  1. Not too mention safety! - There seems to be no regulation or control on parts coming into this county and the quality of GSF stuff nowadays is shocking, I wouldn't even trust the branded stuff now as there are fake Bosch sensors all over eBay etc as it's such a big market.
  2. Quite simply buy the best one you can afford but obviously hold a bit of cash back for anything needing urgent attention. From experience on here it's the people that buy cheap neglected cars that have problems and moan about costs all the time and then get fed up and sell. Low mileage is important but not as much as overall condition - a rust free body and recent service history are key.
  3. Yep, actually the same as MK2 IIRC but you cut slightly to fit the Corrado - around £25 a pair from VW
  4. That pulling must have been a collapsed shock then I reckon?? or did you have it re-alligned? My H&R springs look awful now so you've spurred me on to fit the original MK3 TDI ones I have!
  5. Perfectly normal - hence the topmount bearing.
  6. Not to mention burning your passengers legs or crashing because you can't see with the car full of steam - I'd advise anyone to change it before you get any symptoms, by far one of the most important bits of preventative maintenance you can do... Mine was last done in 2001 (1991 car) so looking at doing it again this summer for peace of mind!
  7. I'd say you might have damaged the ECU but even then the car should crank, you need to check the plug on the starter solenoid for 12V when the key is turned first, if you don't get anything then maybe an alarm issue or you've melted the ignition switch or wiring?
  8. Nah - just use the VW stuff dude as we know it's right and you only need a litre... If you need to bulk up the order what about some gear oil?
  9. The top pic isn't a VR slam but was still probably factory fitted - I think there were various supply issues when the Corrado was being built but the one in the bottom pic is exclusively for the VR as it doesn't have the radiator mounting points for the 4 cyl models.
  10. Oh come on Bill, you must be getting used to it now! - I know there is a lot to get used to but I really think we're getting there, just a few more bugs to iron out and I think we're there, would be really sad to lose people that have been regulars for 5 years! Look at it this way, at least we keep our site online - yet again the Corrado Club site has just disappeared off the internet as it always has every couple of years with no access to membership info / events / AGM etc - Our the uptime is 99.99%
  11. Woke up this morning and found a note, written and signed by me: 'You've got Altheimers, you idiot!' Don't remember writing that.....
  12. 1 - Change / re-seat the ECU relay and check the engine earths. 2 - Get it to VW
  13. Ah yes - a google of his explicit email address gives one result - http://www.stopforumspam.com
  14. I used to love that MK2 smell on a hot day where the amber wax would seep out of the rear panel...
  15. The plug for the original tank will be bridged then and you must have knocked it fitting the chip - should be around the same area. I would find it and also fit an original tank back on - very cheap from VW for a new one.
  16. Looks good and half the price of the 3M or VAG stuff
  17. You've not got a cat! - the 1.8 engines are not managed so no lambda fitted. I can't remember if you get a box or a straight pipe as standard but a cat bypass won't fit as you've not got that 3 hole flange on the downpipe. Any stainless system should give you a bit of extra noise / rasp - keep an eye out for a magnex etc and you could always also fit a straight bit of pipe with it where the cat would be - way cheaper than a bypass pipe.
  18. Bleed it first if it's not been done for a while but I'd look at changing the slave anyway if it's not a new alloy part (unpainted) They only leak noticably when they get to the stage where they're almost undrivable. If you remove the carpet mat does it make it easier? - If so something is not right!
  19. Yeah we know it's an issue - especially all the dating adds etc that keep coming up as they don't look professional when browsing at work. Andi is just trialling this out for a bit to see if it does generate any significant revenue - after that we'll look into removing them for subscribers etc. For now you can use a browser add-in like AdBlock - I've got this installed in Chrome both on the Mac and PC and it works a treat, stops them from being downloaded so the site is lightning fast! We're getting there...
