  1. Ive pretty much lost all my MFA functions but as said I dont care too much about mpg (easy to calculate anyway). The only one I would like back is the oil temp. You wont even get this using the new clocks though as IIRC thier MFA doesnt even show oil temp but it is monitored though.
  2. Its like my cars twin, protectors look nice and subtle. How much better are the 288's over the standard? Might be getting mine fitted this week.
  3. It is, the LCR is one of the best braked cars Ive ever driven. My S3 also had R32 front brakes/calipers and they were really good as well.
  4. Did you also get the humming noise at speed or just the clunking noise?
  5. Recently Ive noticed that when I reverse with left hand down full lock I get a single clunk noise. Ive also noticed a humming noise when turning left and the car is a little skittish when turning out of junctions (although this could be down to not having the geometry set up yet). The clunk sounds like its coming from the right hand side and I can feel a little play in the steering when stationary. I only really noticed this after changing my front struts and at that time I didnt notice any grease from the outer CV boot. Initially I was thinking wheel bearing but looking at previous posts it looks more like a CV. Any thoughts, does this now point to the inner CV joint?
  6. Be wary though. Im pretty sure there was a couple similar on thier that werent quite what they seemed.
  7. Therefore since these are the stock Golf lines I shouldnt have any issues connecting to my hard lines. Anyone else confirm?
  8. Good luck, sounds like you will be happy with the results. Basically a brand new engine by the sounds of it. If you havent already Id look at a LSD as well. I have to agree to a certain extent. I only did it to mine when the engine starting going. It was long term plans but only when the engine went. It just happened a lot quicker than I wanted. I have to admit though I do fancy a VR6T for outright power.
  9. Resurrecting this thread as Im looking to fit mine. I got the whole kit including the brake lines from the Golf still fitted but are these correct to fit onto my car? Its a 94 M. The top end you can see has the pipe crimped/cut from the donor car and would be removed to leave a female connection.
  10. There was an article in Volkswagen Driver a few years ago explaining the process behind going for the VR. VW and Audi both developed solutions and they were both evaluated IIRC. Audi's was a more conventional mutlicylinder I think. Just threw out the magazine before Chritstmas, woops.
  11. Agree with the comments above, keep the wheels and space them out a bit to fill the arches. Apart from that enjoy. Since refitting my standard alloys Ive had so many more people coming up to me in petrol stations etc saying its good to see a clean-ish standard car going about.
  12. Hell yeah. Race bike needs an engine rebuild plus Id like some cans for the Superduke so I think the money for new wheels will be going elsewhere for just now.
  13. Little update, fitted some Koni T/A's with H&R springs on with all new mounts etc. Car feels much better and sits ok giving the sump some decent clearance. Wishbones are pretty much level. Refitted the standard wheels for just now and overall the car feels much much better than before. Just need to get it set up properly now. Still toying with the idea of some 16in wheels though. I have noticed a slight single clunk noise from driveshaft/gearbox when reversing with lock on plus a rumbling when turning left but the wheels dont seem to have any play in the bearings. Any ideas? Used the car over the whole of Chrimbo etc with no issue at all. All I need now is to fit the 288mm brakes and new rears. Heres a quick pick to show new height level and as you can see the roads were a tad dirty.
  14. My mate just picked up decent a 3.2S for less thas 8k. Only thing that put me off is the soft top. Never been a soft top fan.
  15. Was thinking the same. How did you get on with your Boxter? Never really thought about them but here mega cheap just now and Ive always wanted a Porsche.
  16. Yeah, had a set of them already. There ok but looking for something easy to clean. Really liking the standard wheels at the moment, possibly a set of Solitudes.
  17. In all honesty if someone is series then I'll go and take a look whilst at the same time knock some sense into the current owner!!!
  18. I knew Id seen this recently. Not too far from me either http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/808671.htm Hope its not the same guy as it looks he doesnt have a clue what car he has.
  19. How much better does it feel with the standard wheels fitted?
  20. Valve seals dont need done unless you were blowing oil before. The guy maybe advised that while the head was off to do them but its not necessary. £250 is more realistic.
  21. Im bored at work just now and searched for a similar topic but couldnt find one so please post ONE picture of your previous cars in chronological order. Would like to see how diverse a response we can get. Ill start. Missed out one or two like my 8v and G60 Corrado's. Ive had as many bikes as well TBH.
  22. I totally agree with what your doing, sometimes you do have to move on. I kind of had the same decision about 6 months ago but the fact I have a daily Golf Tdi helped a lot to keep the Corrado. TT's are ok, they were/are popular but I get a feeling it was more to do with their image than thier driving dynamics. In fact a lot of journalists didnt rate the handling etc that high, too boring IIRC. Saying that they are great inside but if it was my choice I would be looking at an S3. Just as "boring" to drive standard, more pratcical and only need a few tweeks for a great daily. I loved my S3.
  23. Well there is another contender however there pretty rare. Anyone know of a set?
