Hard to diagnose with it being intermittent. Leave the lower shelves off, so when it next happens put a finger on each relay and it'll pinpoint if it's this or not mate.
-
I'd say your starter motor has had it as you've said, as even if your timing was out it would still turn over. The high idle is probably unrelated and a desperate issue.

Ahaaaa! I'll get my coat..........:silent:

Look ace, I love them in this colour! And don't diss the Saab 93 deisel, I have one!...........
-
Good choice sir!:thumbleft:
-
Think they are still available actually, but Topran are ok as far as things like this go imo.
-
Dont think they are available from the Dealer anymore, but have a look in the suppliers forum, theres someone down in deapest darkest Cornall iirc who makes the hard lines to original spec for a good price. The flexi pipes are still readily available so you should have no bother sourcing that bud.

Haha, I did hear a rumour VW are moving the museum from Wolfsberg to Waterlooville  Cozy has done more mileage than you in the Seven! Now get back to work young man...... :ignore:

Already in my ebay watch list buddy! Could really do with a new rad top cover tbh as the threads are stripped on mine and it rattles about. Will get them when I get a new cover. Cheers for going to the effort of putting the links up though!
-
Cheers for the tip about the rubber wheel Matt, I'll definitely invest in one of those! I've already got some gliptone cleaner and conditioner so all good there mate. Thanks again Sean. I'm hoping it will have gone from a complete dog to a bit of a pup within a year of buying it! Half way there mate!

Small update as I'm languishing down on page 3! A couple of small bits done. Didn't really like the badgeless grille, and I'd picked up a standard one for nothing a while back but the taps were all broken. I had to buy a new badge, and fabricate some clips with the help of an SMA formula milk tin, a glue gun, and some amalgamating tape. Fits well and much happier with the front end now. Before After I fitted the new sump, but unfortunately I couldn't sort the stripped threads out so need to go back to it. I couldn't get the taps up near the bellhousing properly, and lying under the car on the drive was proving a bit difficult. I'll have to do it on the ramps at work another time. At least I can now change the oil without dropping the whole sump again! New sump painted up in Hammered Black. New Steering wheel arrived from dan95x. Top bloke and another interior bit sorted. Old vs New Decided with the way I want to go with the car atm, I'd take off the side strips. I wasn't sure whether I'd want to keep it as original as possible, but when it gets painted next year they need to come off anyway, and they are still in good nick so very easily put back on with a bit of double sided foam tape. Yes that is my 5 year old daughters Tinkerbell hairdryer and an old Gala bingo card!!! Finito............well, one side anyway! I've got blisters on my thumbs so I'm leaving the weather to do its best and soften the other side! Finally, decided I didn't want a polished inlet manifold anymore as I couldn't be bothered to actually polish it! It hadn't been polished up all that well anyway, and there were a few pitted areas where it needed to be cut back a little more. A tin of Hammered silver and I'm really happy with it! Scuffed a bit putting it back on though on the dipstick guide tube. :censored: I've bought some 288's now so next month will be an expensive one. I'm after some BBS LM reps, (can't afford genuine), I'll get the braided lines and bolts to fit the brakes, new front discs and pads, and I'm gonna get the interior finished by getting the bolster retrimmed, and get the furniture clinic kit to re-colour the lot. I'm hoping to have everything done bar respray in the next few months, then it gives me time to save for respray. I'm off to Plymouth later today for a week, then up to Northumberland for a few days afterward so won't be able to tinker for a couple of weeks.

Depending on exactly where and when, I wouldnt mind a little pootle along as it only an hour or so away. Weekend would be best for me due to work and family etc. Be good to have a little drive afterward if there is some nice scenery and/or roads the area too. Well done for organising Fay! :thumbleft:
-
Cheers buddy. Well I'll definately been getting the hose kit next month now, I've just bought a set of 288 calipers and carriers off the bay!.
-
No I know mate. 4k for a new set, probably half that for a used set. I'll have to get reps, but my budget is slightly better than £300. The RX228s were something I'd considered though and they do look good. I just think LMs look better imo. A set went on the bay for £175 requiring refirb the other day though. I was just a little too late unfortunately. Not many around in 17" either which is a bugger!
-
Oooh very nice! I really need to invest in a good set of brakes after I realised just how poor the standard 280s are at Castle Combe. As I've got the Speedlines on at the moment though, I think 288s are my limit unfortunately. Where did you get the brake line kit from Matt? Someone put a post in the Drivetrain section a while back asking since they didn't want to deal with Swampy but there was no reply. I'd like to know too as its on the list for next Month! :thumbleft:

A set just finished an hour ago in new unused condition with a starting bid of £299. Not one bid.......... I seriously considered buying them tbh, but I've now made up my mind on a set of LMs.

Rare/Sought After/Desirable Corrado parts - What Ya Got?
seanl82 replied to Jamie's topic in General Car Chat
I've got the FULL Storm package on a car that isn't a Storm! :norty: -
Its 55 on the VR anyway. Earlier models went up at 45, late at 55. Its an easy mod to do if your so inclined as as mentioned theres a guide on CCC. Damned if I can find it though!
-
I'm like a nervous little teenager at MOT time. I have to wait whilst its being done, and just pace about biting my nails! Glad I don't have to do it with the Corrado for another 11 months!
-
I might buy this, just to skip it so no-one else will commit such a sin by fitting it! :nono::gag: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Corrado-16v-G60-VR6-carbon-fiber-spoiler-will-also-fit-all-other-cars-/121155064468?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c35679294

Road Trip!

Big thank you to dan95x! Steering wheel arrived today, well packaged and as described after PMs. He gave me a partial refund even though I said not to worry, and was very honest letting me know his original assessment was slightly incorrect before sending it out. Top bloke, would buy off him again in a flash!
-
As above. Its very easy to get carried away though with painting the engine up, replacing clutch, lightened flywheel, injectors, yada yada...... Again as mentioned though its a pretty simple job actually. I did it on my old mk3 golf and had absolutely no experience with cars AT ALL! Just be meticulous and make sure you label all electrical connectors, take tons of photos each step to refer back if you need to, and put all nuts and bolts in sandwich bags labelled exactly where they go and you won't go wrong. All I needed other than a basic tool kit was a set of spline bits for the driveshafts, and I hired an engine crane. Simples!

Interesting documentary comparing British to German (car) industry
seanl82 replied to Tempest's topic in General Car Chat
I think thats true too. I'm a Weapons Engineering Technician in the Navy, and it may sound bias again but I truly believe/know that as those coming through basic trade training are certainly the smarter and level headed ones. There are obviously exceptions, but in the large part those that choose engineering as a career have far more drive, commitment and enthusiasm than those who choose an (IMO) lesser career. The fact that they will achieve a Foundation Degree with distinction guaranteed, as well as years of experience gives them the jump over those that decide to go to Uni as well I think. If they are smart enough to join as an Officer, a full Degree with honours is what they WILL achieve. The Armed Forces are on a downward spiral like most other industries due to penny pinching bureaucrats, and there is now talk of scrapping the Foundation Degree and making the training more centred around specific roles. This will only diminish the level of competence and intelligence within the Engineering Branch, which really doesn't help matters in the long run, but does save a couple of quid short term. Every person going through professional training and doing the Foundation Degree now has to fill in a questionnaire and are asked as a class what they think about the proposal. Rest assured everyone is fighting against it, as its the only reason 90% of people go onto the course. the measly £120 extra coupled with the responsibility of a Section Head certainly doesn't make it worthwhile, especially as they have changed the the Pension terms as well now! As far as the Class thing goes, this is more evident in the Navy than probably any other Job, although they call it "Tradition." Officers, especially those higher up the food chain, certainly look down on us working class "Ratings," and although they make out they listen to opinions of the "men on the ground," when push comes to shove they follow up on what they think is best. It really is a large part of the Navy this divide in Class, and one of the biggest reasons we have fallen behind most other nations now.
