  1. I would freaking love an Exige. I've had a few blats out on airfield days in Elises and a blat around a track in an Exige and they really are awesome. I think they're probably a bit too hardcore for the daily drive, but they're amazing on track as well as looking fantastic too. The S2s with the Toyota engines are supposed to be much more reliable than the old K-Series ones which have a bit of a habit of munching head gaskets if you look at them a bit funny. I do keep thinking about getting one, but there's no way I could afford one and I've already got 2 Corrados that I don't have a garage for. An Exige as well would just be stupid  I've also just seen pics of the Lotus Evora which is actually sex on wheels, although even more out of my price-range at £50k or so :( And they're very similar handling wise to the Caterhams, but with better aerodynamics. That's a bit like saying Corrados handle similarly to Golfs though... it depends very much on how mentally modified the Golf is. The Caterhams are hugely variable in the size and type of engines that people put in them and the Exiges aren't really all that fast in a straight line.
  2. The VRs run hot. Sounds like you're a bit too paranoid
  3. I could believe that he did roll it. Cameras don't like being thrown about a lot as it's hard to get the heads to keep a decent signal onto the magnetic tape. The picture will break up as he rolls and come back after. Having said that, a lot of stuff is staged, so meh whatever. It's good fun to watch, so what do you care? Besides, this is *so* last week...
  4. You probably won't be getting the brake bias valve off without breaking it, so I'd buy a new one before you start (about £70) getting the bushes out of the axle is also a cock of a job - as is pressing them in without the proper tool. Tyres are made up of lots of layers of rubber on top of each other. If they start breaking apart, it's called delaminating and could well be causing weird noises. It doesn't usually happen for no reason - it's often the cause of having bad wheel alignment and/or kerbing them badly or getting a puncture. If the stub axle is bent, then it'll need replacing as the bearings won't run true on it. However, if it is only ever so slightly bent and/or the rear axle is very slightly bent, you can use the spacers to make the wheels point straight again.
  5. What the hell's Australia got to do with things? :?
  6. I know nothing about bleeding brakes, but um... aren't redstuff pads for track use only? I'm sure they need to be rather toasty before they do anything useful so might be a bit hairy first thing in the morning! :?
  7. Er, don't think so. The disks from VAG are £40+VAT from VAG, £30+VAT if you've got a TPS account.
  8. Sounds like I might be coming along to "help" a bit too... have you got all the parts you need and/or want me to get you anything from TPS? I'd go for VAG disks and some Mintex C-Tech (M1144)s.
  9. Well you're more than welcome to try it in my car, but it's a fair old drive for a 5 minute plug and play test. All you need to test it is a 12v feed from the/a car battery and some kind of RCA signal going into it. You may also need a second feed from the battery to switch it on, but that can easily be lashed up for testing.
  10. Err tricky one - if you don't know whether the temp gauge on the dash is lying or not, then it's hard to say whether the fans should be on or not while the engine is running...
  11. Cheater  Edit: And that doesn't include the tensioner bolt, which is fairly hefty... so I'd go for more like 2.75kg :D ...assuming that you'd want to go with the Mk4 setup, rather than the slightly crapper standard Corrado setup...
  12. First of all, I'd get it plugged into VAG-COM and see if the coolant temperature that it reports (Blue temp sensor) matches what the gauge on the dash says (yellow sensor). If they're hugely different numbers (i.e. the ECU one is reading much lower) then I'd wager the yellow sensor is kaputt and lying about the temps being too hot.
  13. Size wise - not all that big. There's a pic of what's included on the Four Season site here - http://www.fourseasontuning.com/?product=14# The guides are just plastic and thus not very heavy, but the chains and tensioners are pretty much solid metal so a little on the weighty side. For size reference - the tensioner bolt (brass bit inside the chain in the pic) is about 10cm long. I'd say they're more like 4kg total weight though...
  14. You want a 4-wheel (not just 2) laser alignment and make sure they check the front camber too. The machine should have all the settings they need stored in it.
  15. If you call a local reputable bodyshop, they can probably recommend a place that has the proper 4-wheel laser alignment rig. And if the stub axle is slightly bent you might not notice it just looking at it, but the laser rig will show it up right away.
  16. Aye, that's also possible - anything like that should show up when they do the 4-wheel alignment though.
  17. The only things that could be causing a drone like that on the back of the car would be wheel bearings or tyres. If you're getting uneven tyre wear, then it's almost certainly the tyres making the noise so get a proper 4-wheel alignment done on a laser rig and that should sort it out. You may need new rear tyres to get it completely sorted as they may be beyond the point of saving, but worth a shot anyway. It's always good to get your alignment done every year, if not more often to make sure the car's handling properly and the tyres are wearing evenly.

    What's this?

Yup, looks like to me, but that's a damned weird place to mount them!
  19. Noooooo you can't do it! Sadly, I think you'll struggle to get anywhere near £4.5k for it with Corrado prices the way they are at the moment... so best keep it and drive it instead :D
  20. As above, the tensioner pulley bearing will most likely be what's squealing - if not, then could be the water pump. You can cut the bearing out of the plastic pulley and press in a new bearing (there's a wiki article on how to do it), or Gruvenparts make aluminium ones that are a bit stronger instead. http://gruvenparts.com/website/cart/car ... gory_id=60 Mind you, it'll probably be just as cheap to buy a new tensioner from vwspares by the time you've shipped a single pulley across from the USA.
  21. Ah by far the best colour and model Corrado 8) I've got 2 satin silver VRs at the moment, but they are one of the rarer combos, that's for sure.
  22. To set up an account, you phone your local branch and blag it from there. They deliver to you (for free), but it needs to be a registered business address - they don't deliver to private addresses. You usually get 10% on everything, then a bigger parts club discount on all consumable parts - prices for which are on the TPS website (once you've got an account).
  23. Holy flashbacks to page 1, Batman... Not sure how much gold is as I've never bought it, but it'll be significantly cheaper than your dealer (if find out how much silver is from the stealer, you can work out the percentage difference to give you an idea on saving)
  24. I'd like to point out that putting fish in your engine is neither good for the engine or the fish...
