Er, no, job enforced move and not quite in Kings Lynn, more Marham, but moving again in a fortnight thankfully. Jim, got someone lined up for the ECU MAP, will be even closer shortly so that will be easier.
-
Well a productive couple of days, sorted out the under-reading speedo post original gauge refit as I had stuck it on a bit high. Finally got the brake pedal feel back, I had swapped out the brake master cylinder a few weeks ago but it was too wet and cold to re-bleed the brakes, did that today and whilst not as sharp as it used to be at least it feels like its working again. MOT booked for tomorrow although the emissions will be tight as it still needs an ECU MAP (this year!!) and to cap it all off I have just renewed the insurance for under £250 fully comp all mods declared.
-
Exactly, not that I think that stretching is particularly safe having spent 2 weeks of my life studying tyre construction, but you would be amazed how quickly the tyre would be cut through with a big bump on a dual carriageway.
-
I don't know who is doing the MOT tests on your car but they need their license removing as that's just plain dangerous. Hopefully you can get it sorted without too much hassle but you run the risk of a high speed tyre failure which may result in you killing someone driving around like that.

Terrible nonsense, I hated the tag line 'everyone's talking about it' as I wasn't. Thank chuff the Mrs does not watch that rubbish.

Plus suspension refers to the widetrack variant fitted to the VR6s. There are some elements in last production year that get standardised across the range like the top mounts etc.
-
Lovely job so far, if you are after a good paint finish for aluminium in the engine bay that can stand up to the temperatures I can recommend Alumablast.
-
I think condition is king now but more folks want VRs as they are more well known by the general public. The G60 is already a niche engine, that will reach a point where a lot of folks will have no idea what it is and there will be a resultant lack of demand for them. As for the valvers - I can't see many kicking about in the really long term as they tend to be the 1st to be broken and abused as they are cheaper to buy and run.
-
It's the time of year as much as anything else, give it another month and if the weather is ok more people will be looking at older cars. Price seems about right although the mods may be putting some people off.
-
As yours is an early valver it lives in the brake cooling duct instead - same area although it will be inside the cooling duct - bit of a pain to get to and unclip compared to the later fitting.

No pics but it is an outdoor one. It's double skinned with a UV barrier layer on the outside, looks like a large silver sausage and everyone seems to think there is a boat in it. It's stretched a little since I put it up and its kinda sheltered but not massively so. I went for the 2nd size but I would recommend the extra wide version as it could do with the extra width. It does have some good features and is well thought out although you have to be careful removing the cover as the fan assemblies are integral to the cover. It is cheaper than a garage and seem to be doing a better job of regulating the environment for the car too. I am interested in how it is going to hold up over the winter months, aside from snow making it collapse a bit (although the shape would mean the snow falls off) I don't expect any issues. As for cost, the car has always been garaged for its 25 years of life, so it would be shame to leave it out in all weathers.

I am down this way now but since arriving in Jan have been away for 6 months and heading off again soon.

Small update, after spending most of this year away with work very little has happened to the car aside from it now lives 500 miles further south and resides in a Carcoon instead of a garage. Unpacked it from the Carcoon on Saturday afternoon and aside from some light brake disc corrosion (which will be a result of the car going in soaking wet post wash and it was raining hard that day) all is well so I am very pleased with the way the Carcoon has performed. Took her out for a quick blat just to move things around, still runs badly at idle but a foot full of throttle coming off the Swaffham roundabout in 2nd gear was good fun! Might actually get a proper ECU map sorted next year..

The red/grey seats were only available in a Corrado up to 1991, it is the same pattern as the mk 2 Golf but the seat is different and as some folks have pointed out will also be 2 way adjustable. As for the rarity, they are fairly rare, there was also a blue stripe version that I have seen more of over the years.
-
Just took mine out of the Carcoon on Saturday for a quick spin pre-winter arrival, its kept the car in superb condition and having previous had a cover on a different car that made the paint blister I would go for a Carcoon instead.
-
I used to have a breathable cover on a car I owned, it eventually made the paint bubble due to moisture. Since I moved earlier this year the Corrado has lived in an outdoor Carcoon, its an inflatable bubble, so far so good despite so strong winds etc. Not cheap and they take around 4 weeks to manufacture.

Not an original part Mike, should be oil pressure and battery volts. However, there are a few online suppliers sell a similar style gauge as per the one the photo (ie a VDO manufactured one). Try ARZ tuning, they are based in Germany but do a boost gauge like that.
-
Halfords ones don't seem to last as long as they used to, on a different tack what battery charger are you using? I know my old one would not charge some batteries I had but the CTEK MKS 5.0 I bought to replace it managed to recover a few I though were dead.
-
Sadly not, left most of my spares up North when we moved down here as no room for them.
-
Nah Jim is on about me, although mine is currently parked at the end of the SNECS mess car park until later this week when I put it on the drive in an inflatable tent as I can't get a garage. Just heading out to afghan for 4 months on Sunday but if need a hand with anything when I get back give me a shout.

The spoiler, actual aerodynamic aid or marketing ploy?
Yandards replied to Roger Chatfield's topic in General Car Chat
Nope if you have a factory fitted set of electric windows they all do it, later models do the sunroof as an extra though. There are some models kicking around that have been converted from manual windows that don't do it though. All models should do it, if they don't something in the central locking system is broken or an 'alarm fitter' has broken it instead. Did you also know if you hold the key in the open position is works the other way around, ie the windows open. As for the spoiler, the evidence provided by VWs wind tunnel tests indicate a significant amount of downforce/lift prevention by using the spoiler, if you watch the movement on the rear of the car in the video the suspension is compressed by quite a large amount when the spoiler is deployed. As for speeds, here are the facts, the original design called for a spoiler deployment speed of 72mph - the German cars have spoiler control modules that operate at the speed as testing revealed that was the optimum point to deploy the spoiler for handling. Obviously in the UK that is 2mph over the limit so it was reduced to 47mph for UK use - all early cars have this type of spoiler control module. When the VR came in (and I am not sure if this applies to all models after VR introduction or just the VR) the limit was raised to 55mph. -
Guy on ebay used to do them, although I think they were just the hybrid brake lines with the correct attaching bits and painted silver. Reasonable quality I replaced both the 16vG

Locking this up then as its resolved.

New show on Ch4, "For the Love of Cars"
Yandards replied to Roger Chatfield's topic in General Car Chat
Enjoyable enough, Philip Glenister does add some fun to it but it also felt like a bit of an ad for Harris Performance and aside from the brief trip to Liverpool it was very much a cockney based episode. Although I don't expect to see many Londoners in the Land Rover one coming up..
