Duly noted for my next oil change. Do you need anything special to buy stuff from them, or can you just walk in off the street?
-
God, is my little flyer thing still up on the notice board?
-
It does sound rather like the alarm is refusing to disarm, which is leaving the engine immobilised - Are you sure the battery is taking the charge fully? Do the headlights come on brightly, or just a dim glow? Does the engine try and turn over? i.e. do you hear the solenoid clack engaging for the starter and/or the lights dim a bit as you try to turn it over?

Sounds like a brand of older ladies sanitiary wear! 'Tyvek medium, for those days when you dribble a bit' Thanks for that image Yan

Land Rover 101 Ambulance: Back off and on ground Pg3

Erm, WTF?? -
Aye, I just did the visible bits on mine. Far easier. Halfords sell the Folia Tec stuff for about £18 last time I looked, might be able to get it online cheaper though.

TBH the paint sticks like shit to a blanket, so those look more than clean enough. The brake cleaner will get any slime and grease off, so the paint should stick ok. Just make they're nice and dry before you start painting. As said - don't paint any of the inside edges of the carriers (i.e. pretty much any part of the carrier you can see in that second pic) as the brake pads slide along that that bit. Also make sure you don't put anything in any bolt holes or around the piston and you should be ok.
-
:D I did that and it worked for a while, but I checked again this time mine came up for renewal and the premium went up when I did.
-
Ah but if you've got a filthy oil-covered engine or somesuch you want to lug from one part of the country to another...
-
Yeah, I used it on mine - it's fantastic stuff, if a little pricey. I did my callipers with it over 2yrs ago now and they still look shiney and new. You get a spray can of brake cleaner and 2 pots of stuff you have to mix up and brush on (doesn't come with a brush and any brush you use will be destroyed afterwards). Make sure you've got everything all laid out before you mix the two pots of stuff together, because once they're mixed you've got an hour or so before it gets too thick to paint any more. Don't spill it on anything because you'll never get it off/out - even paint stripper won't budge it.

There's a GB for a 280mm rear setup somewhere on here...

Trade Parts Specialist :)
-
 Probably. I've stopped it from going nuts for now, just want to get it set up properly...
-
You can try it now - it's only 4pm on the east coast :)
-
Probably not, but it'd be worth giving Bill Schimmel a call to see if he can get you one and how much it'd be.
-
Yeah, I already had a look on there. Sadly they only offer the info if you pay for it... and I'm too tight for that
-
Sorry, I meant to make it into a link and forgot  http://www.schimmelperformance.com/ Cheesewire's bought pretty much all of his engine from him  Otherwise Bahn Brenner seem to have a fairly good reputation, but never had any dealings with them, so can't say for sure.

Schimmel?

Ah bums ok. Audioscape do Auto Watch alarms, so they might be able to help. I also need a new key fob (only have one) and the emergency de-activate key too...
-
I'd also do the tie-rods too as the joints/bushes on those will probably be shagged too. I certainly wouldn't take it to VW to get that done as it'll cost you both arms and legs. I'd wager a job like that at a VW specialist would probably cost you somewhere in the region of £700. It will feel like a completely new car afterwards though...

Heh nah they were all for the old alarms. The guy did say something about double locking it when I bought it, but didn't get what he meant at the time.
-
Hehe, luckily they'd all buggered off to work by the time I snuck out to go to work...
