubles! Maybe time to think about renting a local authority garage to keep it tucked away and dry in. I did it a few years back. Cost me £50 a month, but the peace of mind and probably cost saving in the long run for rust repairs must surely be worth it. I was lucky and had a pick of about a dozen within 5 minutes walk from home. I picked the best lit row, slightly elevated to avoid standing water (but not too elevated to scrape as I went in and out!), and one in the middle of others so rain water couldn't get in at the sides. Worth considering mate.
  2. Yeah, still feel a bit guilty about your indicator lens Chris, sorry!
  3. Some of Hardwood House and Bruntingthorpe. I can very vaguely see myself and car in a couple of the pics. None focussed on either of us though thankfully! I'm still here loosely and still have the car too.
  4. Me too. Higher power output so it's like a more modern starter and turns over/starts much quicker than a standard sluggish one.

  6. Even the newest AGU or AGN is almost 15 years old now so very few will have low miles and/or be in good shape to stick straight in, even if you did want to risk it from what would likely be an unknown source. As mentioned, get another 9A and refurb at your leisure.
  7. Possibly caliper but also likely the rear bias valve. If you handbrake cable is at the max adjustment, probably worth replacing both of those too. Remember when bleeding the rear, you need to ensure the bias valve is open so either weight on the wheels, or cable tie it open whilst bleeding.
  8. I don't think it'll go much past 10k. Whilst we all want our cars to be worth more, we were saying the same thing 5 years ago when they were rock bottom. Prices have increased, but whilst I've seen a few advertised up to 20k, I don't think any have sold for anywhere near that. Kip even had his multi concourse winner for sale around the 12k mark. Add in the buyers premium, 12k tops for that car for me. It may even be bought by a dealer, in which case we'll see it on eBay shortly for twice as much, before being dropped down 6 months later and the dealer eventually cutting his losses and moving it on for close to what they bought it for.
  9. I thought it was dependant on country of sale/climate
  10. Morning Marc, in all honesty it's your call. General maintenance/servicing certainly, but other than what you've already mentioned and if there were any advisories on previous MOT, it's entirely personal preference. Are there any things you're not overly happy with on the car? If so, start there. Ask Vince to give it a bit of a health check too, as that may give you more of an idea what's needed mechanically.
  11. I was there too! I can't remember if Nick (above was there in all honesty, though I can remember his recent at the time turbo addition at Bruntingthorpe a couple of years later. Kip was there I think with Judy, Wendy possibly & Ian (Gloucesterox) who all still have them. Redbourbon was there too who still has his.
  12. Great work James, really interested to know what kit you used for the plating? This is proper home restoration imo, it's easy to send things off to be restored and the fit them yourself, but nothing beats the self satisfaction of doing the whole thing by your own hands. It may take a little while longer, but it's definitely worth it! Keep it up mate, and look forward to Future updates. :thumbleft:
  13. Yeah I agree, very Renault 19/Citroen BX love child esque! lol. The bosses did well not to sign off on those and tweak them to what we have today. Much better and more modern looking than the concepts above. Some of it does seem relatively subtle (front and rear light clusters, & rake of rear hatch and deeper chin spoiler etc), but its made a massive difference.
  14. Ah got you! Got to admit, I've seen it too though not too bad and never had any issue removing them. :thumbleft:
  15. I've got epoxy mastic for mine. Only done the rear axle so far and it's not seen the road so can't comment on how well it'll last, but the reviews I'd read were good and they do a lot of off road vehicles with it. https://www.rust.co.uk/ It's the EM121 stuff
  16. Aqua blue 16v - N*** FNK in Harris motors, Nomansland, Devon. Never thought I'd see one in these parts and so close to me! :thumbleft:
  17. I had a set of Proxes on an old Mk3 Golf, and didn't think they were that bad. Only thing with them is that it's a very soft compound, and they were down to the wear limit after 8k miles!
  18. Very true, though VW just fob you off and tell you that their records only go back to 2000 when they were digitised..... 95 - 96 year model, scared cat looking ride height, and yellow dipstick suggests its likely to be a Storm though. I had to get a Zertifikat from the Wolfberg Museum to confirm mine (or confirm not as was my case).
  19. Don't forget the centre bore either. Though you can get adaptor rings if they're bigger, standard is 57.1. you'd have to get them bored out if smaller.
  20. Not touched it in about a year. :( House should be finished by the end of summer though so plan for now is to start back on it over winter. I don't have a huge amount of parts to get, so it's just time to do it all. Here's to hoping anyway!
  21. Good stuff Rob. Glad you (fingers crossed) have sorted it, you've been plagued by intermittent idle and cutting out issues for a good few years now haven't you!? I'll definitely have to check out Resto Shack. It's actually quite close, and the quickest way to get there is through the country roads so would be a nice little trip down - if I ever get the car back on the road!
  22. Yeah I sold them over winter. I don't think they're particularly rare, kind of middle ground I think. The 16" in 5 stud are quite rare I reckon. More in 4 stud from the Polo 6n2, but though I've never really searched thats the first set of 16s in 5 stud that I've seen. The 17s do come up every so often on ebay though. They're RX 228 if you search for them.
  23. Wow, now theres a chufty, Thanks mate! :thumbleft:
  24. Nope, they were absolutely perfect. As mentioned, I was as low as about 40mm at one point, didn't have rolled arches and even went to shows with the kids in the back as well as a boot full, and never once had them rub. Same at the front even with full lock on. :thumbleft:
