  1. I want to take the calipers off, and give them a good clean (they are quite rusty) and general refurbishment, but i need them off the car to do it. Is this a very difficult job to do? What does it involve in terms of time required / helpers required / tools required? Is it "Specialist" stuff, or can someone thats reasonably good at mechanics do it? (lots of) advice needed please.

the 90mm will catch on most speed bumps, and coming out of driveways and petrol stations. Mine has split in the corners, but im just living with it for the same reason that coulstar says. I like the low look of the 90mm. The other thing is that they rub but are really quite robust considering they look like they will snap off. mine has taken some fair old knocks, and is still ok overall. its just the corners that are cracked.
  3. dont blame you one bit mate. I dont drive mine much now, as i have inherited my wifes old golf. (a banger, but great fun) I ought to sell the C, but its just too hard to let go of such a great car.
  4. looks lovely. should have no problem selling it with that mileage and the leather. Isnt it worth a bit more than that with that low mileage? Have you got FSH with it?
  5. my wife always has to have a name for her cars. Last was was Figo. Current one is Bo-bo. I dont have names, but my neice calls my green 1303 Beetle "The Apple" As for the Corrado, its just referred to as the VR.
  6. Main dealers are such w@nkers. The "biggest" in Leicester are the worst. The parts person sits there like hes doing you a favour, or as though HE is having to pay for the part you are trying to order... Sometimes, i feel like putting a grenade in his mouth.

    BBS Split Rims

i have mine lowered with Standard Speedlines, and although it doesnt look as good as the 16's, still looks seriously good. Am actually considering leaving it with the 15s cos the ride is so much more comfortable. Will try and get you some pics of mine too.
  8. will he do mine for me too? They look fantastic.
  9. yeah! nice to see im not the only who enjoys flying over speed bumps in a courtesy car. dont forget to redline it every gear. New cars have that restrictor thing so the revs only go a certain way, then it makes that stupid sound. What the hell! You wouldnt dream of doing it in your Corrado, so you might as well thrapse the liyyle Pug til it cries. There's nothing quite like the smell of a thrashed engine, brakes and clutch when you get out. Especially when its a courtesy car.

be sure what size you want and what you want to achieve from the wheel change. The difference in ride quality is huge just with a 1" diameter difference. I went for 16's cos all the advice i had is that C's find 17's a bit too hardcore, but at the same time, there are loads of people with 17s that im sure think they are fine. I have had to put 15's back on temprorarily, and it dont corner anywhere near as well. However, it feels like a rolls royce over small bumps etc. Those pics look well nice btw!

    Magnex exhaust

my 2p's worth is that the Magnex sounds and looks amazing, and i have no problems with it whatsoever. Also looks nice a stock with that oval tip.
  12. i think its ok, but would want to see it on a car first. would want to know how it attaches on and the paint options etc.
  13. *scratches his head* i think im gonna speak to a couple of people who are quite competent at this sort of stuff, and see if i can get decent help. I dont think i feel confident tackling this totally on my own just yet. Will keep an eye on this thread in the meantime.
  14. does the chain need setting like a timing belt? I ask this cos someone i know did his own on his cossy and set it wrong ending up breaking all the valves, and costing a small fortune. I genuinely dont mind doing it myself, i just thought it required lots of specialist tools and lifting equipment etc.
  15. well, i dont want to be in denail either. Mines approaching the 100k milestone, and need to bear it mind as the next thing i do. No way i can do this myself tho, so anyone got any recomendations for places around the midlands? How much you think i should expect to pay?
  16. Sodding-F@cking-typical! My tax is due at the end of May!
  17. GradeA, I had the exact same thing happen - driving down the A47 at night, and feel a huge bang  as the car fell into this pothole, the wheel has an awful dent in it, and the tyre totally mullered. Thing is, it happened 40 miles away from where i live (and at night). When i went back, the bar-stewards had covered the hole and the whole area of the road. I'm in a similar dilema to you. I have a set of 16" Borbet C'c with an (apparently) unusual offset. They dont make them anymore, and Scotford dont have any left in stock. I've had to put the old 15" Speedlines back on, and it dont look anything like as good as it did. :( Now ive got to live with that horrible "Been shafted again depsite paying £165 a year on road tax" feeling. The Fockers - if they had road markings, this would have been totally unavoidable.
  18. how did you get on with the search Coley? I got mine from Halfords, and the finish looks factory. Benji is spot on... The product is made by FoliaTech and strangely enough is called Tail light tiniting spray. Let me know if you still have no joy, our halfords always have the stuff in store.
  19. Was that you on the M1 the other night? (Thursday, northbound, and turned off to go down the M6) I didnt put this in Corrado Spotting thread as i was not in my C, so you probably wouldnt have thought to look in that thread. Your car looked forking lovely mate.
  20. Dont know if this will be of any help to you or not... I use a company called Peter Best Insurance for my Karmann Ghia. Restricted on mileage etc, but Fully comp in under £90. you can give them a call on 01621 840400. The VR is with Privilege and costs me under £500 a year Fully Comp.
  21. Just another factor to throw into the melting pot... The clutch pedal doesnt have that springy feel when i release it, and it doesn't come all the way back up as it used to. It sort of stops midway, and to get it back, i have to get my foot around the back of the pedal and flip it back up. :?
  22. Is my clutch on its way out? I find that I have to press the clutch right down to the bottom of the floor, and then some, to get it to change gear without making that horrible crunching sound. At the same time, pulling away etc, i find that the biting point is just a tiny lift off from that position. Takes some getting used to, in order to avoid a harsh jolt. The mileage is some 93k, and i dont know if it has ever been changed in its life. Anyone got any similar experiences, or care to shed some light on this? Cheers. Secondly, so i dont get ripped off or lied to by whatever garage i go to, what does it involve to change? Gearbox out job?
  23. They look lovely! I wish i could have them on mine!
  24. im giving my car to a guy next week for the arches to be modified as my car tyres are catching / hitting and scraping all the time when there are people in the car, especially when there are people and it is full of fuel and over bumps etc. He said that he will have to grind the lip away from the arches from the inside, because if he tries to fold them, they will crease the outside. im confused. anyone got any experience?
  25. OK.... the 194bhp was definitely at the wheels...>>>> Just kidding. (just wanted to imagine what everyones eyes would look like when they read that).... that figure was at the flywheel. i wish it was at the wheels tho. Second point.... Pablo, you may not have anything wrong with the CPS. The first port of call i would have thought, would be to get the car plugged into the VAG COM jobbie, as this may tell you other things that you need to know. Although, since you have a spare, i guess it would be worth it just as a trial and error sort of thing, as it will oinly cost you your time. Thirdly... Yes, the CPS did make a huge difference. I can honestly say that it feels like a different car altogether. (That enourmous grin Jim refers to is still apparent on my face every time i floor the loud pedal). Like Kevhaywire says, when this sensor is faulty, it makes the car run on like a "safe" mode, just to make sure nothing untowards happens, and as a result, doesnt give out maximum power. As for where it is, i think the guys at Stealth unplugged the HT leads and undone a cover or two around there, but unfortunatley, im not knowledgeable enough to give you full tekky details on that one. I bet that there are people in here that are tho. hope this helps mate. good luck. let us know how you get on.
