I wouldn't bother with internal work like that. Waste of money for negligable gains tbh. The 9a cams are very restrictive, so the KR or ABF cams make a real difference, but other than that its not worth doing. You could spend a grand on port matching, polishing, reboring, etc etc for about a 10 bhp difference. If power is what you're after, FI is the way to go hands down.

Iirc, a set of KR or ABF cams in your 9A will see you to about 170bhp on their own too mate.

1.8 20vT from a mk4 Golf, Leon Cupra R, Audi TT/S3 etc, with the K03s or K04 Turbo will see you well. Tons of info as its been done loads already, and with a remap you'll have more than enough power. Loads of these lumps available or even a decent donor car for reasonable money now too.

Yeah the heater box where the matrix lives is just a series of flaps. Sliding direction and heat controls just moves the bowden cables and closes/opens the flaps mate.

Beige leather trimmed A,B,C pillars As title. Look awsome when fitted. All in perfect order although some areas could do with being bonded to the plastic again. Also as pictured, there are a couple of small holes where alarm sensors have been fitted previously. They have been stripped back and re-coloured using the Furniture Clinic restoration kit. The colour was matched to my factory beige leather, of which I sent the headrest to them for matching. This has ensured they matched an area that had no sun bleaching, so should match brilliantly if you have the same coloured upholstery. All I'm after is what I paid for them, and they're now in better order than when I got them. You mean the rear stub axles Rob? If so, check the mating surface to the rear beam first, as it really needs to be perfectly flat so any corrosion could cause the alignment to be out. If you are happy to re-use them, just make sure the corrosion isn't too bad by chipping a bit of it away. If you're in any doubt about its integrity then obviously change them as a matter of course.

No thats correct. The raised bit ensures it makes contact with the steering wheel for the horn.

I just bought a braided earth strap from ebay in exactly the same dimesions for about £2, and put some heat shrink over it. Looks exactly like the stock one but for about 1/10th the price!

Remember that its been going for what, 13 years now? In the first few series', it really was basic maintenance and very easily done by a home DIY mechanic. The show has just evolved as it has become so popular so it has to broaden the work they have been doing using more elaborate ways of achieving things, with more specialist kit to do it. The show wouldn't be so highly rated still if they were still just doing basic servicing, with the occasional bolt off bolt on body panel and a rattle can of paint. The encouragement of a DIY mechanic were at the forefront for the concept of the show, its just shifted slightly now to being about showing a quality classic car, and be entertaining to boot. I personally love the show, and think Mike Brewer is a very decent bloke.

I'm sure we all appreciate your sentiment towards your car Em, but the fact is that the car advertised is pretty far overpriced based on the amount of work required to bring it up to standard, and current market values. We've all been talking about it for a while now, and there has been an slight increase in value of late, which can only be helped by the wheeler dealers episode putting our beloved cars in the public eye even more. There are Storms in both colours quite regularly for sale at reasonable prices, and buyers should hold condition over mileage as things like bodywork have the highest outlay to put right. You could have a top end rebuild, chains et all done, plus clutch, water pump and even radiator for about £1500 including labour. A full body respray would cost twice that, not including all the trim items that would need to be replaced. I'm not trying to shoot you down Em honestly, and you are right, there are some very genuine people - none more so than in my experience the vast majority of Corrado owners. Its the same with many classic or otherwise car owner though, the emotional attachment they have to their car can cloud their judgement, meaning they want the highest price possible for it. Whether the seller is using others to push the price up I couldn't say, I personally don't know anyone who has ever done that to get a sale - does it actually work!!!???

The trouble with LPG Em is that for a return of the outlay, you'd have to do 40 - 50k miles to break even cost wise. Unless you're planning to keep the car for a very long time its simply not worth it.

Its not a 4-5k difference for chains to be done I'm afraid Em. Generally just shy of 1k for genuine parts plus fitting, but it depends which market you are going for. Judging by what you are planning to sell for I'd say its almost a must to have it done, as the top end of the market almost certainly has to be immaculate in every sense. The lower end of the market is where it becomes not so important, and getting the chains done doesn't make economical sense if you're only selling for £2k anyway.

I think it was Nicks thread (although I could be way off), but I remember reading he'd had quite a few scalps of genuine supercars. The only one to show him a clean pair of heals was a (heavily modified) Focus RS.

Welcome to the forum Marty, and good luck with your search. Have a look in the classified section on here too if you're looking for a good example. I can't stress enough how much more an enthusiast owned car of this age is worth over a generic car on a selling site, although there are some good ones that have been cared for by owners that have owned them for a long time out there, but enthusiasts generally tend to ensure maintenance routines are adhered to. Equally, there are some people that like the idea of owning a nice performance car (I suppose it was back in the day), but don't realise the importance of maintaining it. A poor ad doesn't mean its a bad example, but if your instinct tells you to walk away, do it! The key is to shop around for a car that has a good exterior as that is the major expense on these cars. My personal opinion is that if you are looking for performance, go VR6 all day long. A G60 can be tuned to be on par, or even exceed the performance of a VR6, but by doing it you're looking at supercharger rebuilds every 30k miles. IMO, its simply not worth it. You won't be disappointed once a VR6 hits 4k rpm, and the noise kicks in!

When I did mine, they were a pig to remove and replace, but the old seals came out perfectly intact. I think the refirb set you get from Mr Injector come with new seals anyway, but if not they're about £6 each from VW! Just be very gentle when refitting them and use some lube on the seals, as I forced one and broke the brown plastic bit surrounding the jet, which subsequently fell into the head! Luckily my engine was out and on a stand, so I tipped it upside down and it all came out. (It snapped in 2 and was a clean break luckily). I also had a spare set of injectors that I'd ultrasonically cleaned and refirbed myself so I got off relatively lightly.

Haha, you know it makes sense Jamie! As above, too cheap mate. I reckon that in 6 months time you could easily bang a grand on top of that and still get a reasonably quick sale. Hopefully the love returns though, as I'm not sure some of the other options suggested would be a genuine step up in terms of pleasureable ownership after a very short while.

I agree with Chuggs. There seems to have already been a marked increase in sale prices over the last 6-12 months on all used car websites and auction sites. It seems to be getting a fair bit of attention online, in magazines and on TV very recently which I honestly think will help (in our case) push prices up too. Not sure why we are all so desparate to see prices increase mind you, as that'll have a knock on effect for spares too! :bonk:

If you struggle selling the interior as a whole, I'd be very interested in B pillar trims, and parcel shelf in uncut.

If you're only after 100 bhp, then worth considering a supercharger. Again, loads of info on here and if you can do the work yourself, you should be able to pick up all parts for around £1500. That'll add a good 100bhp, but the power delivery is completely different to a turbo. Some like it, some don't.

Nice one Rob, on the home stretch with the car now then? I've got my underside to do which I've said I'll be doing for about a year now too. I will get there early next year though hopefully, but always a step behind you mate!

Aside from the bolster and multiple alarm LEDs in random places, it does look a very tidy car. Bodywork looks fantastic, and the seller has done a very professional job photographing it. There are a couple of low mileage cars on autotrader for half this price though, and 4.5k will go pretty far in sorting a few minor bodywork issues on the others. Think this is very optimistic, but again can't hurt with raising values of our cars to what they should be. I certainly think its started already though. A couple of years ago you could pick up a tidy VR for 3-4k. Prices seem to be at least 4-5k now with some much more, which is encouraging!
