Elora are the daddy, better than Snap-on I reckon. Halfords ones are very good too unless they are really seized (I have seen the jaws on mine open slightly on really rusty stuff)
-
The adjustable columns on some high miles cars (or ones with big wheels / offsets etc) are showing wear now - my steering on the TDI was completely transformed after changing to a fixed column amnd it had already had most parts replaces ones including the rack, Track rods all the bushes etc
-
I'd look at leads first... one trick is to clip a timing light to each one in turn to see if you can see a missfire.
-
They hardly wear to be honest but they are only £4 each... I bought new ones as I had to saw the old ones off when I got mine blasted and powdercoated. They are a git to press in too!
-
Could be timing or CO not setup correctly or a faulty sensor
-
They are sealed from the factory to the body so you need to heat them a bit to get them off without bending them too much but they are a bolt on part basically so perfectly do-able. Best for a summer job though really!
-
Obviously not I'd say.... what exactly was done - engine rebuild??
-
Nice - cheap fix then!
-
Yeah deffo get the charger done, especially at that mileage! You can take the little plastic cover off and inspect the timing belt but it really needs opening up and checking properly.
-
Blimey! If you are doing the water pump then the charger needs to come off - I'd get that rebuilt asap!
-
Assuming it's a VR6 then it's simples... All you need is an M8 x 80 bolt

Hello - if you search under 'part number' rather than doing an ATP then it will show you what it supersedes to. I think that one is not EDL and the one with a B suffix is IIRC - You're not missing much anyway, EDL was a fairly basic version of Traction control, if you want it I would fit one of the kits that Vince mentioned in the Stealth Turbo thread.

Uprated bulbs: Phillps Vs Osram, opinions required.

No you need H3's and H4's - H4 are the main bulb and H3 are the inner ones (same as the fogs use) I'm using X-treme's for my H4's and they are the best bulbs i've tried yet! -
Yep, and make sure your engine mounts are good and no oil leaks before fitting the new stuff!
-
You have a 5 dr Corrado !?! :) They are all side and front / rear specific - around £50 each from VW for a MK3, easy enough to change.

Very nice, particuarly if someone wants heated cloth rather than leather! How much was it? Worth getting a proper switch to finish it off!
-
Haha - I nearly spat my Tea when I read that!
-
Yep - 2 allen head bolts on the bit that the lock latches too (near the VW badge) Usually tailgate rattles come from the shelf moving about because the foam dampers are missing.

Bloody hell mate! I take it thats not your daily driver? I think living in Jersey helps, in fact 5k of those miles was in reverse! :) Seriously though Sean, how many of those 18k miles do you think you've done driving to garages to actually get stuff done to the car? Stealth, RK etc?

Waxoyl is rubbish - like Hammerite (who make it I think) Far better products out there - the VW cavity wax is the best I've used but the 3M stuff that body shop / paint supply places do is very similar.
-
Yeah weak springs... as long as the butterfly is moving freely. My mate had this on a Golf that had done mega miles (220K I think) - fairly sure he just swapped the TB to resolve it.
-
My TDI has done 253k miles now!

If you don't touch the actual brackets that bolt to the car then you shouldn't need alignment as long as the thrust angle is in spec now. Main issue is the brakes, you might want to think about a new compensator / bracket and all new lines, new bolts for everything and new brake shields.
