  1. Wow those pics really do show how bad it was before... but is it coming up ok with a bit of buffing action? :)
  2. I think new wings are almost £300 new and will need painting. That looks like it's probably repairable though, so I'd take it to a local bodyshop to see what they'd quote to fix it :)
  3. I wonder how much it cost to fit that miniature black hole inside the car
  4. I had to make up for 2 weeks of cheese and hamlessness... I am feeling rather bloated now though!
  5. I finally got around to going food shopping today and had cheese for the first time in almost 2 weeks. 3 different types too :norty:
  6. Do it at the same time you're doing the chains, you'll have more room in the bay then :norty: Well that had crossed my mind...
  7. Yeah, on a slightly more constructive note - he got pulled over for having a blowing exhaust, a stupidly low suspension setup that looked dangerous, an iron cross obscuring his rear brake light(s), yellow headlights and ratty-looking grey paint. He then proceeded to give the officer a mouthful... TBH if it was me that pulled him over, I'd have told him to go forth and multiply too.
  8. I think I just broke out in a rash attempting to read that.
  9. Yeah, the guy at work's got a 3.0 TDI Quattro one and it doesn't hang about!
  10. A PS3 from Wal-Mart... they're $400 (i.e. £100 cheaper than here) and come with a $100 Wal-Mart gift certificate at the moment, so if you buy a couple of games too - they're effectively free! 8)
  11. I have to say that I really didn't like A5s or the new TTs on paper - they just looked wrong, but actually seeing them in the metal has completely changed my mind. On the opposing side - R8s look awesome in all the dark and moody promotional material, but someone around here has one in red...and it looks gash  ...does sound purdy though :norty:
  12. Yeah, I think most of that info's come from you  Gotta acquire the bits before I get too carried away and timing chains are needin' a doin' first...
  13. Gah, damn you for bringing this up again - I'd managed to convince myself that now I've got working heater controls, I really don't need to do this. Buuut I'm on a roll after finishing the stereo install, so how hard could it be... Especially as I've already got a Mk4 Climatronic fan box and compressor... hmm... There's also a nice little bundle of info here that I've collected which may be of use to anyone attempting this: 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf

    Dodgy horn

I'd check the wiring and metal contacts inside the steering wheel for a start, but it sounds like there's a dodgy earth somewhere.
  15. My advice would also be sound deadening in the door. It makes a noticable difference and gives you a bit more of a quality feel to the car. Second Skin Damplifier is the best stuff I've played with so far 8) But yes, as above, there's no replacement for inches :norty:
  16. Funnily enough, the worst convoy I've ever been in was getting across MK as part of a meet once. Everybody drove like lunatics jumping lights, nailing it at every opportunity, driving far too close to each other and diving in and out of lanes at the last minute. I gave up trying to follow them fairly quickly.

    Missing engine

...and I was going to suggest looking under the bonnet  :(
  18. Sounds like it could well be... worth checking :D
  19. Search is your friend viewtopic.php?f=1&t=68720 8)
  20. It could be any of the following (in order of ascending cost): Basic settings could do with re-learning You can do this via VAG-COM, but doesn't seem to always make much of a difference Split breather pipe It's on the top left of the engine - round thing that might be covered in gunk and split and thus sucking air in that the engine doesn't know about (highly likely) Dead MAF The air flow sensor isn't actually registering how much air is flowing into the engine, so the ECU is having to guess. If you run the engine and let it idle, unplug the MAF (big 2" or so connector on the wide pipe that comes up to the engine from the airbox) and see what happens. If nothing happens then it's probably broken, if the engine coughs and splutters and possibly dies then it's OK. Dead lambda The exhaust oxygen sensor isn't registering how well the engine is burning the fuel, so again the ECU is having to guess. If it's nothing obvious like the breather valve, then the best bet is to get it hooked up to VAG-COM to see what it says.
