It's what I call 'lazy' power - completly different to a G60 that feels like a much faster version of a Golf GTI - the VR's are more of a cruiser but is still fast with good power to weight ratio even by todays standards. Deffo agree with that - the amount of VR's I have VAGCOM'd for new or potential owners and found cam sensors down and / or lambda / ignition faults - I think people buy them and they still seem fast to what they have had previously at 160BHP with batch injection. The other problem is as the cars get older people seem to skimp on servicing and independant garages also get confused between the G40 and G28 fault codes etc. Every RR day I've been to at Stealth someone turns up with a 160BHP VR, Vince doesn't even have to plug it in to know what's up with it!

Yeah - plastic MK4 part - it was the MK3 ones that were metal but now superceded

Howcome my Estorils from my Passat VR6 doesn't fit the C?
Supercharged replied to Mawrick's topic in Drivetrain
If it's an early Passat VR then it might be base suspension with 5 stud - they did this for on chassis year... If so you will notice the brake discs are a different offset and I'm guessing the wheels will be ET33 rather than ET43 for Plus suspension -
You've not actually got a TPS mate unless it's a G60 Auto

G60 rear brake caliper replacement - recommendations needed!
Supercharged replied to bristolbaron's topic in Drivetrain
Hi Baz - Are you sure the compensator valve is working ok if both are not up to MOT standards?? Yeah deffo go the MK4 route and buy new as MK4's are getting on a bit now... Paint them red too to match the fronts! You need the calipers and MK4 to MK2 Conversion hoses from Goodridge and that's it - If you ring Goodridge direct it's worth paying a bit extra for fully stainless ones as my 7 year old ones now need replacing because of rust! http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info. ... ts_id=1530 http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info. ... ts_id=1531 -
On a VR though the fuel pump relay is only energised when the ECU receives a signal from the crank sensor... I'd disconnect this and the coil pack / or king lead - as Henny says far easier than removing the fuse box shelf / cover... If you want to remove the fuel pump relay it's the bottom right one as you look at the box.

Is this a mod for deaf people?
-
Yeah that's a Passat Rear handle that's been bodged to work with the original lock mechs rather than the matching passat ones

That was a CCGB national day - they still happen every year! David - cheers for the pics - good shot of mine on BBS RM's at the front of the last photo - loved those wheels but hated cleaning them! LOL - In some ways my car looks more standard now as I've gone back to orange side repeaters and lost the Kamei grill spoiler.

Yep - exactly the same - GSF are muppetts!
-
Yep - was Woburn Abbey in 2003 - really good day that was! Great turnout and superb weather... I remember hitting 145 on the way down chasing Endor71's G60

Exactly, could do with loosing the stickers and gaining some ride height as it must be awful to drive but it looks fairly clean and tidy really!
-
Ah ok - VAGCOM should just work then but for ABS only... maybe try a different or known good laptop / cable? Not sure why 60 is significant but this is always the speed that you know if wheels are not balanced properly.... I'm guessing the rear cages were re-used and slightly distorted and this only becomes an issue at 60mph, check the rear bearings are not too loose either - non-genuine bearings often needs adjustment after fitting.
-
What engine is it? - You need to use an Electro Isolated cable (not optical) and v409.0 or later of VAGCOM with the baud rate set to 4,800 for the 9A only and set this before you interrogate the ECU Your problem sounds like wheel bearings or distorted ABS rings / cages

http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info. ... ts_id=1583 VW Spares are now selling new carriers for the 280mm setup, useful if upgrading from 256 to 280 or if you just want some new ones because of corrosion etc. More than this for just one side from VAG!

The R32 bushes are for the rear wishbones - for the Axle just fit standard VW items. If yours actually look worn then I'm fairly certain that will be your problem
-
I must admit I was tempted by doing this ever since driving the new Scirocco and know that VW did a retro fit kit for older cars... I hear what you're saying above but this is a feature that most new cars have and I think it's easy enough to get used to - me and Jim certainly did in the Rocco.

Speaking to a mate who does MOT's today - he said they have had an unusual amount of cars in the last few weeks failing on bulged / ruptured brake flexi hoses. All makes and models but particularly French cars around 5 - 10 years old he said - one actually burst as it was being driven onto the ramp so very lucky for the owner! He thinks it's mainly stone damage which isn't surprising with the current state of our roads and the harsh winter we have just had. Now the weather is good I would advise everyone to check theirs, just clean any dirt off and run your hand round the hose to check it's not bulged, well worth spraying some WD40 etc on either end too to stop rust build up. VW recommend changing hoses at 7 years old, this seems to be the point at which the ends start to corrode as well making them more difficult to undo.

Yeah, that was only the second time I've done the car and we've owned it for 10 years now - wasn't particularly dirty but just looked a bit dusty /dull
-
Sounds very much like your Radiator fan switch is only working at the second stage, they seem to fail safe like this.

Yep, just used the Turtlewax CD2 Kit - awesome stuff, done 4 cars now with the same kit - need to buy another one now!

5 or so years on from the pic on page 1 and I decided to do the MK3 again this morning... now on 120k miles / 14 years old. Only parts in the engine bay that have been changed other than service items are the coil and the cam cover breather pipe.

The original SS ones looked like a normal cat so hard to tell without looking closely....
-
Could be wheel bearings or distorted ABS cages

K is for Karmann mate.
