  1. I tried to undo mine with one of those chain ones and it just wasn't going to happen. Combination of not enough space and it being too tight. Borrowed a neighbours plumbers style large pliers in the end just so I could get it done but have since bought a proper 36mm socket off ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-Low-Profile-Oil-Filter-Socket-36mm-3-8-Sq-Drive-SX114-/370930316277?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item565d2b73f5
  2. I just got some 2nd hand Focal components off eBay along with an Alpine amp. Before I saw them I was going to buy some Hertz components which are under £80 delivered. Add some sound deadening to the doors and speaker pods and you will get a much better sound. An amp will also help at louder volumes as headunits alone aren't powerful enough, giving a distorted signal which is what destroys speakers.
  3. My old K reg had 3 as does my L reg. Neither had aircon. Yellow, blue and black, not necessarily in that order though.

    Sound Proofing.....

Another vote for Silentcoat. Even though the boot of mine had already been covered in an unknown type(2mm) I recently add some 4mm silentcoat over the top of it in the boot. It made a huge difference and drastically reduced the drone from the exhaust. If your exhaust isn't too loud you will get away with the 2mm stuff otherwise you will need to either double layer it or buy some 4mm just for the boot area.
  5. No reason you couldn't drain the oil and re use it. I imagine it will be just as easy to do the pump change on the 16v as it is the 8v. Drop the sump. 2 bolts on the pump. Pull out and replace. Simples, at least thats how I remember it being. When fitting the new pump block it with Vasaline and fill with oil from the top before bolting it up. This should guarantee you don't get an airlock on start up. Don't know if the sump on the Valver blocks the O/S front wishbone bolt like they do on the VR's but it may be the perfect opportunity to replace any wishbone bushes that are getting tired whilst you have it apart.
  6. Thinking of changing the H3 bulbs to these. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-OSRAM-H3-HYPER-WHITE-COOL-BLUE-62151CBH-12V-70W-PK22s-H3-TYPE-/310739272714?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item485981040a Would these get too hot or is it likely to be ok being they are only 70w. Don't care that they are not road legal as I am not in the habit of driving at people with my lights on full beam. Just want to compensate for the crappy lights. I have already ordered some H4 Osram night breakers and know all about the uprated loom, but if I can make full beam better with these bulbs I would rather do this.
  7. Yeah great, much nicer having the longer ratios, it isn't screaming its head off on the motorway now. Still need to strip the old box down and get the diff sent back to Peloquin for a rebuild. Luckily I had so much holiday left to take I booked off December  so have plenty of time to do it.
  8. Went on a sound deadening mission yesterday after buying a bulk pack of 4mm silent coat. Did the front doors/door cards to try and improve the stereo a bit. Also added more to the boot that already had some much thinner stuff down and fitted some to the rear seat area. That used up the whole lot but it has made such a difference. The drone from the back box now is much quieter making the car far more pleasurable to drive. Shame it's so heavy but seeing as it's no track car it was the better choice. Probably buy some 2mm stuff just to do the bulk head and floor plan to finish it off as the engine noise is pretty loud.
  9. Looks great mate, and in the best/fastest colour too ;)
  10. I had a mk1 golf that did this. It started as I drove away from buying it. Was fine on the test drive then as I started the car to drive off it started to beep and flash which we assumed was the sender. After about 30 minutes it stopped. Changed the oil pump and sender and it still did it, sometimes for ages, sometimes only a short time. Put it down to the clocks being buggered but I never solved it as the car got written off before I did. Seems like too much of a coincidence that it has only just started doing it after the clock change. Try another known working set if you can first.
  11. After having a search around the only thing I would consider selling this for that I would be happy with is an E46 M3, but that would be the cheap end of the market and potentially bankrupt me if anything went wrong. The other option would be a 330ci M-sport, but with only 228 bhp I would get bored very quickly.
  12. Matt is the only person I trust with my cars and as such have used him for bits and pieces for about 4 years, this being the biggest job I have had him undertake, although he now has someone else working for him who did the majority of the work. He said he had turned down a Corrado in the past so must have been talking about yours. He ain't a massive fan of working on older stuff as every job normally turns into a complete 'mare. Luckily he knows my cars are never nails so is happy enough to work on them.
  13. Got the car back on the road yesterday courtesy of Matt and Jason of Volkscraft. New box feels nice and tight with no gear crunches and the longer ratios make it far more pleasurable to drive. Cheers Andy. Whilst the box was out Matt noticed a split vac hose that went to the fuel pressure regulator so stuck a connector in there. Just been out and the car was peak boosting at......... 24psi :shocked!::shocked!::shocked!::bonk::bonk::suprised::eek::eek: Thinking the split hose must also go to the same connector as the gauge so it wasn't reading accurately and the boost had been turned up. Obviously why the car shat itself. The diff was knackered as I suspected, drives exactly the same on this box as it did the other, so I will get the old box stripped down and the diff out ready to be shipped off to the states to be fixed under its lifetime warranty. My love for the car has returned and it will no longer be sold in the near future.
  14. Saw this in the flesh last weekend when I picked up a gearbox from Andy to fix mine. You have got an absolute beauty there and at a bargain price IMO. Congrats.
  15. Messaged Cazza, think getting it back on the road is the best option to start with. Not even sure the diff was working properly anyway. when up on stands turning 1 wheel would make the other go in the opposite direction. When doing this on my old mk1 with quaife they both went the same way.
  16. 5th went bang, which on it's own is fine, but it is also rattling quite badly, so it is going to have to come off. Was going to take the end plate off today to have a quick look but forgot we are off to Wales to visit the other halves family. Hopefully have a look next week weather allowing but doubt it is going to be fixable in situ.
  17. The change on its own would be fine, it's the £670 on top of that for the rebuild I was quoted by the gearbox centre that makes me not want to bother if I could just sell it instead.
  18. If anyone would be interested in buying this it may be for sale. The 'box sounds rattly so is going to have to come off. Unfortunately I just can't justify the money it will cost to fix as I am unable to do the work myself. The whole situation with the box has left me seriously questioning modified car ownership. Would be a cheap VRT for someone who has the facilities to remove and fix the box themselves. May advertise it properly in a few days for £5300, which for a car of this spec could be a serious bargain for somebody as I must have spent upwards of £700 in the short time I have owned it. Original threads can be found here. http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=34842 http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=49027 The car will come with a spare 02A box that came from a Passat owned by a middle aged man and some MTL redline oil.
  19. Nothing. It could very easily be a dog, actually mint or anywhere in between. A lot of people are liars, deluded, plain stupid or have low standards so it's not worth expecting too much unless it is a well know forum car.
  20. Bonkers fast, arches in need of attention.
  21. Taking the highest reading from all the runs seemed like the worst method to me as it only takes one spurious run to give an inflated figure. Would have been good for them to average the 8. I bet if they removed and cleaned the throttle body and inlet manifold they would have seen over 190bhp. As far as redex is concerned it is supposed to remove deposits from the lines and injectors. And as you you know a better nossle spray pattern from a clean injector will vastly increase atomisation and therefore fuel burn in the cylinders.
  22. Just had the car out for the first time since it happened and there is a rattling noise now when moving and once whislt stationary which I stopped by dipping the clutch. Also the clutch pedal is sticking a bit at the top of its travel after it is fully engaged. So it looks like something else has gone along with 5th and the box is going to have to come off, bad times.
  23. After a few weeks of problem free motoring the car decided to be a twat again. Whilst pulling past someone pretty hard in 5th 2 weekends ago there was a bang then no drive. Initial thought was blown engine but thankfully it was only 5th giving up. Going to pick up a cheap box off Langers shortly so I can swap the necessary cogs over. I expect to find all the teeth missing so may have to fish some bits of metal out of the box with a magnet, but hoping the oil drain will get the worst of it out.
