  1. MOT, Service, Ball Joints, Track Rod Ends, Front Wheel Bearings, 4 wheel Alignment. Well, I say what "I did"... actually I just wrote the job list and Cheque
  2. I know its a bump of an old thread, but I wanted to share my latest steering fun. About two years ago I first noticed a slight vague feel to the steering. Shortly after I had the KW V1s, top mounts done along with new tyres and a 4 wheel alignment. Things seemed to tighten up a little. As the tyres wore down and weather deteriorated it became more noticeable again. Earlier this year I had the inner and outer bushes done along with the rear bushes too (and another 4 wheel alignment) while having the bigger brakes installed (plus new OE rear bearings) Things again seemed OK most of the time however, I started to notice play under heavy braking also increased vagueness at motorway speed. Recently I've been doing some big mileage and noticed that things had started to rapidly get much worse, tracking was certainly part of it as I managed to eat some front tyres badly and uneven. As a regular checker of tread it really surprised me. As others have said, things did still tighten up pushing into corners, but then you could feel the play making life hard on exit, wandering about looking for grip Today I had ball joints; track rod ends and front wheel bearings replaced followed by the 4 wheel alignment again. Also the mounting bolts on the rack torqued up. Interestingly, one of the new wheel bearings was shot, loud noises on first test run so had to swapped out. Earlier I went for a test run on a couple of my favourite stages namely B Road School Run Primary(Forest and Fens) and B Road Commute Half (Reverse). What a difference! Steering is far more confident, wandering under braking seems to be gone. At lower speeds, slight movement on the wheel actually turns the car! I have not tested motorway speeds or the wet (the wet always amplified the problems) but it looks promising. Hopefully, i'm not going to be looking at any of the very expensive bits just yet! Only slight issues might be a non-issue, from what I can tell the fact that the steering is almost weightless in the middle and slightly turning either way is a trait of the car and unfixable?
  3. Many years ago I put a very large Christmas tree in a Corrado for a short journey. Netted; Blanket wrapped; seats down and with 1 passenger. The stump was pretty much touching the windscreen next to the rear view mirror and the top was curved around in the boot. 7 foot easily if not 8. I'm older and wiser and wouldn't do it again. :camp:
  4. I've had two done, one was like factory fit the other not so good. Recently the filler/finishing trim started to lift so I went to my local RAC auto windscreens, on approach they cowered behind the desk. They immediately said I hope you don't want a screen in the Corrado do you? I asked why and they said they are just about the hardest car they've ever had to do to get right. One tech said he'd done a few and he was honest and said he's never been 100% happy with the results. Appently the technique of fitting is unique and difficult, from what I remember him saying, the metal trim down the edges it part of the screen and they have to put the sealant on, put the screen in and move it around to force the sealant through the gaps (between glass and body). At a point that its of sufficent tackyness (a technical term) they push the finishing trim into place and squish and trap it(again slightly moving the glass around). This they say is hard to do and why most fitters make a mess, also hard to know if the finishing trim is bonded fully. If the finishing trim does come out it impossible to reseat it properly (eventually I will have to have the screen out again to get the trim properly flush) The advice was from them, if your going to get it done make sure that the technician has done a few before, otherwise your car will be their education. He did however say he would be happy and confident to do mine, and do a much better job than the existing install.
  5. Storm in Mystic (I think) A1 Northbound near Grantham at 9:20 this morning.
  6. When mine were done at just over a 100k there was barely any wear on tensioners, I guess you just don't know until you get at them. On the other hand my clutch was quite worn and there was a couple of hair line cracks.
  7. Yeah, you have a point its always going to be subjective but interesting read all the same. Given its 'drivers cars' I guess its about the whole experience? e.g. how it goes and makes you feel too? In that I'd for one disagree that the Pug 306 Rallye (63) is in above the likes of Mcl F1 (71) and say the integrale (84). Eitherway I'm pleased they had the sense to include the Corrado  oh and what is EVOs obsession with Renaults (especially ones with :camp: stickers on) they seem to be a bit on their own with that one.
  8. Latest EVO mag arrived today and they've done a top 100 Greatest Drivers Cars and the Corrado VR6 made it in at 98   (though with a pic of something non VR6 in nuggut flavour) given that its only just behind the likes of 355, E60 M5, Cerb and Vanquish S I'd say its a job well done.
  9. :gag: I feel for you. I recall not kerbing an alloy in about 8 years. I then imported some nice RCs but just a couple of very minor blemishes, so I had them touched up. Then, less than 24hrs later I promptly belted two of them on a narrow unfinished road a few meters from my front door. Bad words followed :bad-words: rubbish!
  10. A46 Lincoln today, 5pm (ish) Blue valuer J plate, exchanged waves. That'll be my one spot done for a few more 1000 miles :D
  11. Which corrado do you have - VR6 Any modifications (DECLARED)- As per sig Do you have a thatham 1 alarm - yes How old are you - 30 how many NCB do you have - 9 Who are you insured with - Brentacre Is it TPFT or Fully Comp - Fully Comp How much do you pay - 390I think. £350 excess ok postcode, off road parking, but a requirement for high mileage this year (18k) pushed it - was £325 for I found real agreed value polices horrific in price, I might be wrong but if you have agreed value you'll have some sort of gap insurance policy too (it spans gap between insurance payout and agreed value in a total loss situation) . For years thought I had agreed value but the fact you have a value on your policy is rubbish to some extent. That figure is like a maximum they use to calculate your premium. In many cases they'll still get out parkers and offer you the book price. So, a happy compromise is a friendly broker who knows there stuff and will fight your corner if required (why I am with brentacre). So keep all your records and reciepts with plenty of photos so if the worse did happen you have a far better chance of getting true market value not parkers book price. Also, if you have power changing mods I think you'll be better at brentacre, their approach is better than Flux in my opinion (unless its changed) agree the power which they'll use for quote theb you can list all the other mods, make not odds (within reason, at least mine didn't effect it)
  12. 357 407 182 is the front/inner for sure from VW. If you want uprated then r32/TT rear one then go for 8N0 407 181 B (at an audi garage) it will be listed as TT 3.2.
  13. I think thats what this emoticon is for.... :epicfail:
  14. I'd heard that he never gave up all the training so that it was possible to get in an F1 car again.. all that cornering g force on your neck. I think it will be an outstanding season wind up now, so open, but lets start the betting on who Schuey punts off first ;-) I am torn between wanting to see him make a dream return and not wanting to see is smugness again :gag:
  15. Oil is mainly traded in $, you need to buy $ to buy Oil, this gives the states lots of control of course. So, expensive $ mean expensive fuel. When Oil bottomed, the £ was very weak which stopped fuel going very cheap. Now we are being hit with oil going up at a time where the £ is still weak hence a sharp climb again and no doubt will exceed previous highs soon enough at the pump. Lets not get started on duty! There was a country that started up a Euro Oil trade system to stop the $ stranglehold, Some would say they were not too popular with the US doing this. Little old Iran carried on though. :norty:
  16. Sheffield this afternoon near Meadow Hell, a p'urple' corrado spotted by my wife :D number plate A11 or ALL?
  17. I guess that depends on what you think affordable. I do think that they'll hold prices in the short term then get an absolute spanking just because of the running costs. If you were in the position to spend that kind of money on running costs, would you run around in a few year old nissan? Personally I'd rather have a GT3 as a toy so I can track it without it having a service light fit at me. Has anyone read about the V spec GTR and its £36,000 brakes, they'll be a fun item to replace
  18. WD40 is the answer as the key mech drys out, I used it for the same problem about 6months ago and it cured it but I still carry a can in the car incase. You only need a tiny bit and then move your key in and out a lot but leave a min or two before trying as I guess there is a small fire risk from the solvent. If you want to play it safe change the ignition (i've not bothered) 8)
  19. Black L Plate VR6 nice 5 spokes and half smoked rears parked up at the Woodcocks pub, buton, Lincoln. Today around 3pm. You even had the same child seat as me in the back :D
  20. Boo, I hoped mine would be rare too  and now they are as rare a my Karmann Leather Sport Storm secial edition interior :camp: My Dad tried to explain what they were for and why, but they just said how many and passed them over but sounds like its not uncommon for the dealers to be asked. I'm hoping the lower clip is strong enough to tollerate regular plate changes.
  21. Been using velcro until now, but my folks drove past a VW dealer in the middle of Osnabruck the other day now I have these 8)
  22. That sucks. I'll be sure to keep an eye out. Not seen another mystic in Lincoln for ages. As said above, its amazing the effort they'd go to get an old car.
  23. Thursday 30th, 16:30ish, A1 South bound Grantham area. Think it was a Green Storm? I was heading north so it was a very brief look.
  24. Does it look like this? In exchange for beans?
  25. They are very good at putting up the prices quickly because they can but very slow to come down. Few reasons they argue for this, one being that they buy stock many weeks/months in advance but either way its contradictory and all about profits at the end of the day. Recent lows of oil price have been offset by the value of the £, if we were still getting $2 to the pound we would have very cheap fuel indeed as you need dollars to buy on the oil markets. Apologies about going off topic even further but its a subject that enrages me, no single country should be allowed such control over global matters :hitler: , consider the power the states has in the oil markets if you have to buy dollars to trade. Now imagine if someone tried to create another oil market in another currency, say Euros. This would undermind the control the states has and indeed effect the value of the dollar. How do you think the US would react to such a move? Well, a forerunner of Euro based oil market was Iran. I'll let you draw your own conclusions.
