1 pointCan't seem to start a new thread, so will just reply here. Not often the fleet is all together, but took the corrado out for it's last run before SORN for winter. Managed to fit a new water pump and radiator, then noticed the wires had broken on the O2 sensor again, so fixed that as it was running rough. Thought I had cracked it as the mpg was heading back out the teens into the mid twenties, but just as I pulled into the drive it started popping and banging so will need to fault finding again. The joys of classic car ownership!
-
1 pointAs above - just test them with a 9v battery - the one that will be the switching wire that comes from the stalk will be the one that clicks. There is usually a small diagram on the relay as well. The feed will be permanent live from the battery. Check this page out - 86 is switched, 87 to headlights, 30 from battery (+, fused) and 85 to battery (-) https://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/relays/relays.html

1 pointI did the solid column years ago, it does make it feel a lot more positive, The cowls are getting hard to find, early and late “bottoms” are the same, just different part numbers, tops are different due to the hazard light ! Had the car in the body shop last Xmas, new sills, (eBay ones)came galvanised.Fitted really well, rear arches were showing signs of tin worm, so scored a set of second hand arches of eBay, cleaned up like new ! Front wings were not good, couldn’t find a decent set of late wings,so got a set of used “early”wings from a breaker local to me (eBay again) nearly rust free, the metal seems thicker on the earlier wings ! Body shop did a really good job putting it all together, bottom of the car was resprayed ,looks new again, struggling to put pics up at the moment

1 pointNew clutch master and slave fitted + a proper Hunter alignment over the last few days. The car is rejuvenated and useable again: tracks spot on and the clutch issues I had with juddering have gone away. The pedal was also not returning and sometimes the clutch was not fully disengaging. The place I took it to was local, recommneded by a local fellow Corrado owner, I'm really happy with the outcome, they are engineers rather than fitters. The workshop had a mix of old and new 911s, TVR, Fiat X1, Triumph or some sort, GTV6 80s Alfa, Citreon ZM and a Vauxhall Senator. The clutch master I supplied was a LHD version as RHD is obsolete, he made it all work and even refitted it after bleeding it up as the pedal sat too high and engineered a solution to make it sit at the right height. I'm sure many fitters would have just left the pedal and inch too high or worse still refused to work on the car. I asked them to give the car an inspection as I've done quite a bit of work with the axle and it got a clean bill of health. There was a note that the subframe has had a weld repair due to seized bolt in the past, which I knew about and have a replacement already refurbished to go on. It would have made sense to do this time around due to the alignment but I still need to purchase uprated ARBs and Vibra Technic engine mounts... a purchase that will have to happen after Christmas now.

1 pointquick update 9 out of 10 deposits received & loom maker is ordering the parts for all 10 hopefully, work commitments the only caveat, he is aiming to have them ready by end of Nov 🙂
-
1 pointI've not been on here for a while, car was in storage but its back home now and I will get the MOT back on it.
-
1 pointFair play for keeping it all this time. mk3 abf 16v is what they should have put in place of the 2.0 16v 9a unit. Sounds great, keep us updated.

1 pointGood luck Dougie. Mine is booked in end of the month for a proper alignment with rear shims and camberbolts and changing clutch master and slave. Horrible to drive at the moment due to bad alignment.
-
1 pointJust to update on my banjo bolt situation.... After a short hospital stay I finally got a chance to look into getting the old girl sorted and to my surprise when I looked at the smaller of the two banjo bolts, the one I took off the car didnt have the small filter in it, so I presume at some point its been changed and not with an OEM bolt. Given the car ran fine, just going to run on that basis, so ordered a couple of HEL performance stainless steel ones and also ordered a couple of the large bolts from the LLL website, so thanks for those Matt it was very useful. No excuses for me now! Dougie

1 pointVery nice Stu! Really like the white ancilliaries under the bonnet, nice touch on a white car. Dougie

1 pointHi all, i thought it was high time i shared my G60 build with you . This car is now completed so the thread updates aren't in real time so its a copy and paste exercise for the most part but i will try to keep to thread updated in the future . Thanks for reading . Okay so back in 2020 i already had a G60 in black as a project bought on a bit of a whim and which needed quite a bit of work ! Always on the hunt for parts for it i had bought a few random parts off a uk ebay seller , by chance i spotted in one of his pictures the faintest outline of a what looked like a fairly complete car in red. enquired what the story with it and i turned out that this was the car he was breaking the parts for sale off !! Turns out he had owned the car since 2001 and had embarked on a semi refresh of the underside of the car not long after purchasing it ,the usual jobs ,subframe ,rear beam ,wishbones blasted and powdercoated ,new supsension etc. only it seems like he had bitten off more than he could chew ,along with a very small workspace ( see below )it just seemed to have gotten the better of him and he lost interest in it . Years later he starting selling of bits of the car gradually on ebay where i came across him. He was willing to sell off the remains of the car so a deal was done , i bought the whole lot sight unseen ,i was taking a bit of a chance on it but the cost of the new spare parts that came with it alone was worth the asking price.

1 pointStill look in practically every day Still have the G60 but due to go for its winter hibernation Still have various projects ongoing when i have the time which is not a lot at present
-
1 pointSo bringing this thread up to date here is the car as more or less is at present. ITs fully legal now and ended up being only 214 euro VRT due to being over 30 years old .Result!! I've also got these VW Sebring 16" wheels made by Bstar for that oem+ look .Have got around to fitting them as of yet !
-
1 pointI generally like my cars oem or oem plus ,at least visually but one thing i had to improve on was the intercooler setup. The oe system is pretty poor and barely adequate for a standard engine . They mounted the small IC behind the ps bumper in front of the wheel arch and plumbed it up with a convoluted series of narrow bore piping so the chances of lowering the intake temperatures are pretty slim and the number of pipes and joints makes it difficult to have a non leaking setup. I wanted a front mount IC on the car but didn't want to go hacking and chopping bits out of the slam panel and move the battery away to the boot .Frontal space is minimal on these due to the odd position of the rad in relation the slam panel . I ended up steping back the rad off the crossmember on the DS to gain more clearance of an IC . I also got rid of the original rad fan as the motor on there are massive and replaced it with a Spal fan that fitted perfectly on the fan housing . After much trial and error, buying intercoolers the didn't fit properly etc ,mocking up ,making brackets /remaking brackets i ended up with this ! [url= With front slam panel fitted ,very happy with the way it turned out and i didn't have to fettle and of the slam panel with the grinder! (almost lol) i also installed a setrab remote oil cooler with AN fittings and hoses and got rid of the factory water cooled setup . These G60,s run very hot so this is a must have mod .
-
1 pointFront Crossmember built up with powerflex bushes Got a set of H+R ARB,s 23mm front +25mm rear. I had these on a previous mk2 golf gti and loved them ! Fitted on the front The koni dampers and springs came with the car but needed to be built up with new bumpstops and top mounts
-
1 pointSo as I said I already had this complete black G60 ,in fairness it was quite a ropey old thing that needed extensive work in every dept , had at least two poor resprays in its life , got a major repair to the rear quarter at some stage with was also poorly repaired and significant rust had set in , Main engine pulley bolt had loosened and damaged the crank nose and key way so a engine strip down was required , indeed I had already pulled the engine and box and was in the process of rebuilding it when I obtained the red one ..
-
1 pointHi. No problem, better late than never 😉. So this car tinkering time you speak of, do you have enough to share around ? Looking forward to more updates 🫡
-
1 pointWell, a set of RS301’s became available so looks like the corrado won’t be standard for too long.
-
1 pointPlease use 2 x axle stands and wheel chocks for your own safety! Depending on the variation, the filter will either be held on with a round steel loop band with a bolt to tighten it, or a plastic cradle that it sits in, which has fixings on the corners that you need to undo to drop it. The loop band cradle type is often rusted to bits or seized if the filter has not been touched in years. First pic is the combined pump and filter housing, second is the VR6 style filter.

1 pointYou'll likely be fine with the Lucas as the part no is the right one. It's a good brand too. Do you know if your car has a pierburg or vdo pump currently? Mine is an early '94 car and had pierberg so on replacing with a vdo pump i had to buy the vdo sender as well as the pierburg one is different.. https://www.volkswagen-classic-parts.com/catalog/en_uk/part/535919673C?epis=&ct=3&q=535919673C

1 pointHa- "Stark Industries"! They must be having a laugh, or else it's a play on the German, "stark" meaning "strong", or in slang cool/sound/great.

1 pointGetting close, so well done. And change the brakes later, just get it out and enjoy it. It owes you 👌

1 pointManaged to get the car out and brave a 30 mile motorway journey to work. The car never missed a beat, sitting at about 90° water and 106° oil. Mpg wasnt to bad as i took it steady. . At some point I added the one touch indicator relay which is a godsend for changing lanes. Also fitting the heated seat elements from Classic parts made my journey lovely and toasties. No knocking noises from all of the bloody pot holes either which is nice. The car seems to be behaving

1 pointhappy to report that after 14 months the VR6 is finally back home with essentially a brand new underside & nut & bolt restoration plus the Autostrada Modena's are on & looking mighty fine if i do say so myself lol pity you cant see any of the work that has just cost me a small fortune (over double what i had guessed at) but the first few journeys out have made me realise quite how much i had missed this car! the ride is sublime & the refreshed KW's feel great & the noise - nothing quite like it spent most of the weekend cleaning & resinstalling the interior, only sub & door cards left a quick pic from a gloomy drive today

1 pointFYI, I used the Loctite rear view mirror bonder on my campervan and have had no issues. The key is to spend time prepping / degreasing the mount / screen, follow the instructions and wait as long as possible before installing the rear view mirror to the mount.
-
1 pointCheers Kippy, in your expert opinion, am I over restoring the car should I ever decide to enter it at somewhere like Stanford?

1 pointBe sure to follow the Bentley when setting the CoPot and things of that nature. Only reason I say this is because, I had played with my CoPot at one point (set it to 500ohm because it was in the thousands for whatever reason. I am almost positive one of the previous owners set it that high but I am unsure) and mine did not run very well. My AFR was way off. So just be sure to follow the Bentley when it comes to setting that mixture up. If you don't have one, I recommend getting an AFR gauge as this will make it easier to set the CoPot when adjusting everything. If you need help with it at all, feel free to PM me here or on the Vortex as well (same username on there).

1 pointWent for the 205/45/16s and I think worked out well , driving good no rubbing … thanks for the help guys 👍 including pic … it’s a bit dirty out there with the frost

1 pointI have about 20 left new lenses for RHD headlights. I would like to exchange 1 piece new for 2 used right. If anyone is interested please PM me. Greetings Chris

1 pointThe VDOs are bloody expensive though. Hopefully you get the correct one - the problem is that a lot of sites just list the one pump as a generic replacement without mentioning the pressure. I'm not really sure what the impact would be of running a 3 bar pump on a 2.9, as long as you had a matching FPR - but it might throw out the ECU map as it would have been tuned to 4 bar pressure.

1 pointbeen really slack on the corrado lately , picked up a boot lid to refurb over the winter and almost lost the will with sanding them damn alloys! got a few done and looks pretty damn good! still need to finish them off but im in no rush, in the mean time iv had an itch for a mk4 golf v6 4motion for ages and finally brought one last weekend, already getting stuck in and getting the crap done out the way! have a couple of electrical issues to sort which is lighting up the traction control light despite that there lovely to drive! very smooth and quiet, with the standard exhaust upon start up you can hear the VR pur and accelerating its just a refined quiet vr noise but very subtle!
